Chapter 6: Akeya's Diary (May 1)
May 1, 139 of the new era
It's been a quiet few days. The troops did not have a combat mission, and the guys from the Ministry of Intelligence did not come again. Lily was assigned to work at the hospital, while Tokar and I were very idle, cleaning was done and the rest of the time was spent with Lily. Sometimes I help out at the hospital, sometimes I just wander around the base, or I go to Catolana to make purchases.
In a few days, Lily will be sent to Red Pine Grove for a few months, and we will have to help her with some necessities.
In order to operate more effectively in the Alpha area, soon after entering the area, the colonel actively communicated with the locals, enlisted as much support as possible, and then hoarded some supplies in small towns and villages with the permission of the locals, and arranged for soldiers to guard them. In this way, the town is a supply camp that can quickly supply nearby troops.
In return, we will provide the local people with the supplies and medical assistance they need, so some people are willing to help us, but many more choose to refuse. They are tired of war and do not want to be involved anymore. Whether it is a terrorist or a peacekeeper, in their eyes they are murderous and unblinking.
It was almost noon, and the three of us were about to go shopping in town and have a meal by the way, when Jade showed up at the right time and came to me and Tokar, and we had to cancel our plans.
This time we didn't meet at the colonel's office, but went to the basement. There was a room opposite our dressing room, in which we found the colonel, and each found a place to sit down.
This room is a replica of the colonel's office, similar in size and in exactly the same layout. The difference is that the surrounding walls are not only soundproof, but also reflect various radio waves from the outside world, making it a top-secret space. It seems that the colonel has become cautious since the last visit of the Ministry of Intelligence, and even this second office, which has not been used for a long time, has come in handy.
"Stimulate the 'vipers' and narrow down their sources of weapons." The colonel said straight to the point.
Seeing that both Tokar and I were at a loss, Jade explained, "My informant in the Intelligence Department has sent a message. Recently, a local arms dealer has been acting a little strangely. He has traveled many places in the past, but he has been circling around the town of Zayesibi for the past few days. β
The town of Zayesibi is a border town near Adullar and has a large population. It is located in Area C, which is where "Vipers" are most commonly seen.
"Are they going to make a deal with Vipers?" I asked, "But does the Viper have its own stable source of arms?" β
"It stands to reason so," replied the colonel, "but the intelligence department has been tracking down the origin of their weapons and exerting pressure. In such a situation, it also makes sense to purchase a portion of conventional weapons through other channels. β
Indeed, most of the weapons used by the Viper were not supplied by local arms dealers, probably for fear of causing trouble. So it must be difficult for them to supply their arms. But occasionally there are exceptions, as we do today.
Tokar next to him didn't care about any of this, and he threw out the questions he was most concerned about.
"So what? Are we going to get rid of that arms dealer, or are we going to get rid of those snakes? β
"Of course it's arms." "It's expected that guy will be trading in Zayesibi tonight, but this information was obtained privately and hasn't been handed over to the intelligence department, so it's better if they don't know anything." β
Despite the fact that the colonel was bitten by the Ministry of Intelligence, he did not forget about our common goal - the defeat of the "Viper". Controlling the source of the Viper's arms can help the Intelligence Department, provided that they are not made aware of it.
I looked at Tokar, his arms crossed and his right index finger tapping his left arm, the expression on his face as stiff as ever, I couldn't tell if he was listening or thinking about something else.
"So, Colonel, what is your plan?"
"My idea is that the mobilization of troops is too inefficient, and this time I will leave it to you to deal with it, and evacuate immediately after destroying the arms. As long as they feel that there is a lot of risk involved in such a trade, the purpose has been achieved. Remember, don't make a big fuss, if you let the intelligence department smell it, you'll be in trouble. β
The Colonel's eyes were fixed on Tokar as he said this. Tokar didn't care, I knew he just wanted to know who he needed to take out, and how much. A task like this to destroy munitions certainly does not satisfy him.
