Chapter 19: The First Encounter

It was raining again as usual, and the road outside was too muddy for Zhang Haifei's wheelchair to get out. But Huang Siyao wants to go out for a walk, and now she goes out alone every day, mainly in the woods, where she can really be alone and no one can see her.

Today, Zhang Haifei wanted to send a message to the forest farm guard, and Huang Siyao said that she could go to the dormitory to deliver the letter.

The weather was damp and gloomy, and it seemed as if the whole world was slowly dying, gloomy, damp, and silent.

The forest was silent, except for the hollow crackling sound of the falling water falling from the tree trunks splashing on the ground, and all that remained was the deep old woods, dead and silent, lifeless, illusory and empty.

Huang Siyao walked forward groggyly. The old forest exuded an ancient sense of desolation, which actually made her feel a little comforted, which was much better than the cold and unforgiving world outside. She liked the remnants of the old forest, it had a restrained temperament, it was the wordless reserve of those old trees.

When she walked out of the forest from the north, she saw the dormitory of the forest farm guard. It was a detached house, which the caretaker's family had rented or bought from a local farmer.

Now that she had come here alone, she felt a little shy, ashamed to see the sharp-eyed man. She was reluctant to give him orders. She felt like she wanted to go. She knocked softly on the door, but no one came to open it. She knocked again, but still didn't use any force, the voice was not loud, and still no one answered. She peeked through the window and saw a dark room, the things inside couldn't be seen clearly, and the shadows were quite scary, and she didn't want people to go in.

She stood and listened, hearing what seemed to be something behind the dorm room. Because she didn't hear clearly, she was bent on wondering what was going on. She was not reconciled.

So she went around to the back of the house. The ground behind the house rises up and creates a steep slope, so the backyard is sunken and surrounded by a low wall. She turned the corner and stopped.

It was the toilet, and the man was taking a bath, unaware of the movement outside. There are very few people coming and going, so the windows are ajar and not completely closed.

Li Guangfu was naked, revealing his lean waist. He hummed a song, looking completely self-satisfied. Huang Siyao hurriedly took a step back and retreated behind the corner, not only because she was shy, but also because she was afraid that others would find out. She walked briskly towards the woods. But she couldn't help but be shaken. But it was just a man taking a bath, so commonplace, God knows why.

Strangely, the scene was so dreamlike that it struck the center of her body. Although he was lean, he had a toned physique, and there was not a single excess fat on his body. His figure can be described as perfect.

Huang Siyao felt that this sight shocked her deeply. She knew it because the shock was within her. But her sanity couldn't help but laugh at herself. Why did she encounter such a vulgar private matter!

So she walked away. After a while she sat on a stump, her mind confused and unable to think. But in the confusion she decided that she was going to bring the message to the guy anyway, and she wouldn't flinch. However, she had to give him time to wait for him to get dressed, but not too long, in case he went out, and presumably he was going to go out.

So she walked back slowly, listening to the movement as she went. When I got closer, I found that the dormitory was still the same. A dog barked. She knocked on the door, and her heart jumped involuntarily.

She heard the man's footsteps coming down the stairs softly, but she didn't expect him to open the door so quickly, so fast that she was surprised. He looked a little uneasy, but a smile immediately appeared on his face.

"Hostess!" He said, "Come in and sit." ”

He behaved at ease, and she stepped over the threshold into the dreary hut.

"I'm here to give you a message from Zhang Haifei." She said softly but breathlessly.

The man looked at her as if he had seen through everything, causing her to turn her head slightly away from his gaze. He thought she was pretty when she was shy, almost beautiful. He immediately took control of the situation.

"Can you please sit down?" He asked, presumably she wouldn't sit. The door is still open.

"No, thank you! Zhang Haifei wants you to ......" she conveyed the message, and involuntarily looked into his eyes again. Now his gaze was warm and kind, a special kind of warmth and kindness towards women, which was both relaxed and natural.

"Yes, hostess! I'll do it right away. ”

After receiving the order, he immediately changed into a person, his attitude was blunt, and the person also became different. Huang Siyao hesitated, she should have left. But she looked at the little living room, which was clean and tidy, but a little dull, in amazement.

"Are you going to live here alone?"

"No, hostess, my mom and the kids live here too."

As he spoke, there was an indescribable mockery on his ordinary, somewhat haggard face. It's a face that's always changing, and it's hard to figure out.

Huang Siyao looked at him again. A smile appeared in his eyes again, and although he was still a little disdainful, his eyes began to become warm and kind.

She looked at him. He wore loose trousers and a comfortable shirt, his hair was soft and damp, and his face was not as dark as that of a southerner. When the smile in his eyes disappeared, it looked like he had suffered a lot, but there was still no loss of warmth in his eyes. Then his face turned pale with loneliness, for she had not come to see him.

Huang Siyao had a lot to say, but she didn't say it, she just looked up at him again and said:

"I hope I didn't bother you."

He smiled softly, his eyes half-narrowed.

"I just took a shower, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, but I really don't know who's knocking on the door. Usually no one knocks on the door here, but when I hear a knock on the door, I think something is wrong. ”

He went up the garden path in front of her and helped her hold the door. She noticed that he was long and thin without the coat and only in the shirt. Walking past him, she felt that his unkempt hair and keen eyes made him look young and lively. He must have been thirty-seven or eighteen years old.

She walked slowly into the woods, knowing that he was watching her from behind, which made her feel uncomfortable.

And he, when he got back into the house, was still thinking, "She's nice, really kind." She didn't know how kind she was. ”

She was curious about him: he was too much of a forest keeper, not even a migrant worker, and although he had something in common with the locals, he did have something different.

~~~~~
"The guard named Li Guangfu is a strange man," she said to Mr. Zhang, "and he can almost be considered a gentleman." ”
"Is he?" Zhang Haifei said, "I didn't see it. ”
"But isn't he a little special?" Huang Siyao insisted.
"I think he's a good guy, but I don't know much about him. Maybe he used to be a soldier for several years, and the army is a place to train people, I guess. He may have acquired some temperament there. Perhaps he was the screed of a certain chief, and he had grown in that position. Some of them are decent, but that's not good for them, because they're going to have to go back to the way they were when they get home. ”
Huang Siyao stared at Zhang Haifei thoughtfully. She could see that he was particularly repulsive to those of the lower classes who had the potential to really climb upward. She knew that people like Zhang Haifei were like this.
"But, don't you think he's a little special?" She asked.
"Frankly, I don't think so! I didn't notice at all. ”
He looked at her curiously, his eyes uneasy and a little suspicious. She felt that he didn't tell the truth, and he didn't tell the truth to himself, and that's it. He didn't like to hear that someone was really outstanding, and people should probably be on the same level, preferably lower than him.
Huang Siyao once again felt how stubborn and stingy men of her generation were. They are too opinionated, too afraid of life!
