Let me first tell you about a story in Feng Menglong's "Xingshi Hengyan" "Lu Dongbin Flying Sword and Cutting Yellow Dragon". Lu Dongbin is the founder of the Taoist Zhong Lu Neidan School, the patriarch of the Northern and Southern Sects of the Neidan School, and is respected by Taoists as "Lu Zu", and Huanglong refers to the first ancestor of the Huanglong School of the Linji Sect, Huanglong Huinan Zen Master. The public case between the two is very different from each other. β
Zen Buddhism tells about the public case:
In "Five Lantern Huiyuan", it is said that Lu Dongbin, who studied immortal arts, visited Lushan Guizong Temple and wrote a poem on the wall of the bell tower expressing his disapproval of Zen: "A day of leisure and leisure, the six gods and harmony report peace." There is a treasure in the dantian to seek the way, and there is no intention to ask Zen in the mirror. β
Later, Lu Dongbin passed through Huanglong Mountain, saw the purple clouds rising on the mountain, gathered in the air into the shape of a car cover, knew that there were strangers, so he went to Huanglong Mountain Chong'en Temple, just in time for Huanglong Zen Master to ascend to the hall to preach, so he quietly hid in the crowd under the hall.
Zen Master Huanglong saw it, guessed that the person who came was Lu Dongbin, and wanted to enlighten him, so he said sharply: "There are people below who are secretly learning Buddhism!" β
Lu Dongbin walked out of the crowd, boldly stepped forward, and said a verse: "A grain of millet hides the world, and half a liter of bell cooks mountains and rivers." Then he asked, "What about my words?" β
Zen Master Huanglong pointed at Lu Dongbin, glared at him and said, "You ghoul! Lu Dongbin said: "I have the elixir of immortality in my pocket!" Zen Master Huanglong said, "After eight hundred tribulations, you will be empty after all." β
Lu Dongbin was a little shocked, but he was still not convinced, so he pulled out his sword and stabbed at Zen Master Huanglong. The tip of the sword could not penetrate the body of the Zen master, Lu Dongbin was shocked, so he bowed down to call his disciple and asked the Zen master for advice.
Zen Master Huanglong asked: "I don't want to ask you about the 'half-liter bell boiling mountains and rivers', but how do you first ask how 'a grain of millet hides the world'?" β
Lu Dongbin was enlightened at the words, and immediately composed a poem of enlightenment: "Abandon the scoop and break the qin, and now I don't love mercury and gold." Since I saw Huanglong, I felt that I had the wrong intentions before. β
The theoretical weapon of Huanglong's defeat of LΓΌ Dongbin was the Buddhist theory of emptiness and the Zen theory of mind based on this theory. Zen Master Huanglong denounced Lu Dongbin, who came to participate in Zen, as a "ghoul", and denied the "elixir of immortality" that Lu Dongbin relied on with "although he has gone through 800 eons, he will eventually fall into vain", which reflects the denial of the Taoist concept of immortality and physical ascension by the Zen theory of mind.

"Lu Zuzhi" said that Lu Dongbin arrived at Huanglong Mountain in Wuchang and was just in time for Huanglong Zen Master to ascend to the throne and preach the Dharma. Lu Dongbin ascended to the drum platform (there is a drum on the stage, and you can beat the drum to summon the monks to listen to the Dharma) to listen to the lecture.
The Zen master asked who was under the throne, and Lu Zu replied, "Yunshui Dao people." The Zen master made a sharp move: "What should I do when the clouds run out and the water is dry?" β
Lu Zu replied: "Drought kills monks." The Zen master said, "The yellow dragon has appeared." Lu Zu continued: "Flying sword slash it." β
The Zen master laughed and said, "Duh! The battle of tongues can't win against you! So he explained to Lu Dongbin the root of the avenue.
Lu Dongbin offered a note: "Abandon the scoop and break the qin, Da Dan is not gold in the water alone." Since seeing Huanglong, he has instructed everyone to search for it. Then he bowed and departed.
There is a note under "Flying Sword Chopping Zhi" in this public case, explaining that "Flying Sword Chopping Yellow Dragon" says that the world has the legend of Lu Dongbin flying sword and slashing Yellow Dragon because of this sentence, but in fact, it is just the words spoken by the two of them fighting Zen and fighting Jifeng.
The Taoists saved face for Lu Dongbin in the fight for the Zen machine, and further told a story of "Yangzhou Guanqionghua":

Wouldn't it be nice for the two Venerable Teachers to go to the meeting to see Qionghua? β
Zen Master Huanglong said, "I'll go with Mr. Lu. Then he went indoors, meditated with his eyes closed, and went away. Lu Dongbin was calm, and did not say goodbye to the public, but only played with everyone in the same place.
After some time, Huang Long finished his meditation and came out of the abbot's room. The first one asked Zen Master Huanglong, "How is the Qionghua Festival?"
Zen Master Huanglong happily replied: "The Qionghua Festival will be too lively, too lively!" The first seat also asked happily, "Did you bring a branch of Qionghua for us to see?"
Zen Master Huanglong replied: "Nothing is stained, and the color of emptiness is empty." Lu Dongbin smiled and said, "How can you bring Qionghua like that?"
Then Lu Dongbin said: "There is no obstacle to coming and going, there is no emptiness, and the Tao is empty." Although you have seen the Qionghua Festival, you have not seen the good things in the event. Then he took out a qionghua from the Jiuyang scarf, and took out four sour fruit cakes from his sleeve.
When all the monks saw it, they cheered and praised Lu Dongbin's wonderful spells. Zen Master Huanglong said, "When I was playing with my husband, I went in and wanted to break off a flower, but I couldn't raise my hand. Although I am proficient in a hundred kinds of spells, I don't know the spell of folding flowers, and I am very ashamed, I am willing to worship Mr. as a teacher, please pass on the secret to me. β
Lu Dongbin said: "I see that you are very important in fame and fortune, and you have not yet detached, so I came here to save you." You are in and out of God, and out of God is only Yin God. When the yin god is out of the body, he can only see others, and others cannot see you. So you can only go to the meeting, but you can't take anything with you; You can only smell the aroma of food, but you can't eat it. Your mind is the ghost of the yin spirit, and it is the work of the ghost. My god is the god of the sun. I can see others, and others can see me. I can go to meetings and eat at the same time. My Yang God can be formed, scattered can become wind, change supernatural powers, my Taoism is unfathomable! β
The saying that the yin god and the yang god come out of the story comes from the Taoist theory of dual cultivation of life, which is used by Taoism to deal with the clear mind of Zen Buddhism.