It's just a pity that I didn't take this seriously. Otherwise, the rest of the story might not have happened.
*****
Our base is located in Region E, the southernmost part of the Alpha region, and Region C is in the northeast of the Alpha region, which is the most popular place in the entire region. It's more than 200 kilometers from the base to the town of Zayesibi, and after lunch, I, Tokar and Jed packed up our things and set off.
We first came to Catolanna, in a nondescript garage, to find our van. This is a vehicle specially designed for long-distance movement, which can carry a lot of things, food, weapons and equipment, communication equipment, etc., and can also be used as temporary shelter. The car was purchased locally, which is not easy to suspect, and there are various forged documents in the cab.
At 1400, we left on time. The driver was me as usual, Tokar was in the passenger seat, and Jade was in the back seat, checking our gear and continuing to lecture us.
"Our purpose is to sabotage the arms, and I repeat, arms, not heads. Now that we are targeted by the Ministry of Intelligence, we have to be careful in everything. β
Jade was almost word-for-word, and he was still looking at Tokar, but Tokar was looking at the scenery. Jade had no choice but to pat him on the shoulder.
"Do you hear that, Tokar? Say what about you. β
"Got it."
Tokar cupped his chin in one hand and squeezed the three words out between his teeth, not knowing whether to answer or mutter. But Jade's worries are not unfounded, I know very well.
Tokar was never soft on terrorists, and he always believed that the best way to fight them was to cut them down. After arriving in the Alpha region, he set a rule for himself: no matter what the task, he must kill a few members of the "Viper".
In January of this year, we went to rescue a local woman who had been kidnapped. It was not the "Viper" who kidnapped her, but the "Viper" was also present. As a result, Tokar insisted on fighting the "Viper", delaying the time, and the hostages were finally torn up. The colonel was so annoyed that he was confined for a month. I don't think that's going to teach him a lesson, though.
After a dreary drive, 1700, the car entered the woods south of the town of Zayesibi and stopped under the branches of trees that were about to spit green. We changed clothes in the car and observed the movement around us.
It was already dark, the cool breeze was blowing through the trees, and there was no one around. It seems that this place is inaccessible and safe enough. With all that ready, we got out of the car one after another, covered the body with camouflage, and cautiously sneaked into town.
The town of Zayesibi has three or four main roads, and the town centre is bustling with people walking and enjoying the after-dinner pleasure. We moved around the periphery of the town, and the estimated time of the transaction was 1830, and the specific location, the colonel predicted three, and we were each responsible for one.
I went outside a small inn on the west side of the town, took a brief look, and then set up an ambush on the roof of a small three-story building about 300 meters from the hotel. I pulled out my binoculars and stared intently around the hotel.
The hotel is only two floors, like a dilapidated building, and it is dilapidated. The sign hanging on the wall was slanted and dangling in the wind. Except for the light coming through the main entrance on the first floor, there is no other light. I had observed before I came up, and there was a door at the front and back of the hotel, and I was on the side of the hotel, so I could observe the movement of both doors at the same time.
Look at the watch, 1730, there is still about an hour. During this time, it was easy for me to lie on the roof of the building quietly and monitor the situation below. But today, I just stayed for a short time, and my heart was churning, and something always came to my eyes.
Lily and Tokar ......
They are my best friends and I will be happy to see them happy. However, the situation in the past two days is just the opposite, every time we go out together, I always think, they often communicate, they talk and laugh, they ...... Even though we were three of us, I felt that they were a little far away from me.
What does it really feel like?
I couldn't concentrate more and more because of my thoughts, and I thought about it for an hour, until a shrill truck whistle pulled my thoughts back.
Five large trucks crowded down the alley in front of the hotel, making a loud noise. Several residents came out of their homes, but just looked at them and went back.
In the crowd of people getting off the car, a short man caught my eye. He is a well-known local arms dealer, Erekri Abdulei Aranch. Surrounded by nearly twenty gunmen, he walked to the front door of the hotel, whispered a few words to a man next to him, and the man left.
