Chapter 6 Neighborhood Folks

There are a total of ten bungalows in Qingnian Tang, and the east and west ear rooms are relatively longer, and the other ones are the same width and narrowness.

The easternmost one lives my father's single family, and there are two rooms for a family of six people surnamed Wang, and then there are two rooms for the "eldest sister" family of seven, and after the empty one, it is our family of six.

The empty room in the middle and the two rooms on the west side belong to the kiln front team and the hermitage front team of the Qingshu Brigade, these two teams are on the top of the mountain, among which the front team of the hermitage is the closest to the top of the mountain, and there were nuns on it who used the courtyard as a hermitage, so it is called the front of the hermitage.

Later, in the open space west of Qingnian Pond, a warehouse was rammed with loess, and the empty space between the warehouse and the young man's bungalow was added with horizontal dyeing and tiles, and a bamboo fence was built to isolate it, and it became their temporary kitchen.

My father's single family left a very deep impression on me, because he was ingenious and versatile, carpenter, carpenter, paint, there was no work, he couldn't, and the most important thing was that he could play erhu.

According to the family lineage, he was a generation higher than my father, so my father asked me to call him "uncle".

When I arrived at Qingnian Tang, I was already six or seven years old, and it was the status of the child king, and I was deeply loved by him, and once made me a pistol out of wood, which was delicately carved and realistic, and painted bright red.

This pistol added to the majesty of my child king, and he never left his side, but it was too playful and too enviable. Once when I was playing with my friends on the beach by the river, I lost it inexplicably, and it is estimated that my friends have never found it because they like to hide, so they have been lost for a long time.

"Uncle" just made this one for me, because it takes effort, time, and paint, and it is not easy to make. Later, my father also used a saw to make a wooden pistol, which was so rough that it could not be compared with what his "uncle" made. I never got a better toy than this pistol, one of the most memorable memories of my childhood.

The versatile "uncle", so he is deeply liked by his friends, and what we like even more is the erhu he pulls, and on a quiet summer evening, a song of erhu makes us so obsessed and so intoxicated. In fact, when he lived on the stage of the nunnery, he also pulled it, but he was too young to be impressed.

When I was a child, I rarely saw musical instruments, and the flutes, erhus, trumpets, gongs, drums, etc., which were common in the mountains, were not in the comprehensive team. Every time I hear the erhu sound of "uncle", I am deeply attracted by it, and it turns out that the music is so charming.

However, the "uncle" did not stay long before leaving, only about two or three years, and soon after he left, another lonely man of the captain of the team moved into his room.

His ingenuity and versatility eventually broke up the Wang family next door to him and left with the mistress of the Wang family. The "uncle" was criticized by others for his actions, and when I was still young, I thought that this was a "bad person".

The family that was broken up by the "uncle", the male owner immigrated from Hunan, and was particularly honest, in the logging work organized by the brigade, he was once smashed off his feet, one foot could not be bent, and one foot should be short, which was already miserable, and his wife left, which was even more miserable.

I never saw him quarrel with others, he was silent, he rarely spoke, as long as he saw him, he was lame and worked silently, although he was disabled, he could do any job, and he was tenacious.

They have four children, about the same age as our sisters, the eldest being two daughters and the younger two sons. The eldest is three or four years older than my sister, the second is the same age as me, and the two boys are the same age as the eldest sister and the younger sister.

The eldest daughter was particularly capable, at most twelve or thirteen years old, and from then on she assumed the role of mother, not only taking care of her disabled father, but also bringing up a younger sister and two younger brothers, and in such difficult circumstances, the youngest brother was admitted to the teacher training and later became a teacher.

There is a saying in the countryside, "the gentleman and the girl who will give birth to cubs, and the one who can play shoes will be the first to lay the bottom", the three families in the youth pond, the first to be born are all women, these three women are also just as good, they endure hardship, they are hard-working, even if they are hard, they will not be tired, even if it is difficult, they will not be aggrieved.

Especially the eldest daughter of the Wang family, even if her father is disabled and her mother runs away, she has never seen her complain, nor has she sighed, nor has she given up on herself, her immature shoulders have carried a family, and she has written a bitter history with the years, as for how bitter it is, maybe only she knows.

