313, Dementors
The train jolted suddenly, then came to a slam halt. There was a thumping sound in the carriage, apparently luggage from other carriages falling off the rack. Then, without warning or notice, all the lights went out, and the whole carriage was plunged into complete darkness.
"What's going on?" Ron asked, cowering behind Harry's back.
"Alas!" Harry sighed, "Ron, you're stepping on my feet. β
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Ron said embarrassedly.
Harry felt his way back to his seat.
"Is our train broken?"
"I don't know."
There was an explosion outside, and Harry dimly saw Ron's silhouette, and he wiped the corner of the glass clean and looked out from there.
"There's something moving there." Ron said, "I think they're coming this way." β
The door of the carriage suddenly opened, and someone collapsed in pain on Hasha's foot.
"I'm sorry, do you know what's going on? Oh, I'm sorryβ"
"Hello, Neville." Harry said as he groped his hand in the darkness, then pulled Nivelle up at his coat.
"Harry, is that you? What happened? β
"I don't know! Sit downβ"
Outside there were loud hissing and cries of pain.
"I'm going to ask the driver what's going on?" Ron said.
Harry felt her walk by. He heard the door open again, and another cry of pain.
"Quietly!" Suddenly, a hoarse voice sounded.
The man who had not spoken since they had entered the carriage, who was lying motionless in the corner, suddenly spoke. Lupin, the new professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts, had a brief conversation with each other when they first entered the carriage, so they knew each other's identities.
Professor Lupin had been sleeping for most of the time since he got in the car, and now he was finally awake.
Duten could hear the sound of action on his side. He didn't say anything, just sat quietly.
Suddenly, there was a slight explosion, and then the trembling lights lit up the carriage, and Professor Lupin held a lot of small flames. They illuminated his tired face, and his eyes looked cautious.
"Don't move where you are." He said in a hoarse voice as he slowly stood up and placed the torch in front of him. Then he walked to the door of the carriage, and just as he was about to reach out to open the door, the door opened by itself again.
Standing in front of the door, illuminated by the torch in Lupin's hand, was a man who reached the height of the ceiling. The face is completely covered by a hood.
Harry's gaze shifted down, and he saw what made his stomach contract the most, a hand protruding from his coat, that hand was shiny, gray-colored, thin, scarred, like something dead rotting in the water...... This is only seen in the moment of light. The creature in the coat seemed to sense Harry's gaze, and the hand suddenly retracted into a black object.
The inside of the hat, I don't know what it was, was long, slowly gasping for air, as if to suck in something instead of the air around it.
A sharp chill enveloped them, and Harry felt it difficult to breathe, and the chill entered through his skin, to his chest, and then to his heart...... Harry's vision was blurred, a sharp pain like a pinprick hit the scar on his forehead, his headache was like it was about to crack, he struggled in the cold, his ears rustled like water, he seemed to be dragged down, and he roared louder.
Then from a distance, he heard screams, terrible, terrifying. Screaming for help, he wanted to help, no, who was that, he tried to move his arm, but couldn't...... A thick white mist swirled around him, swirling up his bodyβ
"Almost, you're here to send fugitives, not to deal with students. I think Professor Dumbledore will be unhappy if you continue like this. As Professor Dumbledore, I may not be able to deal with all of you, but if I deal with you alone, I don't think even the Ministry of Magic will protect you. β
Du Teng felt that he had almost watched the play, and suddenly stood up and said to the monster at the door.
The monster was slightly stunned, then looked up at Du Teng.
"What, do you still want to do it to me? Professor Lupin, I should be fine if I fight back. β
Du Teng chuckled and slowly drew his wand.
Lupin looked back at Du Teng and shook his head slightly.
"If you can, I don't want you to do it, I've heard of you, Du Teng, I know you're strong, but you have to understand that they are...... O guards there. β
"Of course I do."
Duten laughed.
"I've been thinking I've been meeting them for a long time, isn't this the best time? They actually attacked the students, this is a big taboo in the wizarding world, if he is really allowed to continue to do it, Professor Dumbledore will be very angry, I also think about Professor Dumbledore, he is so old after all...... So. β
Du Ten suddenly stepped forward, and a faint light began to appear on the tip of his wand, and the air around him began to flow rapidly, as if it had life, and began to converge towards the tip of his wand.
"I've developed two new spells this holiday, and I'd love to get a trial report from you."
Du Teng smiled, and the tip of his wand slowly pointed to the door, pointing at the monster floating in the doorway. The room fell silent, Lupin didn't know how to stop Duten, and the other students had no say at all, they could only stare at Duten and confront the monster.
The monster seemed to be thinking about Du Teng's words, but Du Teng's wand was the last straw that broke the camel's back, and the monster looked at Du Teng's wand and finally chose to retreat. Its body fluttered backwards and gradually left the carriage, and Harry fell to the ground with a thud, his body twitching slowly, looking quite scary.
"Ron, give Harry a piece of chocolate."
"Huh? Oh! Oh okay, I, I got it. β
Ron froze, then snapped awake, turned around and began rummaging through the chocolate from the snack and shoved it into Harry's mouth to help him eat it.
Duten stared directly at the monster.
"Don't you want to leave? Do you really want to grow my spell? β
Du Teng took a step closer, and the monster slowly retreated, as if to gauge Du Teng's danger. Perhaps also considering Professor Dumbledore's attitude, it finally chose to retreat, and as soon as it turned, it flew off into the distance.
The people in the carriage relaxed, the train quickly resumed its movements, and the lights in the carriage came on.
"Harry! Harry! Are you okay? β
Ron slapped Harry in the face.
It took Harry a moment to wake up.