He must have been the contact person to find Viper, and I quickly informed Tokar and Jed. Soon, both of them came to the roof to meet me.
*****
Around 1840, another group appeared. There were only six men in the group, and five in the back were armed with guns. At the forefront was a man in his 30s, with neat hair, a fair face and clear eyebrows, and bright clothes that contrasted sharply with the gunmen around him who smelled of gunfire. Perhaps this polite appearance can highlight his uniqueness even more, so that people can recognize him everywhere - the senior cadre of the "Viper", Mirmir.
Seeing Mirmiri appear, Erecri, who had been waiting for a long time, greeted him with a smile on his face, and Milmiri didn't look at him at all. I heard that this person is the think tank of the "poisonous snake", who once served in the army of a certain country, and his status seems to be above that of other cadres, so he is naturally arrogant. A small arms dealer like Erekri will certainly not take it seriously.
But Erekri didn't mind, the slick merchant had already developed a knack for reading people's speech. After a few pleasantries, he accompanied Milley into the hotel. Milmili was a very careful man, and he did not let Erekri's men enter the hotel with him. So the men scattered in all directions, and some of them also entered the hotel, but soon appeared on the roof of the hotel.
"Let's get moving!"
Jade picks a sniper position on the roof of the building and gives us orders. Tokar and I went downstairs and approached the hotel. Tokar was in charge of destroying the trucks, and I was in charge of dealing with the enemy who found him.
Soon, Tokar was in place. He was hiding in the shadows behind a bungalow, a truck a dozen meters in front of him, and I was crouching a short distance behind Tokar.
There were quite a few people around the truck, but their patrol routes were monotonous and could not complement each other at all. And the people in the hotel couldn't see the tokar - the van interfered with their view. There are also people who extend the security area to the neighboring residential area, which is a very wrong decision. Tokar was waiting there for his chance, until a gunman shook in front of him.
Tokar quickly reached out his hands from the shadows, like a chicken to bite a worm. The insect's mouth was covered, and he was stabbed in the neck, and he immediately lost his breath. Tokar held on to his increasingly heavy body as he caught the gun in the corpse's hand, then dragged it into the shadows and lowered it gently.
In less than three seconds, the hapless guy was left alone, and his death went unnoticed by the others. Over the next minute, two more guys broke away from the patrolling crowd and were dragged into the shadows by Tokar in the same way.
"Tokar, there's a blind spot on the first truck in the north, let's get started."
Jade gave another order. Tokar snuck up to the truck, took advantage of the nearby gunners, got under the truck, and began to install light bombs on the chassis.
These people's perception was so poor that Tokar was busy under the car for two minutes, and after all the bombs were installed from one car to another, they didn't even notice the three companions who had disappeared out of thin air. It seems that these people are supposed to be mercenaries put together by Erecley on the fly, lacking cooperation and indifferent to the lives of their comrades.
"Done." Tokar's voice came from the communicator.
"OK, you can withdraw, be careful." Jade said.
But just as I was about to leave, I saw the last thing I wanted: Tokar rolled out from under the truck, just in the sight of several gunmen, and he fired the first shot!
The gunmen fell, and many more were attracted by the gunfire. They spotted Tokar, and as a last resort, I emerged from hiding and shot him. Jade also found several gunmen on top of the hotel and took them down one by one. The front of the hotel immediately turned into a battlefield, and bullets flew everywhere.
"Akeya, Tokar, go hidden! Fight back! β
Less than half a minute after the first gunshot, Erekri ran out of the hotel, waving his hands and shouting something. He spoke Arlar, which I didn't understand, which probably meant letting his men protect their weapons. But as soon as he shouted a few words, Jed's bullet shut him up forever.
There was no need to kill Erecri, Jade did this to get Tokar out of the siege as soon as possible. Sure enough, as soon as Erecri fell, someone in the crowd shouted, and the mercenaries were like headless flies. The people who sent the money are all hanging, how can there be desperate motivation? Everyone stopped shooting and turned around trying to escape.
