155 Mountain Temple

As soon as he said this, the four of us were stupefied.

Bai Daoist folded his hands and said to himself: "Many years ago, a family gave birth to a child. ”。

For easy paraphrasing, the next is the words of the white Taoist.

He said that many years ago, a rural family gave birth to a child, and he can't remember how long it has been since now.

That child's name is Bai Yujing, that is, the heavenly Bai Yujing, the Bai Yujing of the five cities on the twelfth floor.

As he spoke, Bai Daoist also memorized the poem.

White Yujing in the sky, five cities on the twelfth floor.

The immortals caressed my top, and my hair was immortalized.

Mistakenly chasing the happiness of the world, quite poor and chaotic.

Ninety-six Holy Monarchs, floating clouds hang empty names.

………………

The poem is very long, so it won't hang here.

Let's look at the first four sentences, whether they look very much like those written by immortals.

Of course, Li Bai was originally an immortal.

In fact, there are two explanations for Bai Yujing, one is the moon, which is the same as Bai Yu, and the other is the Shangjing of Bai Yu's building.

Personally, I prefer the first option.

Bai Daoist said that the family named the child Bai Yujing.

Probably because he wants to be as white and flawless as the moon when he grows up, or maybe he wants him to be in a high position and go straight to Beijing.

But the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment, Bai Yujing can't speak until he is five years old, and his family treats him as dumb.

Although he is handsome, being dumb is a disability, which makes the Bai family very unhappy to see this child.

Bai Yujing likes to read, especially Taoist culture and strange writing, and prefers to read Wei Caotang's notes to talk about strange things.

But the family didn't want to see him, refused to send him to school, and kept him as a cattle herding baby, so two years later, Bai Yujing was seven years old.

I still can't speak, because it coincides with the bad harvest of the year, the crops are not harvested, and all kinds of harsh taxes and miscellaneous taxes have to be paid, and the peasants simply cannot afford such expensive taxes.

But the order of the imperial court came down, and if you don't pay it, you have to pay it.

Later, someone came up with the idea of going to the mountains behind the village to get some medicinal herbs and game, and then get over the current difficulty.

As soon as I said this, some people immediately objected, because the back mountain is a forbidden place, and the mountain god does not allow the villagers to enter.

Feudal society attaches great importance to the theory of gods and ghosts.

At this time, there was a wandering monk who came from afar, and gave the villagers an idea, saying that if two boys and girls were to sacrifice to the mountain god, the mountain god would let them in.

Mountain god worship was popular in ancient times and has now largely been abolished, except for some remote areas and ethnic minorities.

In the eyes of the Chinese ancestors, it has great charm and incomprehensible mystery.

Mountains are not as high as the sky, nor are they as familiar as the ground beneath their feet.

The mountain is towering into the clouds and stretches for dozens of miles, the mountains are endless, the clouds and mountains are covered with fog, the mountainside is full of smoke, the mountains and forests are blocked, the grass at the foot of the mountain is deep and the spring flows, the tiger roars and the ape cries, the wolf and insects are infested, the forest covers the sun, and it is difficult to distinguish things. This fear made the Chinese ancestors realize that there was an authority to control the mountain, which was a series of mountain gods.

As much authority as the mountain god has, people have more demand for it, and thus how many kinds of sacrifices to the mountain god have been generated. The mountain god almost encompasses all kinds of people's needs, and a passage in "Han Poems Gaiden" can represent the views of the ancient ancestors: "Those who are husband of the mountain are also admired by all the people." Plants and trees grow, all things are planted, birds gather, animals rest, and the four directions are taken together. Out of the wind and clouds to connect between heaven and earth, heaven and earth to become, the country to peace. The importance of mountains can be seen from this passage.

People can't get rid of the interaction with the mountains, but the mountains are so terrifying.

The mountains are deep and dense, covering the sky and the sun, poisonous insects and beasts, hurting people at every turn, entering the mountains is like entering the tiger's den.

The tall trees and lush grass on the mountain are the hair of the mountain god.

If you cut down trees arbitrarily, you are harming the mountain god, and you can only cut them with the permission of the mountain god, otherwise you will be punished by the mountain god.

There is a story in "Zuo Biography", in the sixteenth year of Zhaogong, Zheng Guo was in a great drought, and he sent Tu Shu, Zhu Yuan, and Jian Qi to sacrifice to Sangshan. The three of them cut down trees on the mountain, causing a great drought.

The ministers of Zheng Guo's ruling government, Zichan, said that the sacrifice to the mountain gods should cultivate and protect the mountains and forests, but now they cut down the trees on the mountains, and their sins were great, so they were removed from the official positions and fiefs of slaughter, congratulations, and Jianqi.

