Chapter 6: Escape from the Nest
"Me too. You ready? ”
Pinkerton nodded, and took out *. Augustus is armed with a laser gun.
"Throw as far away as you can, don't get too close to us. Also, don't get too close to the truck carrying our friends. Augustus said, "You call the shots." ”
Pinkerton was ready and then said, "Action." ”
Augustus raised his gun and began to aim. The EMP shell arced through the air and landed on the concrete floor at the far end of the garage. A rapid humming sound began to sound, and four nearby agents* fell to the ground, rolling and screaming.
Augustus rushed into the garage and kept pulling the trigger of the laser gun, the blazing light shooting into the eyes of the other agents who were attracted by the explosion. Pinkerton followed him closely, firing non-stop*.
The raid initially seemed to be a success, with nine or ten agents already falling in a few ups and downs, but others had begun to regroup and find cover.
"Hide!" Augustus shouted, and then he and Pinkerton hid behind the car, but the two separated.
The agents' helmets allowed them to communicate via radio, meaning that Augustus could not hear them and analyze their movements, and their shields rendered electromagnetic interference useless. But his eagle vision lets him know that six enemies are shrinking to their side, that they have weapons ready, and unlike him and Pinkerton, these agents' weapons are deadly.
Augustus struggled to jump out, threw hypnotics*, and then used smoke bombs to cover his retreat. He heard two or three agents fall to the ground, unconscious, but then gunshots rang out throughout the garage. Augustus was not hit, but he was frightened and the * in his hand fell to the ground. He quickly absconded, threw a smoke bomb to give himself more time to evacuate, and then ducked behind a car on the other side of the garage.
Pinkerton hadn't moved, and when the smoke cleared, Augustus saw that there were still four agents moving outside. They were approaching his friends, and Augustus was expecting reinforcements to arrive.
He didn't know if the range of the laser gun was enough from where he was, and besides, the agents had their backs to him. He ran out of cigarette bombs and had no money on hand*, and he had no choice but to expose himself and have the agents target him.
He was about to shout when he heard another gunshot, and one agent fell, and the others dragged their wounded companion and scattered.
The gunfire appeared to come from another row of cars, perhaps the same van where the others were hiding.
Pinkerton took advantage of the opportunity to act, he threw a smoke bomb, smoked, and rushed through the empty garage to the source of the gunshot.
"Augustus!" A deep, familiar voice shouted.
Augustus froze. "Hudson?"
"Can you come to us?" Pinkerton asked.
Augustus poked his head out of his hiding place to take in the situation, but as soon as he stuck his head out, he heard a gunshot. The bullet hit the vehicle next to his head and ricocheted off.
Augustus hid again, "I'm suppressed!" ”
There are three agents left in the garage, ready to shoot at any moment. The contact lenses let him know where the men were, through their rising heart rate and the airflow created by their rapid breathing, but Augustus was still unable to fight back.
Hudson couldn't hit them cleanly, and the agents found cover.
"Hudson?" Augustus shouted.
"Here." Hudson replied loudly.
"What are you doing here?"
"After I cut off the signal with you, I came in." He said, "What are you doing here at Pinkerton?" ”
"Where's Cavlin?"
"She's on the other side," Hudson asked.
"That's OK." Augustus said to Pinkerton beside him.
There was a brief silence.
"I see."
"So, do you have any plans?" Augustus asked.
"Maybe I'm ......"
Heavy footsteps came from the hallway, and enemy reinforcements arrived.
"You must leave now!" Augustus shouted, he was close to the door and could use the laser gun, "I'll cover you, go!" ”
"No way!" Pinkerton shouted.
"Let's go!" Augustus said, "Take everyone else out!" ”
The agents appeared one after another, Augustus blinded them with a gun, they retreated, and then another group of agents came in, and Augustus did the same to blind them.
"Hurry up!" Augustus shouted.
He fired, fired, and kept firing, forcing the agents to retreat.
Then he heard the roar of the engine, which didn't sound like a normal vehicle. It must have been a big creature of great power, and its voice resounded through the space like an avalanche. Then a black car appeared, speeding towards the garage door.
Augustus continued to fire until the laser gun ran out of energy. Once the threat of lasers was gone, the group of agents rushed in like a storm. But the door was already open, the black car slipped away, and they didn't have time to shoot or stop it. Then the man in the suit strode in, his gaze scanning back and forth.
"Report!"
