Chapter V: Gathering Evidence of Crimes
Augustus and Pinkerton avoid cameras and sentry posts, scouting the perimeter of the building, and at this moment, Augustus hopes that Caflin will soon keep up with them, because Caflin is a good at cracking the door switch. I don't know what the alarm is all about, but the building guards are alert now: the Faryk operatives are patrolling the area.
"Why didn't that EMP* work?" Augustus asked.
"They have shields in their electronics," Pinkerton said warily, "and copper can do it, and they must have upgraded the equipment." ”
"That's too bad." Augustus said, "Hudson is not in touch now. ”
"And what's our plan?" Pinkerton looked around, "If you want me to say it, let's go inside." ”
"Good," said Augustus.
"Wait," Pinkerton pointed to that side, "there's a door in that building." ”
"Shall we go then?" Augustus asked, and Pinkerton nodded.
The two headed that way, avoiding surveillance and security, and when they reached the door, Augustus noticed the electronic lock on the door, which looked like it needed a fingerprint or biometrics, or some kind of code. Augustus took out another EMP*.
"Again?" Pinkerton said, "Are you just going to come here?" ”
"It's worth a try." Augustus pulled away* and slammed into the security console, but as before, nothing happened.
"Blocked." Pinkerton said.
"I've got to get a new trick." Augustus said.
"We've got to find a way to get in."
"Walk through the roof?"
"It's worth a try."
But it's hard to climb a building made entirely of glass, and it seems that the builders of this building took great pains. Eventually, they found a tree near the corner of the building, which they climbed and found themselves facing a balcony on the second floor, but with a very wide gap between them.
"Do you still have a zipline?" Pinkerton asked.
"I think I can jump over it."
"Really?"
"Old fellow," said Pinkerton, "if you fail, it's not easy to fall from here." ”
"Aren't you too?"
"Shh Pinkerton raised his hand and pointed underneath them.
Augustus looked over and saw a Furyk agent approaching. A smile welled up on Pinkerton's face, and Augustus knew he had a new idea, and he thought of it himself.
Pinkerton motioned for them to climb down, and they crept down a bit, and when they were in place, Pinkerton took out his *, and Augustus took it out. When the female agent walked right below them, they pounced on her at the same time.
She* fell, and before she could stand up and pull out her weapon, Augustus and Pinkerton both turned their eyes at her.
"Hands up!" Augustus said.
The other man complied, and Pinkerton took off her helmet. She is quite young, with straight blond hair, full lips, and a pointed chin. The badge on her chest reads "Klein."
"I've been looking for you both." She said.
Pinkerton takes out the pain he had previously held*. "Do you know what this is?"
She gasped and nodded.
Augustus laughed. "Do what we say, and we probably won't cook you."
"What are your plans?" She asked.
Augustus pressed * against her back. "Let's go."
She nodded, her hands held high. Augustus urged her forward. She walked slowly, slowly, but eventually they came to the door.
"Open it!" Pinkerton said.
She did not obey, and Augustus put his bow between her shoulder blades. "Turn it on."
Klein shook her head, the muscles in her jaw twitching, and then she placed her thumb on the scanner in front of the door and typed in the code. The lock made a soft sound, and the door opened.
"Do you know what you're going to do in there?" She asked.
"When you wake up, you'll find out what we've done." Pinkerton said, shooting a * at her.
Her body shuddered, and after two seconds, her eyes began to lose focus, and she fell to the ground. Augustus kicked her limp body. She was unconscious.
He opened the door, and Pinkerton followed him inside. The building is brightly lit and the interior is made of glass as much as the exterior. They walked down the hallway, lined with offices and rooms, Augustus clutching weapons in his hands, and through the system of contact lens traces, they saw the figures of the secret service officers everywhere on the glass windows, as if there were many people accompanying them.
At the end of the corridor, they came to a huge atrium. Augustus looked up at the ceiling, where there were several floors above it, escalators and stairs connected each floor, and from each floor there was an open space in the middle of the first floor.
"Which way?" Pinkerton asked.
"I don't know," said Augustus, "let's scout around first." ”
But after they had taken three or four steps in the bright atrium, the lights suddenly went out. The power supply system in the building was completely paralyzed as if with a heavy sigh.
"Someone cut off the power." Pinkerton said.
Augustus wasn't used to the sudden darkness for a moment, but his contact lenses suddenly showed one of his friends standing just a few feet away. "It could be Cavlin."
"I hope so." Pinkerton said.
The two of them decided to move on, away from the brightly lit environment, and Augustus felt that it was actually more secure, and his eyes were getting used to the darkness.