It is said that Qin Shi Huang wanted to go up Mount Tai, but he refused to walk, and wanted to drive out of the mountain so that he could ride comfortably to the top of the mountain.

At that time, it was suggested that the earth, rocks, grass and trees belonged to the mountain god and could not be destroyed, and that the wheels should be wrapped in pu before climbing the mountain to avoid the wrath of the gods.

But the first emperor was so used to it that he didn't listen to this at all, and he didn't intend to sacrifice or wrap the wheels and brazenly climbed the mountain, only to be hit by a torrential rain on the mountainside.

From this story, we can know that the grass and trees belong to the mountain gods and cannot be destroyed. But what about building a house that requires cutting down trees and burning forests to clear the wasteland, and people living in the mountains need to collect fruits, vegetables, and herbs? As a result, the folk customs and rules of sacrificing to the mountain god first and then entering the mountain were formed.

In ancient times, all villages that were close to the mountains had mountain temples at the foot of the mountains.

When you go into the mountains to cut wood and collect medicine, you have to sacrifice to the mountain gods.

Before entering the mountain, you must fast for 50 days, and sacrifice a white dog, a white chicken, and a liter of white salt as sacrifices to the mountain god to win the favor of the mountain god.

When it is time to enter the mountain, the people who enter the mountain should shout "Lin Lin Yangyang".

Lin Lin Yang Yang is the name of the mountain god, and all kinds of evil spirits will avoid it when they hear the name of the mountain god.

The northeastern province of JL is a famous gold mining area, which has been developed since the early Qing Dynasty, and it is clearly stipulated that the mountain god must be worshiped before entering the mountain.

Deep in the mountains and dense forests, there are wooden shrines built wherever gold has been panned.

This small mountain temple made of wood is dedicated to the gods of the mountain, the earth and other gods.

In the early spring, when geese fly north and the glacier freezes, the gold diggers must go to the mountain temple to kill pigs as sacrifices, burn incense and drink wine, and recite prayers for peace and a good harvest before they start work.

As for those who deal with the mountain, such as logging and ginseng picking, this set of rituals to worship the mountain god is also indispensable.

Worship to mountain gods is also related to hunting and animal husbandry.

The beasts in the mountains inhabit and grow, and they are also subordinates of the mountain gods, and even interact with the mountain gods in terms of image. The Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Classic of the Five Tibetan Mountains records more than 400 mountain gods, and the images of mountain gods are associated with tigers, leopards, wild boars, and bison.

So much so that people directly take the king of beasts "Tiger" as the image of the mountain god.

Ferocious beasts roam the forests and infest villages, threatening not only hunting, but also destroying crops, eating domestic cattle and sheep and even threatening passers-by.

Therefore, people worship the mountain god in the hope that the mountain god will control the fierce beasts and birds of prey, keep the safety of the people entering the mountain and the passers-by, and protect the tranquility of the village. At the same time, it is also hoped that the mountain god will release some wild beasts so that people can hunt for a good harvest.

In the concept of ancient people, the mountain god also managed the wind and rain.

Because many rivers originate in the mountains, the ancient people believed that the mountain gods also had the function of rainfall.

Isn't even the source of the Mother River at the top of the mountain?

In ancient times, the Manchus in the Northeast were not allowed to shout and whistle after entering the mountain, otherwise not only would the purpose of entering the mountain be difficult to achieve, but they would also get lost and invite a storm.

With this realization, people turned to mountain gods for more than just gathering and hunting in the mountains.

Farming production is the most inseparable from rain, in ancient times there was a tragic record of the drought, when the ten suns came out together, the grass and trees were all scorched.

When the soup was made, there was a great drought for seven consecutive years, and even the stones were sunburned.

Frequent droughts have made it the greatest need for rain in all sacrifices, and people have been praying to various gods for rain to relieve droughts, and mountain gods are also one of them.

Originally, it was almost enough to sacrifice three animals to worship the mountain gods, and then get some fresh fruits and vegetables.

This crazy monk didn't know if it was intentional or not, he actually let the villagers sacrifice with boys and girls, don't think about it, Bai Yujing is a dumb person, this kind of good thing must be him.

The villagers were so stupid that they listened to the monk's words and agreed to sacrifice Bai Yujing and another lame girl to the mountain god, including Bai Yujing's family.

They didn't want to keep a waste at home, and two seven or eight-year-old children were tied up and thrown into the mountain temple.

After the sacrifice was completed, it didn't take long for the villagers to start entering the mountain, and this time they did it without any problems, picking many herbs and hunting many wild beasts.

It's just that no one cares whether the two children are dead or alive, maybe they were eaten by the mountain god.

Many years later, Bai Yujing became the god of the mountain.

"The warrior who slays the dragon has become an evil dragon?" I thought of some jokes I saw on the Internet and blurted them out.
