However, it is a pity that Ci'an did not give birth to a son and a half daughter for Xianfeng, so after Xianfeng died, he could only let Cixi's son ascend the throne. After Ci'an and Cixi listened to the government together, although they were both the queen mother, Ci'an's status and treatment were higher than Cixi's, which also made Cixi have always been suppressed by Ci'an, but unfortunately died in the palace in the end, and the cause of death has become an unsolved mystery.

Ci'an and Cixi are called the Empress Dowager of the East and the West, and there are three theories about the death of the Empress Dowager Ci'an, one is to die of illness, the other is to commit suicide by swallowing a snuffbox, and the third is to be poisoned by Cixi. At present, the official version of the Qing Dynasty is that he died of illness, but the relationship between Cixi and the Empress Dowager of Ci'an and Ci'an also made Ci'an's death a layer of mystery.

In the official history of the Qing Dynasty, it was explained that the Empress Dowager Ci'an was infected and died, but the process of Ci'an's infection was full of many points. In the edict left by Ci'an, it was written that he contracted a slight scabies on the ninth day of the third lunar month in 1881, which means a minor illness, and as a result, his condition suddenly worsened on the tenth day of the lunar calendar.

There is another theory about Ci'an's death that is also more controversial. Ci'an and Cixi's two empress dowagers listened to the government together, and the relationship between the two was inseparable. Ci'an has a wooden personality and is not as power-hungry as Cixi. As a result, for a period of time, Ci'an intervened in some court affairs, which caused Cixi's displeasure. She questioned Ci'an fiercely, but Ci'an couldn't tell her, and in a fit of anger, she swallowed a snuffbox and committed suicide.

Ci'an was in stark contrast to Cixi, a virtuous and good empress, so people bemoaned her collapse and doubted her death. The Empress Dowager of the East was 45 years old at the time, and the Empress Dowager Cixi was two years old, "the body is called strong", and the Empress Dowager Cixi was sick and lying in bed at that time. So when they heard the bad news, many courtiers thought that "something was wrong in the west", and they were shocked when they learned the result. Many officials were suddenly puzzled, especially Zuo Zongtang, who immediately shouted that there were ghosts. Weng Tonghe's "Weng Wengong Gong Diary" recorded: "Yesterday (the tenth day of the first month) all five directions were there, and in the morning Tianma, gall stars, according to the clouds, epilepsy was very serious. At noon, there was no medicine, Yunxing's brain was chaotic, and his teeth were tight. Although the two parties can be poured without carving, it is not appropriate; There is already enuresis, and the phlegm and breath are as closed as before. The heavenly veins of the unit will be taken off, the medicine cannot be used, and the immortals will pass away...... Woohoo!" Isn't it "strange" that he went from onset to death in just 12 hours?

It is said that the Empress Dowager Ci'an also looked at the court on the day of her violent death.

At that time, Yi Xin, the minister of the cardinal government, Zuo Zongtang, a scholar, Wang Wenshao, a scholar, and Li Hongzao, a co-organizer of the university, visited Ci'an, and they all saw that Ci'an's face was not sick, only his cheeks were slightly red, as if he was drunk, and there was nothing special. In the afternoon, the ministers of the military plane retreated, and the inner court suddenly heard that the Empress Dowager Xiaozhen had died, and ordered the people of the cardinal to quickly enter the discussion, and the ministers were shocked. Because in the past, when the emperor and queen were sick, they always passed on the imperial medicine under the inspection of the military aircraft. And this time the news of the death of the Queen Mother was suddenly reported, which is indeed very strange. When the ministers entered the Ci'an Palace, they saw Cixi sitting on a low chair, looking at Ci'an's small funeral, and said very calmly: "The Empress Dowager Dong has always been healthy, how could she die suddenly?" When he sobbed slightly, all the ministers were comforted, and they didn't dare to ask about his symptoms. In the end, the funeral was hastily completed.
