If the country lives and dies for profit, will it not be avoided because of good and evil?

——Speech at the 80th Anniversary Celebration Conference of the Central Party School and the Opening Ceremony of the Spring Semester of 2013

■Interpretation

Lin Zexu's couplet of poems is regarded by Comrade Xi Jinping as full of "feelings of serving the country". This kind of profound patriotism is precisely the core part of the national spirit that has been precipitated in the long history of 5,000 years. Whether it is "the humble does not dare to forget the country, and the matter must still be closed", or "who has not died since ancient times, leaving Dan to take care of the sweat", it is a portrayal of this kind of family and country feelings. From "fighting for national power externally and punishing national thieves internally" to "every inch of mountains and rivers and every inch of blood, 100,000 young people and 100,000 troops", from "rejuvenating China" to "we are all Wenchuan people", for more than 100 years, the spirit of patriotism has closely linked the destiny of the individual with the destiny of the nation, pushed generation after generation of Chinese to advance toward the Chinese dream, and gave us the energy to march toward national rejuvenation. This kind of patriotism has always been the spiritual force that unites the Chinese nation strongly, the soul of rejuvenating the country and strengthening the country with cohesion, and the inevitable part of the Chinese spirit that must be carried forward to realize the Chinese dream.

The force is weak and tired for a long time, and then exhausted and weak.

It is the gentleman's kindness that is just good for the soldiers.

Tell stories with mountain wives, and try to cut off the old scalp.

——(Qing) Lin Zexu "Go to the Chengkou to show the family"

■Definition

During the Opium War in 1841, Emperor Daoguang resolutely banned smoking and fought against the British army Lin Zexu to invade Yili in Xinjiang. In the eighth lunar month of the following year, Lin Zexu set off from Xi'an to Yili, reciting two poems before leaving, leaving his family behind. This is the second one.

The couplet of this poem, "The life and death of the country for profit, how can it be avoided because of misfortune and fortune", is a well-known sentence. The last sentence is from the words of Zheng Guoda's son in "Zuo Chuan: Zhao Gong Four Years": "Gou Li Sheji, death and life." "Life and death: a partial compound word, the real meaning is "death", and "life" only plays a foil role; The word "good or bad" in the following sentence is used in the same way. Lin Zexu believes that as long as it is beneficial to the country and the nation, even if he sacrifices his life, he will be willing, and he will never avoid it because he may suffer disasters. It shows the noble character of the author who puts national affairs first and disregards personal safety.

In the tail couplet, "Talking about the story with the mountain wife, trying to chant and break the old scalp", the poet used the story of Song Zhenzong's summoning of Yang Pu and Su Dongpo to go to the edict in "Dongpo Zhilin", and comforted his wife with drama. And self-note: "Song Zhenzong heard the hermit Yang Puneng's poems, and summoned him to ask: 'Is there anyone here to write poems to send to Qing?'" He said: "The minister's wife has a cloud: more restless and depressed to delay a glass of wine, and Mo is rampant and loves poetry." Today, the general will be arrested, and this time the old man's scalp will be ruined. 'Laugh and let go back to the mountain.' Dongpo went to the edict, and his wife cried when he was sent out, and Po Gu said: 'Can't Zidu write a poem for me like Yang's wife?' The wife laughed, and Poe was out. As a courtier, the poet's tone is calm, and in the humor of Kuangda, there is an irrepressible sense of sorrow, showing a broad mind that puts personal life and death aside.