It was supposed to be a good opportunity for us to withdraw, but Tokar was able to get out of the way. He hastened his pursuit, and the saber in his hand swung a whirlwind of quick knives, and with the pistol fire, the men fell one after another in the burst of blood, and I saw only one of them escape.
The battle was over, but the residents had already been disturbed by such a big movement. A lot of people are looking here, and they've seen us, and now we have to leave.
"There's no time, you guys get out of here!"
Jade gave the order to retreat, but Tokar, who was in a hurry, did not chase the fleeing guy, but slowly scanned the surroundings, and the posture was completely a beast looking for prey. Jade urged again, but he didn't respond. Soon, the beast smelled the scent and ran in the direction of the back door of the inn.
"Follow him, Arkya! There's a snake in the back door! β
I followed Tokar to the back door of the hotel and understood. This kid was definitely discovered on purpose just now, just to find an opportunity to "lure the snake out of the hole". It was all Erecri's men who were killed, and the six "Vipers" took advantage of the chaos to escape and were coming out the back door, and five bodyguards surrounded Mirmir and escorted him to an SUV. Tokar sprinted and swooped straight at Mirmiri.
The five bodyguards raised their guns and shot at each other. Tokar gave full play to the bulletproof function of the combat suit on his body, completely ignoring the bullets in front of him, dodging if he could, resisting hard if he couldn't dodge, and the fire of the five automatic rifles couldn't stop him from rushing into the crowd. The five men flashed their daggers and stopped Tokar. Tokar didn't hesitate to fight them.
In the end, it was the bodyguards who protected Mirmir, these people were quite good in combat, and with the large number of people, it didn't take long for Tokar to fall into a bitter battle. Shooting rashly would have hurt him, so I had to rush to help.
"Ahh
Just as I was a few steps away from Tokar, a cry was heard. He was slashed, his right hand covered his left arm, and blood was spilled all over the ground, and he didn't know what kind of weapons these people were using, and they were so powerful. Tokar stopped, not trying to back off, he must have been red-eyed. One person on the other side also collapsed in a pool of blood, but the others were unscathed. Mirmili, in particular, did not hide in the car to avoid danger, and pointed at Tokar to make a big fuss.
"'Nameless', you can leave your life here today!"
Mirmiri commanded his men to besiege Tokar, and I hurried over and stood with him back to back, while the four men surrounded the two of us. It was no longer possible to fight, but Tokar's gasps rattled, and his uninjured right arm raised his knife againβhe still didn't want to leave.
"Attention you two! Get ready to break out! β
Jed's voice, followed by the sound of sniper rifle fire. The shot pierced the shoulder of the man in front of me and made a gap in their encirclement.
I decided to be sorry for Tokar once, pulled the improvised anesthetic needle out of my pocket and pressed it against Tokar's neck, and his body quickly went limp. I picked up Tokar on my back and ran all the way under the cover of Jade's fire, finally escaping. Thankfully, those people weren't in hot pursuit.
When we reached safety, Jade detonated the bomb and a deafening sound was heard from the hotel. Jade and I didn't have time to confirm the effects of the explosion and immediately took Tokar back to the van.
Jade examined Tokar's injury, which was a little below his left shoulder, and it didn't look deep, but it was bleeding profusely. If it weren't for the combat uniform, it is estimated that Tokar's arm would not have been saved. Jade bandaged him, and I started the van and headed straight to base.
*****
Back to the base is already 2110. Jade and I dropped off Tokar to Lily's room, a separate cabin not far from the dorm. Lily, who had already received the news, was standing anxiously in the doorway, and as soon as we came into sight, she ran over.
"How's it going?"
"Flesh wounds, a lot of blood. I just gave him a shot, doesn't it matter? I said.