"Whatβwhat's wrong?" Harry opened his eyes and looked at the rest of the room, noticing that he was lying on the floor.
"Are you alright?" Ron asked nervously.
"Oh." Harry hurried to the side of the door, and the hated animal was gone, "What's going on?" Where's that thing? Who screams? β
"No one screamed." Ron said he was more nervous.
"But I hear screamsβ"
A loud popping sound almost made them jump.
Turning his head, Professor Lupin was making six large pieces of chocolate into pieces.
"Here." He said to Harry, handing him a particularly large piece and saying, "Eat." β
Harry picked up the chocolate, but didn't eat it. "What's that?" He asked Lupin.
"A monster, a Dementor." Professor Lupin said that he now distributes the chocolates to everyone, "the guards in the Azk class." β
Everyone stared at him, and Professor Lupin crumpled the empty chocolate wrapper and put it in his pocket.
"I'm going to talk to the conductor about something, what's your problem...... Just ask Du Teng, he should know. β
After Lupin finished speaking, he left, and everyone turned their attention to Du Teng again.
"How so...... This thing is called a Dementor, and it is the guard of Azkaban, a magical creature. Dementors are blind and can only distinguish people by smell and feelings, and they like to suck hope and courage away from people, while making their surroundings cooler. The most terrifying ability of these guys is the mouth, their mouth can suck people's souls, so you have to be careful not to encounter the Dementors alone.
Like Harry had done before, it was the Dementors who sucked the good things out of your heart, any good feelings, any happy memories that were sucked out of it, and if it did, it would live on you for a long time, and eventually make you like it - soulless and full of evil. β
Du Teng said slowly, the room was silent, and everyone looked at him silently, obviously frightened by what he said.
"Rest assured, though, Dementors are not without weaknesses, powerful spells can defeat them, and spells full of love and courage can dispel them. Professor Lupin should be able to teach us how to banish Dementors. β
Du Teng said with a smile.
"Why don't you teach us how to defeat the Dementors? Shouldn't such a dangerous monster be destroyed directly? β
Ron asked, puzzled.
"Of course not, in fact the Dementors are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Magic, and they are responsible for guarding Azkaban. You should know what Azkaban is, right? Ron, you know for sure. β
"Yes, I, I know ......"
Ron nodded obscurely.
"So, they are useful and cannot be killed casually. Otherwise, why do you think I would have forced him away instead of killing him directly? It's not that hard to kill a Dementor, but it's not something anyone can do, so don't try to learn this spell from me, I won't give it to you. β
"Huh?"
Harry and Ron let out an unwilling shout.
They do have the intention of learning spells from Du Teng, and now they are directly blocked, of course they are dissatisfied.
A few moments later, Professor Lupin returned, bringing the news that the train would arrive in ten minutes, and everyone began to prepare.
Pack your things, pack your luggage, clean up the trash, put away your pets and wands, and so on and so forth.
Harry and the others were called away by Professor McGonagall shortly after they got out of the car, and Duten returned to the Hufflepuff team.
Follow the team to the conference hall, which is also where the students eat. Today is the annual orientation day, and the traditional sorting ceremony is of course essential.
Everyone waited for a while, until the professors were seated, Harry and the others returned, and Professor McGonagall returned.
The sorting ceremony was soon completed, and it was time for the leader to speak, and Professor Dumbledore stood up.
Professor Dumbledore, though aloof, also came across as energetic. He had a beard, gray hair several feet long, a very hooked nose, and half-moon shaped glasses, and he was considered the greatest wizard of the day, one of the only two people of all good faith in the wizarding world to be able to defeat Voldemort, and the other was undoubtedly Harry Potter, the savior.
"You're welcome." Dumbledore said, candlelight shining on his beard, "Welcome back to Hogwarts for the new school year, I have a few things to talk about, as one of them is more serious, and I want to say it before you are drawn to the rich dinner......"
Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued, "Just as you were searched on the Hogwarts trains, our school is now hosting the Dementors of Azkban, who will be here on a mission for the Ministry of Magic. He paused.
The students immediately chattered and discussed, and the discussion roared, and the previous experience on the train scared many people. Not to mention the first-year students, many of the older students are also intimidated by these guys. Now that these Dementors are actually stationed at the school, the students can't help but worry.
"They'll be guarding the entrance to the lobby." After a pause, Dumbledore waited until everyone was almost done talking before continuing, "During the time they were on guard, I solemnly declared that no one was allowed to leave the school without permission. Dementors won't be fooled by all sorts of tricks and costumes, and it's useless to rely on invisibility coats. β
This was meant for Harry, who was the only one who had the Cloak of Invisibility.
The Headmaster gently continued, "Dementors are inherently incapable of understanding begging and excuses, so I warn you not to give others a reason to hurt you. I'll let the best students, the best of our new realm, make sure you don't bother with the Dementors. β
Percy sat on a stool a few seats away from Harry. Puff up your chest and look around noticeably.
Dumbledore paused again, looking at the hall solemnly. No one moved, no one spoke.
"And one more happy news." He continued, "We are delighted to welcome two new teachers to our school this year. First of all, Professor Lupin, who was already willing to take on the course of teaching anti-black witchcraft. There was a very cold applause from the audience. Only those in the same carriage as Professor Lupin clapped vigorously. Harry was one of them, and Professor Lupin looked particularly lame standing next to the well-dressed teachers.
Speaking of which, Hogwarts' Defence Against the Dark Arts is also ill-fated, and today, when the Dark Lord is about to threaten the wizarding world again, Defence Against the Dark Arts does not have a teacher who can teach all year round, I have to say, this is also a kind of sadness in the wizarding world.
