Chapter 25: Playing (Part II)
Today is the second day of the tour, and the walking attractions are San Francisco Chinatown, San Francisco Dangdang, Golden Star Vietnamese Restaurany, Fisherman's Wharf, and Pier 39.
We set off early, and on the way Yunfan told me about the origin of San Francisco's Chinatown.
San Francisco's Chinatown is the largest place in the western United States that can be compared with New York's Chinatown, with the intersection of Tuban Street and California Street as its center, and Chinatown is formed by Bush Street, Powell Street, Broadway, and Kearney Street. There are about 100,000 overseas Chinese living here. What is written and listened to here is in Chinese, and what you see is very traditional Chinese style, just like a little China. Chinatown has everything from groceries to precious jewelry, as well as traditional dining and architecture, so visitors can enjoy the colorful Chinese culture.
Good places to visit in Chinatown are the Tin Hau Temple, San Francisco Good Luck Biscuit Factory, Portsmouth Plaza, etc. Portsmouth Square, which began in 1839 as a public gathering place in the town of Yerba Buena, has now become a gathering place for Chinese, where you can see people practicing Tai Chi in the morning and playing cards and mahjong in the evening. The most striking feature of Chinatown is the Chinatown Gate on Grant Avenue. It was designed by Clayton Lee and built in 1970 with materials donated by the Taiwan Provincial and Chinatown Cultural Development Councils. Beyond that, the Chinatown alley between Grant Avenue and Stockton Street is home to many traditional shops, restaurants and old houses. Chinatown is still lively until around 10 p.m. and is safer than other areas. From there, a short walk north is Broadway, the best nightlife area in San Francisco.
There are about 100,000 overseas Chinese living here, and there is a colorful Chinese culture everywhere, and everything that is written and listened to is in Chinese, and what you see is very traditional Chinese style. Chinatown has everything from groceries to precious jewelry, as well as traditional dining and architecture such as the Tin Hau Temple. It's a place like no other, like a little China. Chinatown occupies 16 blocks and has 100,000 Chinese residents, and the best way to get around is from the Tianxia Archway where Tuban Street and Bush Street meet, first passing the historic St. Mary's Church.
The entrance to Chinatown is at the southern end of Duban Street on Bush Street, and the gate is covered with green tiles, and several vivid dragons have a very Chinese flavor. Grant Street is the main street in the community, densely packed with shops, restaurants, and colorful facades that attract tourists and citizens alike. The Chinese Cultural Center hosts a variety of exhibitions of Chinese Americans, as well as a Chinatown History Tour and a Chinatown Food Tour. The Chinese Historical Club tells the story of Chinatown and the difficult years of Chinese people in the United States, and various documents testify to the Chinese community's contribution to San Francisco's history. The most interesting neighborhood in Chinatown is Waverly Place. Many of the buildings here were donated by Chinese charities. Ross Lane is a typical example of the narrow alleys hidden deep in the block, and the smell of desserts wafts from the alley from time to time. The Pacific Heritage Museum is also worth seeing.
Nothing makes one understand the intricacies of Chinatown more than the story of the Chinatown Telephone Exchange. The exchange desk is subordinate to the Bank of Guangdong. Built in 1909 as a pagoda top, the building housed a unique foreign-language telephone exchange, which was closed in 1949 when the impersonal world of automation arrived. The Chinese Cultural Center at Holiday Inn hosts exhibits related to the ethnic heritage of Chinese Americans. It also arranges historical and food tours of Chinatown, so if you want to get a thorough understanding of Chinatown, you should visit here.
If you're in the mood, you might as well have a fun time competing with Chinatowns you've been to. The history of the Chinese has always been based on pathos, with suffering as the pillar, to create a place to settle down, and you can see, hear, and eat the hard work and dedication in Chinatown.
After listening to his explanation, I realized that the history of China has been passed down for a long time, and I couldn't be happier when I looked at the Chinatown in front of me. I entered the world of Chinatown without stopping in the car, and wanted to experience for myself how Chinatowns are different abroad.
Looking at the scenery in front of me really attracted me, pulling Yunfan to look east and west. Seeing the variety of things in it, I couldn't help but want to buy something.
"Brother Yunfan, do you think that's fun?" Pointing to the gadget, he said.
"Well, do you like it? If you like it, buy it. Said softly.
"Let's take a look! There's going to be fun in the back, so let's go inside!" Pulling him along, he said.
At this time, my phone rang again, and I looked at it and it showed that it was my mother. I was hesitant to take it, what would I say if I did, especially since he was right next to me.
Yun Fan saw that I was hesitating and asked me, "Why don't you answer the phone!" Don't worry your family. I'm going to buy you something to eat, don't wait for me here. ”
"Okay, there you go!" He nodded and said.
I saw that he had already walked away before I answered my mother's call and said, "Mom, what's the matter?"
"I said Tingting, what do you think? How did this matter be decided without consulting the family, it was too reckless, and I didn't think about the consequences of this matter at all. Said angrily.
"Mom, I have already discussed this matter with Grandpa Xia, and he agreed that I should do it. If he doesn't agree, I won't do this, and besides, I don't want to put the entire Xia family in it because of me! Such a sacrifice is too great for me to bear. Explained.
"Then you can't be with him, I won't agree to this matter anyway. It has nothing to do with your Grandpa Xia, it's my personal meaning. Said strongly.
"Mom, it's useless if you don't agree, the decimal obeys the majority. Then there are dad and grandpa, what is their opinion?"
"Your dad and your grandpa agreed with you to do this, but I can't tell them."
"It seems that Dad and Grandpa can look at this problem in the long run, Mom, I beg you, this time you will listen to me, whether it is success or failure is up to me. I'm not a child anymore, don't treat me as a child anymore, let me make my own choice, I believe there is nothing wrong with my own choice. "Said in the affirmative.
