Black and white impermanence is not called white impermanence or black impermanence because of differences in skin color or clothing color. Black and white impermanence is only a representation of yin and yang attributes, "black" and "white" represent one yin and one yang, that is, black impermanence represents the feminine body, and white impermanence represents the masculine body. This is also in line with the contrasting painting method of the black and white (black represents yin and white represents yang) colors of the yin and yang fish in the Taiji diagram. It can be seen that the theory of "impermanence" is also inseparable from the Taiji diagram, and the theoretical basis of "impermanence" is the theory of yin and yang.
From ancient times to the present, the colors of the Taiji diagram are black and white, and there is no representation of other colors such as yellow and purple, so when people describe things, it is impossible to deviate from the theory of yin and yang, and describe impermanence as yellow impermanence, purple impermanence or something.
Why can't there be only one impermanence but two digits in black and white? First of all, we must understand the question of what is a soul and what is a spirit. According to the explanation in the modern Chinese dictionary: soul - the old superstitious term, refers to the spirit that can exist apart from the body. Spirit--Superstition refers to the spirit that exists by being attached to the body. Although it is common to use the soul together to describe the soul, in fact, the two words clearly have very different meanings
The soul must be independent of the living body. But the spirit must be attached to the living body in order to exist, and the spirit cannot be independent, otherwise it cannot be called the spirit
The soul and the spirit both refer to a kind of spirit, which seems to be the similarity between the two, but the meaning of the word "spirit" is so broad that if you subdivide it, you can find that the "spirit" referred to by the soul and the spirit are actually different. The soul refers more to the soul, in addition to the "matter" that leaves the human body after death is the soul, it is often said, such as "the teacher is the engineer of the human soul", and the "soul" here refers more to thought and morality. There is also an explanation of the soul in the dictionary - the most quintessential and main part of things. Such as "the soul of the nation", "the soul of dance", "the soul of the Yellow River", etc., here more embodies a kind of cohesion, a spirit, an abstract life. And another explanation in the dictionary - spirit, energy. The words are courageous, courageous, and healthy. This "spirit" focuses more on energy than on spirit. Heaven and earth change people believe that the real spirit refers to qi; It is the qi circulating in the human body; It is the yang energy relative to the underworld; It is the qi that passes between the meridians; It is the vitality of the person mentioned in Qigong; It is the spirit of the avenue. In the configuration table of the five elements of yin and yang and the five internal organs in the "Yellow Emperor's Neijing", the spirit corresponds to the lungs in the five organs and the nose in the five senses, and the lungs and nose are precisely related to breathing and qi; And in "The Yellow Emperor's Neijing", there is also a cloud "hidden in the lungs", so the theory that the soul is broken is based on qi
From the above two points, it can be inferred that after death, the soul will fly away and leave the human body; And the spirit is that with the death of man, he has nothing to attach to, nothing to run, and then he is scattered; Therefore, there are idioms such as "the soul is scattered" and "the soul is not possessed", but it is not said that "the soul is scattered and the soul is flying".
Everything has yin and yang, so which is yin and soul? Which is yang? People often say that "the yin soul does not disperse", and the soul should naturally be yin, and I have not heard anyone say that "the yang soul does not disperse". And the spirit, there is no saying that it is yin, when people die, it is often said that the yang spirit is scattered, and the sky is weak, and it is natural for the spirit to be yang. But neither the soul nor the spirit can leave the living body, whether it is a human, a beast, or a plant, it is a living body, and leaving the living body means death.
The yin and yang attributes of the spirit should be consistent with the yin and yang attributes of the living body, if the male is yang, then the spirit is yang, and the female is yin. That's why when looking at palmistry, men should look at the left hand and women look at the right; When arranging the luck of the eight characters, it is necessary for men to be yang and yin, and women to be yin and yang, which is just the nature of "spirit". The yin and yang attributes of the soul are the opposite of those of the living body, if the male is yang, the soul is yin, and the female is yin, then the soul is yang.