An agent next to him touched him. "Sir, you ought to be hidden. There could be one more target, or it could be two, and we haven't found it yet. ”
The man stroked back his blonde hair, raised his voice and said, "No matter who you are, come out, we have a hundred base SWAT officers on the way, surrender, we won't hurt you." Behind the man stood a man, it was Caflin, and he pointed a gun at Cavlin.
"Osk!" Hudson said as he walked out, pointing a gun at the man in the suit in front of him.
"Hudson?" The tall man said, "Is it really you?" ”
"Long time no see," Hudson said, "Captain of the Gendarmerie." ”
Then Augustus saw him emerge from between the vehicles, his hands in the air. The agents swarmed over and quickly twisted his hands behind his back.
The tall man, Osk, walked over with a smile on his face, "What an accident. ”
"Tell your people, lay down your arms." Hudson said.
Osk looked at the vehicles on either side of him, "Lay down your weapons. ”
The agents obeyed and placed their pistols and rifles on the ground.
"You can come out now, Augustus." Hudson shouted, keeping his eyes on Osk, "They won't hurt you." ”
Augustus couldn't think of any other choice, so he did as Hudson told him and walked out of his hiding place.
After he appeared, Oske turned to him, his green eyes sharp and frantic, "You are Augustus?" ”
Augustus nodded.
"Then this is Pinkerton."
Pinkerton walked out.
"Long time no see," Osker said, "Sheriff Pinkerton." ”
"What are you doing here?" Pinkerton asked.
Osk's eyebrows furrowed together, as if he was very confused. "What else can I do, of course I'm here to rescue you." Then, he put down the gun he was holding and said calmly, "Time is running out, we should go." ”
Augustus didn't know what he meant, maybe he was lying, but all the bodyguards around him lowered their guns, and he continued, "Follow me." Following in his footsteps, they came to the car, which was a jet car.
"Quick," Osker said, "get in the car!" ”
Augustus sat in the back seat of the jet, Pinkerton sat in the front passenger seat, Hudson and Carfrin returned to his car, and Oske held the steering wheel. As they drove out of the garage, the engine tremor caused Augustus to fight his upper and lower teeth, and as Oske accelerated, the force of the engine caused Augustus to crash into his seat and crooked his neck.
"I'm sorry," Orrick said, "this thing is a beast. ”
He turned a corner and walked through the complex, where Augustus could see all five buildings. That's the real SWAT at base, but no one dares to stand in front of this car. Some of the agents opened fire, but apparently the jet was bulletproof, and most of them didn't even raise their weapons.
On the turn, Orrick hit the brakes, Augustus was thrown hard into the front seat, and Pinkerton was thrown up.
"I'm sorry." He said it again.
"Why did we stop?" Cavlyn asked.
"For him." Pinkerton pointed to a man running towards the car, who was wearing the same type of leather jacket and hood. He appeared to have an electromagnetic knife on his wrist, but it quickly disappeared.
Osk opened the front door and jumped. "You come and drive."
The stranger climbed into the front seat, and Pinkerton jumped into the back seat and sat with Hudson. A second later, the engine started again and the car sped forward.
The stranger took off his hood, revealing a bald head, and he checked the vehicle's dashboard, "Did you get it?" ”
"Rescued." Oske said.
The stranger said to the two, "Hello, my name is Esker. ”
"Kavlin." She said, giving way to the outside and avoiding him.
"I'm Pinkerton."
Asker looked back at Augustus, then at Pinkerton, "Who is this?" ”
"Yes," Pinkerton said, "he's my friend and my partner." ”
"Esker?" Augustus was a little puzzled, "Could it be that you are ...... The one in Albert's diary? ”
Asker nodded slightly, and he called Hudson, "We're safe, you guys." ”
"Everything's fine," Asker nodded, and then he clicked on the touchscreen, one of which looked like a radar display, and the other showed a basic GPS map, but in more detail on the terrain. There are other displays that are also connected to the jet car's systems.
Asker clicked one by one, then plugged in something, adding an interfering sound on top of the humming of the engine.
"What's that?" Pinkerton asked.
"Stealth mode, I think," Asker said, "for helicopters." ”
"Helicopters?" Hudson pushed his glasses up and looked out the window.
"There were three helicopters coming towards us," Carfrin said, "but they weren't going to spot us, and Hudson picked a good car for us." ”
"Hudson's idea?" Pinkerton said.
"Hudson has a good eye," said Asker, "and let's go home and chat, but before you tell me what happened to you." ”
Pinkerton nodded, and they chatted in the car.
