Starry sky at 5,200 meters above sea level
Rongbu-ji Temple is said to be the tallest temple in the world. When you walk to Rongbu Temple, you will face Mount Everest. The current Rongbu Temple was built after coming and going, and the original temple has been damaged by rolling stones and mud and sand on the mountain. It is about two or three miles from the current Rongbu Temple to the original temple, and the road leading to Mount Everest passes through the foot of the original temple. If you look up from the road, you can see the ruins of the temple in the middle of the mountain, and you can see huge stones rolling between the houses. This dilapidated scene is difficult to associate with the incense that flourished in the past.
In front of the highway is a large area of Pingchuan, where Base Camp No. 1 is located, which is where tourists see Mount Everest during the tourist season. Further on, there is another temple of Rongbu Temple, which the locals call Rongbu Shangji Temple. The building of Rongbu Shangji Temple is small and has a strong Tibetan architectural style. From the outside, the flannel cloth temple is very inconspicuous, but there is a hole in the temple. Tibetans who come to the Rongbu Temple to offer incense generally go to the Shangbu Temple to worship the Buddha after the incense is first given. Therefore, although the Rongbu Temple is small, the incense is very vigorous.
Further on, the climb begins. The hill is not long, but it is steep and treacherous. At the foot of the hillside is a mess of rocks, and above the hillside is a field of snow. After turning the corner of this hillside, it is a flat river, the wind is very strong on the flat river, and the sound of the wind is tight in the ears. At the end of the river is a monument at an altitude of 5,200 meters.
On one side of the monument is a huge garbage dump, and beyond that is a movable railing across the road. Behind the railing is a huge rock that stops for tourists. On the other side of the stele is a beautifully built public toilet.
When Geng Xin and I arrived here, it was almost the season of mountain closure, and the border armed police and scenic spot management personnel stationed here had already evacuated, otherwise we would have to stop there and not be able to enter Mount Everest. It was getting late when we arrived, and we decided to camp here and head into the mountains early tomorrow morning. The houses on the hillside are all guarded by the iron general, but fortunately there is a tool room next to the public toilet, because the door lock has been broken, the door is not locked, so that Geng Xin and I can take shelter from the wind and snow here.
On the inner side of the room, by the wall of the house, a simple bunk was neatly laid out of wooden planks, large enough for the two of us to hold the bedding rolls. It looks like a place where the staff of the scenic spot rests during the tourist season. The windows in the room were intact, so tight that not a single wind could let in. Behind the unlocked door, there were several large stones, as if they had been used by the original occupants to block the door. The house was littered, littered with empty drink bottles and food boxes. Geng Xin and I cleaned up the house, grouped the mess into a pile, and threw it into the garbage heap outside. We laid out the sleeping mats and sleeping bags, and stacked the rest of the house neatly, so that there was a comfortable little world.
Geng Xin and I set up a small table in a wooden box and took the food out of our backpack and put it on the table. Sitting on a simple wooden bed, with the lights on, eating small cans, and drinking two pots. The walls around are snow-white, and the floor is spotless, which is really good.
I was undressing and getting ready to go to bed when Geng Xin, who was out for a walk, suddenly let out a loud cry outside, telling me to get out quickly. I didn't know what was going on, so I put on a down jacket and rushed out in a panic. I rushed out of the room, and the wind outside rushed in like waves, and I tightened my down jacket, but the cold in the wind seemed to bypass my clothes and go straight into the bones. Geng Xin stood in the open space under the steps, looking up at the night sky. Geng Xin said that it is a beautiful star. As soon as I looked up, I was instantly shocked.
Although there is no moon, the night sky is clear, and Mount Everest is clearly visible not far away. The rough and strong lines, the white velvet snow above the head, and the mountain peaks guarded on both sides pointed straight to the sky like black swarthy axes. The sky seemed to be held by these mountains overhead, and in the sky overhead, countless stars were twinkling, densely so dense that it was impossible to distinguish. I've never seen so many stars. The light of these stars intertwined, reflecting the sky and the earth, and the layers of light seemed to flicker separately, and seemed to be gathered together by an invisible thing. Some of these stars are as bright as jade, some are dazzling, some are unblinking, some flash and then disappear. These stars shine on people, making people feel the mystery of this light, the wonder of light. Those shining starlights come and go, shuttling in the sky, making people feel a kind of pierced charm, a melody that travels through the world. The farthest starlight is far away in the sky, and the nearest starlight is on the top of the mountain, and people can touch those stars as long as they stand on the top of the mountain.
On this night, at the foot of Mount Everest, the strange stars made me feel like I was in the universe. The stars are so close, they are as close as they are around. The light of the stars enveloped me, and I could even feel the breath of the stars, the body temperature of the stars. At this moment, I forgot about the cold. There is only starlight in my world, the starlight that hangs over me and shines in my dreams.