"My meaning is very simple, I don't agree, you can do it yourself!" Said speechlessly.
"Mom, don't meddle in this matter, okay, listen to my dad and grandpa, they are right to support me." Said beggingly.
"Okay, I can leave it alone, but you have to remember not to regret it if you do fail." Said angrily.
"I won't regret it." Say yes.
My communication with my mother was not very ideal, and Yunfan was very worried when he came back from shopping and saw me.
"Tingting, what's wrong? Did you quarrel with your aunt?" Asked worriedly.
"It's okay, it's my mom who doesn't understand me doing this. They think I'm doing something wrong and want me to stop immediately. Said aggrievedly.
"It's okay, I can understand Auntie. She's also good for you, don't be angry. Comforted.
"It's a decision I made and I'm not going to back down. It's useless for anyone to persuade me. "Said in the affirmative.
"I believe in your decision, and I support you." Holding my hand, he said.
I thought it was funny to see the way he encouraged me. I went to his side to make him die for me, but I didn't expect it to be the opposite. If he knew the purpose of my coming to him, would he still encourage me and comfort me in this way?
"What's wrong? What are you thinking about?" I watched that I didn't speak, and kept staring at him.
"Didn't think anything? Why do you think you're so good to me?" Then he asked.
"I'm good to you because I like you, and I want to give you all the best things in the world." Wiping my tears from my eyes.
"Then if I do something wrong, will you blame me?" Asked tentatively.
"No, even if you do something wrong, it's your own reluctance that someone else forced you to do." Shaking his head, he said.
I nodded and didn't speak, he was very distressed to see me like this. Sitting next to me, hugging me and saying, "Don't cry, I'm there next to you!" I'll take you to have fun and eat good food. Leave all the worries behind you and don't think about it, okay?"
"Okay, I don't want to. What I bought, what did I buy!" Come back to your senses and say.
"I've been looking for this for a long time to find it, do you want to reward me?"
Without thinking too much, I kissed her on the cheek and took the thing in his hand. Foreign food is really good, no worse than China.
"How? It's delicious! I also bought you a drink, for fear that you would choke. Said with the bag of drinks.
I smiled and said, "I knew you knew you needed the most right now." ”
"Of course, I'm going to be your husband. If I don't know what you need, my husband is incompetent. Said with satisfaction.
"So narcissistic, I really didn't expect you to be a narcissistic person, it really impressed me."
"My narcissism is also revealed in front of you, and I will never show it in front of others." Hippie said with a smile.
"I'm fine, keep going! There must be something fun in there, and I want to soothe my mind. "Pointing inward.
"Let's keep going, gather our minds." Said gently.
We walked around Chinatown and bought a lot of food, especially the Golden Star Vietnamese Restaurany. His belly was swollen, like a little fat man.
What you can't miss in San Francisco is the bell car in San Francisco, and you know the origin of the bell car. In the summer of 1869, the engineer Andrew saw five horses on a hillside fall to their deaths, and anyone who saw such a scene would be deeply and shockingly impressed, and Andrew, who witnessed the tragedy, created such a tram car. Therefore, the cablecar terminal at the intersection of Powell Street and MarketStreet was named HallidiePlaza in honor of the father of the bell car.
IN 1906, THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO WAS DEVASTATED, AND THE CABLE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED, AND ALTHOUGH SOME OF THE ROUTES WERE REPAIRED, THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO INTENDED TO REPLACE THE CABLE CAR WITH A TRAM AND A CAR, AND THE CITIZENS OF SAN FRANCISCO, LED BY FRIEDEL KLUSSMANN, MANAGED TO KEEP THREE OF THE ROUTES. Restored between 1981 and 1984, the three routes, namely MasonSt., Hyde St. and California St., are operated by MUNI with a total of 37 cable cars that transport thousands of visitors every day.
No matter which way you look at the streets of San Francisco, the cars are a little old but do not impress the curious impression of tourists about the bell car, from the departure station near Union Square there are a lot of tourists who jump on the bus halfway, we bought tickets at the departure station to get on the bus, we take the bell car directly to Fisherman's Wharf.
San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf is a famous tourist attraction in San Francisco, USA, which roughly covers the area from Grodley Square in the northern waters of San Francisco to Pier 35, and the famous event is the United States National Day fireworks display.
Many malls, shopping malls and restaurants are located in the Fisherman's Wharf area. Today, most of the seafood stalls are concentrated in Jefferson st. At the intersection with Taylor St., across the plaza is a circular sign with the words "Fisherman's Wharf" on it. In addition to these seafood stalls, there are museums, shops, book galleries, antique shops, restaurants, shopping malls, and souvenir shops, among others. Pier 39, like Ghirardelli Square, the Canning Factory and Anchorage Square, is a waterfront festival plaza. Here you can enjoy delicious seafood, especially the famous Pacific crab, or watch the busy fishing boats in and out of the harbor with the sea breeze blowing in and out.
In addition, the coast near the pier is rich in delicious crabs, shrimp, abalone, squid, sea urchins, salmon, mackerel and cod, and there are many stalls selling seafood by the pier, and the crabs and shrimp are cooked in pots, which is also a scene of Fisherman's Wharf.
This afternoon at Fisherman's Wharf, I can see the beautiful sunset, which is very satisfying. Although there was a small episode in the course of today's play, it did not affect my mood in the slightest. I was unhappy for a short time, but I endured it for the safety of the Xia family. The grievances I have suffered today are nothing, and sooner or later I will have to get them back. I will never allow anyone to bully me and my family, and if anyone dares to touch my family, I will make him pay the price he deserves.
