In the early 20s of the 21st century, humans designed intelligent machines (referred to as smart machines for short) created by artificial intelligence, which aimed to enhance production and create world economic prosperity.

In France, Emily Rakva, the wife of Overwatch agent Jaha Rakva, was transformed into a sleeper agent and super-assassin by the evil organization Black Claw, and then killed her husband, known as Black Lily.

Many became mercenaries like McRae, "Angels" and Reinhardt fought to continue their heroism, while others, like Winston, waited for the return of the heroes, and Black Lily was still alive.

The Shimada crime family still retains its power in Japan (despite the departure of the family's heir, Hanzo).

Jack Morrison, a masked defender who calls himself Soldier:76, steals weapons from the former Overwatch to hunt down enemies who stand in his way.

Reyes became the terrifying killer Grim Reaper and hunted down and killed former Overwatch members.

After Overwatch was disbanded, a second intellectual machine crisis broke out in Russia, and the "Black Claw" group led by the Grim Reaper hunted down and killed former members of the Vanguard of the Guard and humans and robots aimed at maintaining a harmonious relationship between humans and intelligent machines, and Black Claw invaded Winston's base and nearly stole data about the former Overwatch members, in this case, Winston reconvened the Overwatch members in defiance of the "Petra" decree.