Lily shook her head and told me it didn't matter. We helped Tokar, who was already awake, into the house. The effects of the anesthesia had not completely worn off, and Tokar threw himself on his chair as soon as he entered the room, breathing evenly, not saying a word, his eyes blank. Lily carefully unwrapped Jade's bandage and examined the wound.
"It's not deep, it doesn't hurt the bones, but it takes time to recover."
She took out various tools and disinfected Tokar and applied medicine. As soon as this was done, the door was pushed open.
"This is the second time, isn't it?"
The colonel walked in, and the meeting was the phrase. Tokar didn't answer, just turned his head.
"Give me a reason." The colonel continued.
"Mirmiri has appeared, and it must be more useful to kill him." Tokar replied calmly.
"But instead of killing him, you hurt yourself."
"I completed the task first this time, are you okay?"
Even if the task is completed, it doesn't mean that you can come here, I think this time Tokar will have to be punished and recuperate, and I'm afraid that he will rest for more than a month. But the Colonel's words greatly surprised me.
"It's good to be alive, take care of your injuries."
The Colonel walked out of the room like that, leaving me and Jade in a daze. It's really weird, according to the situation last time, Tokar should be locked up for another month, why is it okay? But this is also good, it shows that the colonel still understands Tokar. Thinking about it makes me feel a little more relaxed.
Looking at Jade again, his brows were furrowed, he was focused on thinking, his eyes were straight, and his expression did not show any ease at all. After a while, without even saying hello, he walked out quickly.
Now, it's just me and Lily and Tokar left in the room. I suddenly felt like I was redundant here.
"Tokar, rest well, and we'll take care of the rest." I say.
"Well, then I'll get out of the line first, Akya."
I said hello to Lily again and pushed the door open. As I walked past the window of my room, I heard Lily's voice crying.
"Don't do it again! Do you know how worried I am about you? β
"I'm sorry, but I still can't tolerate those people."
I couldn't listen to the conversation between these two people at all, so I had to run away and leave.
*****
I wanted to take a break at the base, but I was physically and mentally exhausted. After a short walk, I returned to the dormitory. I saw Jade in front of the door, and he saw me, and he quickened his pace towards me.
"Listen to Akeya, let me explain the current situation to you, you have to be prepared."
Jed's words were no joke and made me realize that what he was about to say was definitely not trivial.
"Someone from the Intelligence Department may be coming again in the next few days, I just discussed it with the colonel." "If the Intelligence Department asks you about Tokar, you can only say, 'It's the same cleaning team, but you're not familiar with it,' you see?" β
This sentence is enough to make any sleepiness disappear without a trace.
"Major, what does this mean?"
"My informant said that the Ministry of Intelligence already knew about the town of Zayesibi and had even surveyed the scene, although I don't know how they knew about it...... Some residents have seen us, so the intelligence department must have known that we had appeared, and then they would go and look for traces, traces that we had left behind. β
Vestige? I looked down and pondered, replaying the whole battle in my head, and found the key image.
"Could it be...... Blood? β
Jade nodded in acquiescence, "If the Intelligence Department collects all the blood left on the scene, even if it takes a few days, they will have no problem finding Tokar." β
"But how can you ...... with blood alone"
"Didn't you all have blood drawn during your physical examination before joining the army? Your DNA information was recorded at that time. Finding Tokar through this is effortless. β
Now I understand why the colonel did not punish Tokar - he is facing a crisis worse than the punishment.
"What should I do, can I only give up Tokar?"
"The Colonel intends to hide Tokar, or simply let him escape. However, Tokar was injured and locked out by the Ministry of Intelligence, and it was difficult for him to escape, so he could only take one step at a time. It's not too early, go get some rest. β
Jade disappeared into the night, leaving me in a daze. In the middle of the night, I walked into the room in a daze, and my mind was a mess.
Lily, Tokar, Ministry of Intelligence, identity exposed...... All sorts of words floated around in front of my eyes, upsetting me. I waved my hands violently, chased them away, and collapsed on the bed.
I couldn't get the best night's sleep this time around.
β