She should have been married very early, probably not yet eighteen years old, life is too hard, too lonely and helpless, get married early, seek support early. Her husband is indeed good, a native of Huibu Village, where the commune is located, and he has been seen many times to help with the work, and he is quite honest and honest.

The most impressive thing is that she cares about the study of her younger siblings, the youngest brother has very good grades, she does not even let him do housework, but asks him to study seriously. She is also very demanding of her younger siblings, because my father is the principal, if you want to play, you can only play with us sisters, in her words, it is to play with the good and learn from the good.

After I had a serious illness, my position as the king of children was challenged, and the other friends played with the children next door, and her younger brother followed. At this time, I saw her strong side, and beat this younger brother to my side with a little bamboo.

When I was a child, the title of the elder can very well show that the relationship between the mountain people is simple, the neighborhood is deep, and the male elders often add names and honorific titles, such as "Uncle Wang", "Uncle Chang", "Uncle Duncai", "Father-in-law Shizhai", "Uncle Xiao Xie".

The names of female elders, because of their mothers, some are quite close, such as "Jiafeng Mother" and "Yiying Mother". Some are unfamiliar, such as "Little Aunt Xie", "Aunt XX", and "Aunt XX".

In the years after the field was divided, the children grew up, and the nunnery became smaller and smaller, and it was indeed dilapidated, and when they had some savings, the other five families in the nunnery moved down Phoenix Mountain one after another.

The Phoenix Mountain team did not have its own homestead, and under the coordination of the brigade, five families surnamed Xie from Hubei, Liu from Anyi County, Wen from Hongxiang, Chang from Jiangsu, and Zhao from Gao'an County built new homes in Shixiang Team.

When the conditions are better and the family is more solid, they will build brick houses, and those who are worse will build adobe houses, and those who are worse will build adobe houses.

The adobe house is fixed with splint and compacted layer by layer of loess, which is a traditional construction method in mountainous areas. Using the strong stickiness of loess, bamboo straw is added in the middle, which is stronger than a brick house, and can still be seen in the mountains today.

Not long after moving to Qingnian Pond, my family built one of these adobe houses in front of a row of bungalows. The house is divided into two halves, one half is used as a living room, and the farm tools are also used to store rice. Half of it is used as a room, with two bunks in the front and back, and a family of six sleeps.

In today's parlance, it can probably be called "two bedrooms and one living room", warm in winter and cool in summer, wind and rain. There is also a pavilion on it, with beams made of wood and a layer of wooden planks, which are used to store all kinds of miscellaneous items that are afraid of moisture, such as my father's chest full of books, and all kinds of dry products made by my mother, which are scattered and all kinds of things, and fill the first floor of the pavilion.

When we are about to enter the age of growth and development, we can no longer squeeze into one bed, and our parents have added half of it next to it, the same size as the other two, but it is not made of loess, but made of adobe bricks.

The loess is clayey, relatively strong, but also relatively exquisite, to find the right soil in the mountains, completely rely on manpower to dig out, and to use manpower to pick back, with the house heightened, but also to hang up, relatively time-consuming and laborious, to build particularly hard.

The use of adobe bricks is different, taken from the gray-black soil in the field, selected soft and sticky, with a mold to make square bricks, after drying, can be used as bricks. Relatively speaking, the firmness is poor, and it is not as good as the loess, but it is convenient to build, and it is relatively time-saving and labor-saving.

The brick house is of course the best, combining the advantages of both, it is light and labor-saving when built, and the solidity is not much worse than that of an adobe house, and the boxy bricks add to the beauty and look better.

Three ways of construction, since ancient times, each has its own needs are different, the people in the mountains, take the loess is the most convenient, generally the adobe house rammed into loess, only to the foot of the mountain below, to see different architectural styles.

The Baolian Courtyard on the top of Yue Mountain is made of loess, and the nunnery on Phoenix Mountain is built of blue bricks.

After the villagers moved out, the Phoenix Mountain gradually became barren and no longer inhabited, and the nunnery eventually collapsed because no one repaired it. The bricks and stones of the nunnery were also used by the villagers to build enclosures and moved away little by little, and in the end, only broken bricks and tiles remained, hidden in deep weeds.
