Chapter 23: The Buddha of the Yellow Temple (1)
The next morning, she was dressed very elegantly, wearing a light gray velvet tracksuit, and seemed to say to me mysteriously: "Today, I will take you to meet a ......"
I rarely saw her so mysterious, so I asked curiously, "Who?" ”
She said, "Let's go, you'll know when you get there......"
I became more and more curious, so I had to get into her car and set off like a gourd with a muffled mouth.
The car drove until Andingmen before she said, "Huangsi, do you know?" "I wondered what she was going to do.
Of course I know about the Yellow Temple.
The Yellow Temple we are going to now is also known as the West Yellow Temple, which is the palace built by Emperor Qianlong in Beijing to meet his Tibetan political and religious leader, the 6th ** Erdeni Master in Beijing. Later, the sixth ** master passed away in the "Temple of Sumeru Zongsheng" in the eight temples outside the Chengde Summer Resort.
This made the Qianlong Emperor deeply shocked, grief, the body of the sixth ** master was sent back to Shigatse, Tibet, "Tashilhunpo Monastery" to build a mausoleum, and at the same time, in the Xihuang Temple, set up a Nirvana pagoda carved from white marble, and also set up a bronze gilded sun and moon treasure top and tower umbrella.
A set of monk's clothes of the sixth ** master was placed in the tower, and he personally named the cloth crown tower commemorating the merits and achievements of the ** master as "Qingjinghua City Tower", showing the pious belief and incomparable respect of the people for Tibetan Buddhism at that time.
After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, under the cordial care of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, the 10th Master Erdeni Chokyi Gyaltsen and President Zhao Puchu of the Buddhist Association of China initiated the establishment of the "China Tibetan Language Senior Buddhist Institute" in Xihuang Monastery on September 1, 1987, aiming to cultivate senior monks of Tibetan Buddhism and reincarnated living Buddhas in Tibet and Mongolia.
Until now, it has been home to living Buddhas and monks from many sects of Tibetan Buddhism.
I went to a classmate who believed in Tibetan Buddhism once when I was in college, and I was deeply attracted by the atmosphere and mysterious rituals at that time, so I went there several times later.
Xu Konglan suddenly asked me if I knew where it was, and I quickly nodded and said, "Yes." ”
Only then did she begin to say calmly:
"Mingxi, I'm in Japan, and I've been exposed to some Buddhism. When I first came into contact with the Nichiren sect, it was actually the same thing as our Pure Land sect. Later, when I was in Nara, I came into contact with a monk who was studying Tantra. I felt that he was amazing, and there were often unexpected things that happened that shocked me. ”
But he said he admired Tibet. I want to have the opportunity to go to Tibet to worship. He said that their Japanese 'Tantra' is 'Eastern Tantra', which is not primitive or pure, unlike the Tibetan 'Tantra' that remains authentic...... I became interested in Tibetan Buddhism. ”
"I remember that you used to be interested in Tibetan Buddhism with Wang Ziyuan in our class, right?"
I said calmly, "I didn't, in fact, I went with him a few times." ”
Actually, I don't believe in religion, and I always feel a little bored, but subconsciously I don't want to avoid the opportunity to come into contact with religion, because I always think that religion still exudes purity and nobility.
Xu Konglan smiled: "I really didn't see it." I heard Gao Lingtao say that Wang Ziyuan went to your Binjiang City, and it seems that he has been a leader in a certain department, do you know? ”
Somehow, I got a little upset and replied a little absent-mindedly: "Oh, yes? No, I didn't contact him. ”
We arrived at the Yellow Temple.
In fact, the current Yellow Temple is a well-known academy located on a quiet street.
Renowned scholars from all major Tibetan sects, the Great Living Buddhas, and the highly qualified "Geshes" often teach the living Buddhas who study here the religious philosophy, profound teachings, and practical methods of Tibetan Buddhism (the Geshe is a degree selected through rigorous examinations and debates, and those with such degrees are often leaders in monastic teaching and academic authorities). It is also divided into four degrees, with the highest grade being "Laramba" equivalent to what we usually call "postdocs").
Since it is an academy, it is less worldly and noisy than many monasteries in our impressions, and more of an atmosphere, quiet and peaceful, mysterious, and serious.
There is an extra courtyard outside the main gate of Xihuang Temple, and there is an iron gate that is not big or small, which is open to the west.
There is a bronze plaque hanging at the door, which reads in Chinese, Tibetan, and Mongolian: China Tibetan Department of Higher Buddhist College. The Mongolian script on the sign invisibly shows that the Mongolian people also believe in Tibetan Buddhism. The Yuan Dynasty's national teacher, His Holiness "Ba Sipa", is an example of this.
To speak in good conscience, looking at that sign, I feel more mysterious and holy than the signboard of Tsinghua University and Peking University. I don't know where this idea came from, but it was contradictory and bizarre.
The door was tightly shut, except for a small iron door next to the communication room.
Looking in from the door, there was no one, the gate was facing due south, it seemed to be a hospital belonging to the military district or something, I don't remember very clearly, and there were few people inside, which made people feel a little deserted.
Xu Konglan got out of the car and went to the communication room to negotiate, and wanted to enter the Yellow Temple.
The old man at the door was very serious, not only registered the ID cards of each of us, but also called the living Buddha Xu Konglan wanted to see, and confirmed that the living Buddha was not teaching the students, and then let us in.
This cooled Xu Konglan's enthusiasm, which was particularly high just now.
The old man opened the gate, and Xu Konglan parked the car in front of the real gate of Xihuang Temple.
We stood outside the gate of the Yellow Temple, which was really built in the middle of the Qing Dynasty, looking at the bright yellow glazed tiles and the painted pink gold lacquer of the dragon and phoenix seals that only the royal family could use, looking at the ochre-red walls and the neatly arranged gilded door nails on the gate, and looking at the "****" embedded in the walls on both sides and made of colored glazed bricks, symbolizing the true truth of Buddhism's "dependent arising emptiness".
While chatting with Xu Konglan, I tried my best to imagine the spectacular scene of the glory of the top and the pilgrimage here.
This main gate is not opened, because it will only be opened when it is to welcome eminent monks like "** masters" and state leaders who come to inspect.
We followed a fairly wide road to the east and turned a few corners before we entered the academy.
On the ground inside the academy, dark brown and white paint is used to paint auspicious clouds, hata, intestines, flowers and other patterns.
This is actually a traditional custom of the Tibetan people. On some festivals and special anniversaries, each family will sprinkle various auspicious patterns with white and red soil at their door, and will do the same when welcoming the living Buddhas and dignitaries they worship in particular.
There are often some high-ranking and learned living Buddhas and geshes here, which have to be painted many times a day, and it is also very unhygienic, so we use this more flexible method to adapt to the changing environment.
This is the wonderful state that religion has always advocated and strived for.
