Chapter Eighty-Five: Somewhat Familiar
The unknown is the source of fear.
It's just a chair. Chi You silently cheered himself up in his heart, he simply turned his heart sideways, changed the direction of his steps, and walked to the guide table.
He wanted to see what was going on in this chair.
"You're late, the hunt is almost over, and now there are only two prey left."
Just when Chi You's footsteps were just standing firmly in front of the guide table, a faint female voice suddenly thought in his ear. The voice came suddenly, and it was close to Chi You's ears, almost making Chi You jump in fright.
Chi You encouraged to stabilize his mind and looked at the place where the voice came from, which was the direction of the chair. Then, a strange scene unfolded before his eyes.
Above the originally empty chair, as the woman's voice slowly rippled like water waves, a vague figure gradually appeared in the air.
It was the silhouette of a woman.
The woman's figure appeared in a half-hidden state and no longer continued to solidify, she was wearing a nurse's suit, her skin was like a piece of translucent jelly, and it was like a mineral water bottle with water, and under the incandescent light and black mist of the building, the light passed through her body, and was refracted at a strange angle, enveloping her with a strange halo.
Her body was blurry, and Chi You couldn't see her face clearly with all her eyesight. The only thing that could be seen clearly and the most eye-catching was the blood-red lips on her face.
Chiyou's Adam's apple rolled up and down, and he swallowed a mouthful of saliva that didn't exist. As I said before, the unknown is the source of fear. When he really saw the culprit who made the chair turn, Chi You's heart was half relieved. At least, listening to the words of this thing, she had not yet shown hostility and suspicion towards him.
Chiyou didn't know what the so-called hunting meant, so he nodded haphazardly and didn't reply.
"Let's go, the first floor has been blocked, you can go upstairs and try your luck." Unlike her eerie appearance, the monster's tone was unexpectedly amiable. She stretched out a faintly visible arm and pointed in the direction of the staircase at the back of the hall.
Chiyou nodded again at the monster he had temporarily named "Nurse", still not speaking, trying to keep himself as calm as he walked around the guide table and towards the back of the hall.
When he walked some distance, he looked back in the direction of the guide table. The chair behind the desk had returned to its previous empty state, and the nurse had already hidden her figure for a while.
This was the first intelligent monster Chiyou encountered after entering this level, and he knew that this would definitely not be the last one he encountered here.
Chiyou tries to make his steps steady and his movements more natural. He walked through the building's first-floor lobby towards the back of the hall where the nurse's arm pointed.
On the other side of the hallway, he saw a row of registration windows separated by glass.
Although the hall was dimly lit and a layer of black mist wafted through, it was still possible to see objects at close range. And Chi You looked at the registration window, and on the other side of the glass of the registration window, it was an absolute darkness that his eyes could not penetrate.
When Chi You's gaze fell into the darkness, he only felt the hairs behind his back explode, and his heart was alarmed, although he didn't see anything, but his intuition told him that there was a pair of eyes in the darkness that were watching him the same.
When Chiyou got closest to the registration window, there was a strange "popping" sound from the other side of the glass. The sound was like that of a mollusk crawling on the ground with its soft limbs, tapping on the surface of its skin with a sticky liquid.
A flesh-red tentacle poked out of the small registration window, with a round sucker like a squid on the tentacle. The tip of the tentacle swayed in the air for a moment before slowly retracting to the other end of the glass.
Chi You feels that the glass of the registration window is like the dividing line between the two worlds, the other side of the glass is a dark space where light cannot penetrate at all, and the world on the glass side is relatively normal. This scene gives Chiyou a sense of familiarity. Or rather. From the moment he stepped into the automatic door of this level, to the nurse behind the guide desk and the table, to the time he walked to the dark registration window, the scene along the way reminded him of the hospital that floated inside.
Chiyou doesn't know if it's just a coincidence, or if all the hospitals in this game are laid out like this. After all, he had only been to the hospital in the Floating City, and there was no way for him to draw conclusions without enough samples.
Thinking of the hospital in Floating City, he couldn't help but think of the gentle Dr. Wu and the lovely nurse who liked to roll his eyes. With memorization, a sentence from Miss Nurse jumped uncontrollably in his mind.
"Then you'll see us eating."
The premise of this sentence was that he asked the nurse what would happen if he defaulted on the hospital's consultation fee, and the nurse gave him the answer in such a sentence.
Could it be ...... A bold idea appeared in Chi You's mind, could it be that this so-called checkpoint is that someone is in arrears of medical fees, and the doctors and nurses are going to open a meal? Because of what he doesn't understand the rules of the game, so the copies overlap with each other?
Chiyou continued to walk, gradually moving away from the registration window. He shook his head slightly, trying to throw this meaningless guess out of his mind, after all, he was only here to collect medical supplies, and it didn't matter to him what this level was. Now, the most important thing for him is gauze, herbs, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
I have to say that sometimes, Chi You, or Bai Siyi, who controls Chi You, her intuition is very keen, and she unconsciously reveals the truth.
Although Chiyou didn't want to continue to speculate, he somehow deviated from his intended route, and instead of going up the stairs, he walked to the path he remembered leading to the emergency hall.
It's a pity that he only walked a short distance on this road, and he had to reluctantly turn back.
Halfway down the road leading to the emergency hall, layers of spider-web-like structures were woven into the passage. The space between the white materials woven into the cobwebs was so narrow that no one could pass through them.
Chiyou tentatively touched the cobweb, and found that the white substance was similar to real spider silk, but also sticky. He tugged at the outermost cobweb, and found that the spider silk was very tough, and it was not at all something he could pull and break with his bare hands.
It seems that this is what the nurse at the door said that the first floor has been cordoned off, right?
Chiyou thought about the most likely place to have medical supplies, and all he could think of was a disposal room, a medicine pick-up office, and the two places he remembered were in the emergency hall. So, now he had to climb up the stairs to the floor above and then make a detour down to the emergency room.
Now, he just hoped that he wouldn't run into the other members of the hunt that the nurse had said. He believes that the other members are definitely not normal players, and they are probably intelligent zombies and strange monsters.
Walking into the stairwell, Chiyou couldn't help frowning. The stairwell had been wrapped in a layer of flesh-red substance. These flesh-red substances are like real muscles, and they contract and relax frequently in a rhythm similar to breathing. Under this layer of flesh-red substance, the incandescent lamp in the stairwell, which was not very bright, was wrapped in a layer of flesh-red. This makes the stairwell look like the digestive tract of a coelenteroid creature that you don't want to set foot in at all.
Chiyou retreated from the stairwell and searched the hall for a moment, only to find that in addition to this stairwell, even the elevator he least wanted to take was locked. It seems that in order to prevent the prey from escaping, this hospital did put up numerous obstacles.
However, since these obstacles are for the prey, and he is now tacitly accepted as a hunter, these obstacles should not be harmful to him. With this figured out, Chiyou returned to the stairwell again, reluctantly stepping her shoes on the layer of flesh that wrapped around the stairwell.
At the moment when Chi You stepped on the flesh membrane, the red flesh suddenly contracted, making Chi You's heart that couldn't beat also shrink. Fortunately, after a few moments, the meat was relieved again, and nothing happened again, silently allowing Chiyou to pass.
However, this did not make Chi You's mood any happier. It turns out that the feeling of nausea does not only come from physiology, but also the psychological feeling of nausea is even more difficult to suppress.
In this way, Chiyou forcibly endured the feeling of nausea and climbed to the second floor of the hospital as fast as he could.
