The Events of Paris Chapter XXIV The Strange Book
"Huh? What is this?"
Bella finds a book with no name written on it.
From the spine, it looks like it's been a few years old, but it doesn't look like the handwriting has been worn out, and it doesn't look like a recently repaired cover.
She carefully pulled the book off the shelf.
There is no dust on the top of the book, and nothing is written on the cover.
But from the side of the book, the paper is already a little yellowed.
In other words, this is a book that has been around for some years.
Bella flipped open the cover, and there was a note sandwiched between the title pages, on which the words "Sainte Jeanne de France" were written in floral French.
It doesn't look like it was printed, it should have been written by someone, and it was with a former quill pen.
I continued to flip through it, but found that the papers inside were all blank.
From beginning to end, there wasn't a single word in the book—if not counting the note on the title page.
There is no title, no author and no publication notes, let alone payment or pricing.
What a strange book.
"Excuse me, what kind of book is this?" Bella asked Monsieur Pierre.
"Which one?" Pierre heard the words and walked over.
"That's it." Bella said, handing the book over.
Pierre took the book, looked at the cover, and flipped through the contents.
"This ...... I don't think I've seen this book before." Pierre replied, "Is it on a shelf?"
"yes." Bella said, "It's on the third floor of the shelf over here, just enough to get to."
"That's weird......," Pierre muttered to himself.
"What's wrong?" Elena also came over. "Huh, what is this?"
"It seems like a strange book," Bella said, "and it's all blank."
"Oh?" Elena seemed to be suddenly interested, "Let me see!"
As she spoke, she took the book from Monsieur Pierre's hand.
I flipped through it twice and found that it was full of blank paper.
She picked up one of the pages again, looked at the light that came in through the window, and found nothing.
"Interesting...... Elena said with interest, "could this be someone's prank?"
"I don't think so." "Looking at the material of the book, it doesn't look like it was made on an impromptu basis. Paper like this is so old that it takes at least a hundred years to get to be in this state."
"In other words, it's been around for a long time, right?" Elena asked.
"Exactly." Pierre nodded.
"But there's not a word on it, huh?"
"It's not like there isn't a word."
Bella said, showing Elena the note she had just taken from the title page.
"Is this ...... 'Saint Jeanne of France'? What do you mean?" Elena asked, puzzled.
"That's what it means." Bella said.
"No, I understand the literal meaning. But why is there such a note?"
"Well...... Bella thought for a moment, then said, "Maybe it's someone who wants this book to be discovered."
"But who would do that?"
"Then I don't know." Bella said.
How could I possibly know everything?
"What clues does Monsieur Pierre have?" Elena asked Pierre again.
He's the librarian here, so he should know something.
"Ugh...... I'm sorry, but I don't know." "To be honest, I didn't know this book existed until today. When I was sorting through the bookshelves before, I didn't find it."
"Could it be that someone quietly put it in after you sorted out the bookshelves?" Elena guessed.
"Well...... "Well," said Pierre, after a moment's thought, "I am here almost during the day, and I should close the doors and windows when I leave at night. However, if you want to sneak in while I'm not at night, there must be some way to sneak in."
"How many keys are there?" Bella asked.
"I've got one here, and then the curator has one." Pierre replied.
"It can't be the curator, right?" Elena said.
"I don't think the curator is the kind of person who likes to play pranks." "But if there's a particular purpose, it's hard to say."
However, Bella was more curious about the existence of the book itself than about how to get into the library.
Why is there a blank book?
Who made it? What is the purpose? Is it just that it didn't come to print? Or is it really someone's prank?
Just then, a man's voice came from the door.
"Is Pierre there?" The voice of an adult man.
"Excuse me."
Pierre said, handing the book back to Bella, and then walked towards the front desk at the entrance.
Bella tucked the note back into the book, then put the book back in its place, and went with Elena.
It was Professor Pascal, and next to him was Officer Christopher.
"What's the matter, teacher?" Pierre bowed respectfully and asked politely.
"Help me find a book about ghosts." Professor Pascal said.
"Okay, wait a minute." With that, Pierre turned and left.
"Professor Pascal, long time no see!" Elena greeted him warmly.
"Ah, it's Miss Medici, and Miss Carlos." Professor Pascal bowed slightly and said, "Last time, thanks to the care of a few people, I found the silk handkerchief lost by my sister, and I haven't had time to thank you."
"You're so polite."
Elena and Bella also simply returned the salute.
"Suzanne has always wanted to come back to Paris, and she told me that I must introduce you to you next time."
"Then when she comes, let's go to Madame Roland's salon together."
"No problem, I'll take her myself." Professor Pascal said with a smile.
"Oh, by the way, why is Officer Christopher free to read today?"
Elena noticed Christopher next to Pascal.
"Hey, you're kidding, how can I have that spare time?" Officer Christopher said regretfully.
"Huh? So ...... you're here?"
It can't be another case, right?
"Truth be told, there was a paranormal incident in the park yesterday." Christopher explained, "Our police station has received a report from a resident that there is a ghost in the woods in the park."
"Ghosts!" Elena immediately showed an expression of surprise and joy at the same time, "Tell me about it! Tell me about it! What the hell is going on?"
