In the early summer of 2001, after the defense of my dissertation in May, there was still some time before the deadline to vacate the dormitory, but I had decided to move out of the school early, and I was tired of school life, and the curiosity and joy of "freedom" when I first entered the school were long gone, replaced by the hustle and bustle of day after day, the sense of boredom and boredom, and the desire to break through some kind of shackles was even stronger! Therefore, it is more appropriate to say "escape" than to move out. Secondly, I also wanted to find a solitary space that I could freely dispose of and decorate, so that I could gain a new level of "freedom". In addition, my place of work is far away in the city, from the Jingyuetan campus to the city, you need to take the 160 bus, in addition to the bus to get there, the daily round-trip time on the road takes 3 hours, rather than living in the school dormitory temporarily, it is better to plan early! Experience has taught me that since it is something that must be done sooner or later, it is better to do it as soon as possible!

I bought a newspaper from a newsstand outside the school that specializes in the release of housing rental information, and after some screening, I circled two houses in moderate locations, of course, also considering the cost, the quarterly rent is still within the affordable range, and the next step is to call the landlord and make an appointment to see the house. Of the two rental listings, I only contacted the landlord of one of them, and the other was inexplicably shut down. The next morning, I saw the old residential building with no ivy on the wall, the landlord was a kind old couple, both retired university teachers, and now a pair of children have settled in Sweden, they have not spent much time in China, this time they are returning to China for a short vacation, by the way, they sent a rental message, their house on Liberty Avenue was rented by a young couple before, and then moved to the suburbs because the place of work moved to the suburban university, Coincidentally, it was actually my school, presumably two young teachers. As soon as the house was vacated, I became the first prospective tenant to view the property! They told me it was better to rent for a long time because they don't go back to China very often, which of course I couldn't ask for.

They showed me the room, as soon as I entered the room, there was a short corridor on the right that led to the kitchen and balcony, the kitchen utensils were in place, and on the left side of the short corridor was the bathroom; Opposite the door is a slightly longer corridor, at the end of the left side is a balcony facing the master bedroom, which has a double bed, the ground is paved with old hardwood floors, the ceiling is newly installed ceiling lamps, on the right is a second bedroom, nearly half the size of the master bedroom, also paved with floors, a corner of the second bedroom is a very old Beijing brand 14-inch black and white TV, a thin layer of dust has fallen on it, it seems that this room is mostly used as a storage room! Although this old residential building has a history of 20 years, and the room is slightly old, but clean and tidy, at a glance, it seems that there are some decorative styles in the Republic of China period, furniture and electrical appliances are also readily available, the most satisfactory thing for me is that there is a large bookcase in the master bedroom, a writing desk and a very old Republic of China old Shanghai style study lamp, for me this is really a good place to live, so I immediately paid the deposit, the process of renting a house is very smooth. The only request I made was to move the bed out and leave only a mattress, and the old couple asked me why? I replied that it was better to sleep on the floor. When they heard this, they said, "This young man! He smiled at me and shook his head slightly. But then, for various reasons, the double bed was not moved, and I didn't bother about it.

The day after I returned to school, I started packing up, a set of luggage, a box of clothes, five boxes of books, an HP desktop computer, a Nikon camera, a guitar, and a bag of groceries. The moving car and the person who helped Lin Jun had already helped me get in touch, and even the moving fee was prepaid, just waiting for me to call to inform me. He couldn't help me move because he had already gone to the south to collect the wind, but that was enough for me to be grateful.

When I moved my belongings to my residence, I called Lin Jun to thank me.