On the first floor, they found only a conference room and a large lounge area. They climbed the stairs to the second floor, but before they could get far, they deduced that there should only be the archives.
"It doesn't look like an archive here." Augustus said.
"Maybe in some other building?" Pinkerton asked, "I think I've seen those passages before." ”
"Let's go check it out."
So they went back to the first floor and walked through the atrium to the passageway. The door was unlocked and open.
Pinkerton looked at Augustus, who nodded. They entered the passageway, surrounded on all sides by glass, and they quickly passed through the passageway to the other side, into a new, smaller building.
Its exterior walls are still made of glass, but the inside is not. They walked through several corridors, and Augustus tried to open one of the doors, which was a slightly smaller lounge. But in the next hallway, they found a number of weapons, no, they were supposed to be the murder weapons, and among them they saw a familiar weapon in a shop window, which was Jaceline's switchblade.
"Looks like we're in the right place." Augustus said with a smile, then put on his gloves and picked up the knife.
"Let's move on." Pinkerton said, and the two moved on.
The next few houses were all filled with files and computers...... If they guessed correctly, there is one for every house.
"There's a room over there." Pinkerton said.
"There may be something in there," said Augustus, "and we might as well go and see it." ”
The two of them continued on their way, and finally found an office-like room, but it was empty, and a set of nightgowns worn by the girl was hanging on a hanger next to it, and the bed was a mess, with a little bloodstain, as if the owner of the room had been attacked, and it was just now.
Augustus came to the desk, "This is supposed to be the room of a female prosecutor. He pointed to the Rule of Law Daily on his desk.
"No," Pinkerton said, "I think maybe it's a forensic doctor," he said, and he came to the bookcase, pulled the shelf and walked inside.
Just then, the lights suddenly came on! Because of the glass building, this meant that people outside the building could easily see them, and there were many special agents in the woods.
"We've got to slip." Augustus said.
Pinkerton nodded, and they continued on, to the hallway at the edge, looking for another entrance, and eventually they found it, but the door had an electronic lock, the same one Clay had opened for them. But she was still unconscious outside, so they couldn't open the door.
"I heard someone coming." Pinkerton said.
Augustus heard it, too, and there was a sound of heavy footsteps at the door.
As soon as the door opened, the two shrank into a corner, and through the reflection of the glass, they saw a tall man in a charcoal black suit walking past with several uniformed secret service agents.
"How's it going?" The man asked.
"Sir, we couldn't find the person who attacked Prosecutor Roque." The head of the secret service said, "Some of the evidence about the silver fox has been stolen. ”
"Damn!" The man slammed the table, he looked around, and yelled, "Where's Klein! ”
"I don't know, sir."
"Go find him!"
"Yes!" Then, everyone walked down the hallway.
Augustus didn't know who the man was, but apparently he was the head of the place, and through the conversation, he learned that it seemed that they were not the only ones who were here today.
Pinkerton poked Augustus and pointed to the door. The door was open, but it was closing automatically, and they couldn't get through.
Augustus draws out *, launches. The bolt happened to get stuck in the rubber seal, preventing the door from closing completely.
"Let's go!" Augustus said softly, he was actually surprised.
The two ran to the passage door, and Augustus drew his crossbow bolts as he passed, and then closed the door behind him. The two run through the passage and discover that the passage is longer than the first, and actually starts to go downhill after a corner.
They descended step by step until the passage began to straighten out, and in front of them was another door that led halfway up the mountain.
"Go?" Pinkerton asked.
"A place to store physical evidence." Augustus took the female prosecutor's ID card and said, "I just found it under the newspaper, and it has the address there. ”
"That's great."
The two ran forward, and finally they came to a room, and he opened the door and looked inside. The hallway was empty, so they walked in.
Augustus looked around, and at this moment, let the vision system of his contact lenses alert him to all dangers, he quickly found the computer in the middle, swiped the ID card, he quickly tapped the keyboard, and after a while, several evidence cabinets were spread out.
Augustus left the place, and after packing the pieces of evidence in his bag, he called Pinkerton to the side, and the two ran towards the net, all the way down, and the two came to the underground garage.
The two found that there were groups of secret service personnel, and there were more than a dozen people standing inside.
"We have to lure them away." Augustus said, "Then get on the side of the car." ”
"That's all there is to it," Pinkerton said, looking around, "you throw the pain* at the group, I'm going to use this laser gun or something to blind the others, and run." ”
Augustus nodded, and the two of them set off on their moves.
