Chapter 127: Tape
Gotham Central Bank. Fire? Correct? Wen?? ο½?ο½?ο½?οΌ?
Roy and Barbara follow the police to the place and find the safe that corresponds to the key. I opened the lock and pulled open the drawer, revealing only a genuine videotape.
The dark cover looks like a movie that looks like it's been around for a long time from the poster, and it's called "Shadow Blade".
Roy took the old tape from the investigators, pulled the box out of the package and examined it, saying, "The film has been washed off, and whatever it contains, it's obviously not an outdated film tape." β
He opened the box, and there was a tape inside.
"Now all we have to do is find a tape recorder." Roy shook the tape in his hand and said, "Let's see who the hell would want to lock a roll of recordings in a bank safe." β
As he stood up, he noticed the strange look on Barbara's face.
"What's wrong?"
Barbara took the cover of the tape and said, "I didn't expect to see it again...... Shadowblade, which was one of my favorite movies with James when I was a kid." β
Little James? Gordon, with his father, Director Gordon, sharing his name, is another tragedy for the Gordon family. In contrast to his heroic father, who was the chief of police, James Jr. is an all-evil murderer and a serious mental disorder who is currently being held in Arkham Mental Hospital...... At least that's how it should be.
Gordon covered his face: "I'm sorry...... Babs, I should have told you, but...... I just don't want you to worry about ......"
Barbara looked at her father in astonishment, and for a moment she felt that he looked so many years older.
She patted her father's back distressedly and asked, "What happened?" Father? β
"Little James...... James Jr. ......," said Gordon, "is no longer in Arkham." β
Barbara's pupils shrank: "What? β
Gordon sighed, "The night before yesterday, Arkham called me to inform me that little James had suddenly disappeared...... There was nothing wrong with his guards, and there was nothing suspicious in the cell where he was being held, but he just disappeared. The only explanation is that he must have someone out there, or something that had robbed him for some purpose......"
Roy listened quietly, and thought quickly.
This can't be a coincidence.
The bishop said that the departure of the Fallen Knight was just the beginning of the prologue, and now, little James, who has been imprisoned for so long? Gordon was let out by someone.
Detectives can't always rely on coincidences, which are possibilities that are considered when there is no other way out. So he's pretty certain that it's not a coincidence.
Little James? Gordon fled, but he seemed to have deliberately left clues in an attempt to show everyone that he had regained his freedom.
But not only that, but he also tried to leave something more, which is why he left a roll of recordings in the video box of Shadow Blade.
At the Gotham Police Station, the Gordon father and daughter stand with Roy, listening to the voice coming out of the tape.
At a cursory glance, only a series of noises can be heard. If you look closely, you can hear a percussion sound that looks like you're stepping on a beat, and a series of cacophonies mixed in with it.
"What is this?" Gordon asked, frowning.
Barbara said, "I want to hear it...... The sound of a moving train. β
"It's not a train." "It's similar, but this kind of echo can only be found in a closed underground, so it should be a subway." β
"So he pointed us to a certain subway line? That's nice. Gordon rubbed his temples, "There are countless subway lines in Gotham, how do we know which one?" β
"So he must have left clues that could provide more information." Roy said, "Do some audio analysis, and you should be able to see something better." But if you don't mind, I'd like to go it alone with Babs Seed. β
Something strange came out of Barbara's throat.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, it's just ......," she said, hesitating, "...... It's just the first time you've called me that. β
"Oh, then you'll probably have to get used to it soon."
Gordon said to his daughter solemnly, "Well, I know there's no way I'm going to stop you from insisting on your brother...... But you should know that he is very dangerous, and you can't take it lightly and don't get too close to him. Call me as soon as anything goes wrong, okay? β
"I know, I know, Dad." Barbara gave her father a big hug, "Love you, Dad." β
Back at the Winged Knight's stronghold, Barbara immediately began to begin audio analysis. She's much more efficient than the Gotham Police Department's technicians, and it won't take long to separate the noise.
While waiting, Roy stared at Barbara for a long time, and suddenly said, "I'm sorry, Xiaoba." β
Barbara wondered, "Why?" β
"I'm pretty sure...... It's the Bishop, he's taken over all the crimes in Gotham now, and it's ......easy to get your brother out of Arkham," he said, "and his motive must have been to target me." When I fought him in the past, I didn't have anyone around, so he couldn't use that against me. And now...... It's all my fault. β
"What's wrong? Is it wrong that you shouldn't have met me? Barbara asked rhetorically.
Roy was silent. She continued: "Actually, I should have said sorry too. I know why my brother is doing a blast in our apartment because he wants to get my attention. He used to say that I fascinated him...... He knew I was a bat girl. So if you feel that it is your responsibility for the bishop to release him, then now we are even. β
She took Roy's hand and said seriously, "Also, I want you to know one thing, that is, no matter what you have in life, I will never regret meeting you." β
Roy was stunned, his perceptive eyes staring straight at Barbara's delicate face. At this moment, he suddenly felt that she was so beautifulβhe had never had such a throbbing before, no matter how dazzling a woman he had encountered.
"Thank you." He said, "Me too." β
Barbara's face was slightly red, turned her face sideways, and changed the subject: "Ah...... The analysis is almost ready, come and listen. β
She separated the noise of different frequencies and played them separately.
"Well, now I can hear the subway too." Barbara said.
"There's also a sound that has just been enveloped by the sound of the subway." "It sounds like some kind of music." β
Barbara knocked on the door: "That's right! I've heard this rhythm. When James and I were in elementary school, my mother would always take us to the subway at the same station, and there was a drink shop below that station that was still in operation more than a decade later. The store was renovated the year before last, and every morning a piece of music was played to solicit customers...... I'm pretty sure that's the melody. β
"Good." Roy nodded, "So that subway station is where we're going next." β
