Chapter 128: The Subway Line
By the time the Winged Knight and Batgirl arrived at the subway station, it was already late at night, and the subway line had stopped operating. All the shops were closed, except for one half-closed one, which was glowing with white fluorescent lights.
The subway station, which was usually crowded and shoved, is now deserted, and there is not the slightest light on the platform. Although the door to the underground was closed, it was clear that a single door could not easily lock them out.
The two walked up the stairs to the empty platform and looked around with their night vision goggles on.
"The clue James left must be here." Barbara whispered.
Roy nodded, looked around, and his gaze lingered in a corner.
There was a man, a man. He was half-lying on a sheet spread on the floor tiles, a brown-colored quilt covering his body, and a pair of shining eyes cautiously looked at the two men in black in front of him. A long, black, leather box was tossed on the side of his sheets.
"Violin case." Roy whispered, "Street violinist." If he'd been here, he'd probably seen something. ”
After speaking, he approached the wandering artist in the corner and said, "Don't be nervous, we'll just ask you a few questions." ”
The man's eyes rolled back and forth over the two of them, pointed to the dark subway tunnel, and said, "What are you looking for...... It should be in there. ”
The two looked at each other, and Barbara asked, "How do you know what we're looking for?" ”
He shook his head, "I don't know what you're looking for. But last night, around this time, I saw a man, a very young, flashlight-wielding man, walking in with a suitcase. He went in for about half an hour before he came out, but the box in his hand was gone, and I guess that was what you were looking for. ”
Roy said, "Thank you." ”
The two men made their way along the railway line towards the interior of the tunnel. After about ten minutes of travel, they found what they were looking for.
Two columns of bombs placed side by side on both sides of the railroad tracks, the shells of which are quite delicate. Through the transparent slot on the case, you can see the red numbers on the LCD screen inside, and there are probably more than eight hours left. On the right-hand side of the bomb casing is a mobile phone taped to make it stand out against the backdrop.
The phone is powered off. Roy unhooked his phone and pressed the power button. After turning on the screen, only about three to five seconds later, a text message reminder popped up on the screen.
The text message reads: "Dear sister, it looks like you've found my first gift, so congratulations, you did live up to my expectations and completed the first part of the big adventure." You should know, though, that this is just the beginning, and from the second you see the text message, a new level begins. ”
As soon as the words fell, there was a slight "drop" from the bomb, and the bright red electronic numbers on the LCD screen began to beat wildly, and there were only three minutes left in less than a breath.
"Hell!" Barbara Road.
Without saying a word, Roy calmly crouched down and used the batrang to pry open the shell of the bomb, revealing the complex circuitry inside.
"The good news is that if this bomb had been planted here last night, it must have been violently shaken by the subway all day." "That means a slightly larger action won't trigger it to explode." ”
"Will you defuse a bomb?" Barbara asked unexpectedly. She taught Roy a lot of various spy and agent skills, but she didn't teach bomb disposal.
"It's not an expert, it's too complicated." Roy stared at the bomb's line with a frown, and said, "But it's impossible to escape from the explosion in three minutes, and there's no other way than to try." ”
"Or there's another way."
Barbara's words made Roy look at her in surprise.
"Ask my sister for help directly."
"You'll ......"
"Of course, sister can't forget, what's so difficult about dismantling and connecting circuits or something?" Barbara pouted, "But you didn't even ask me if I would." ”
Roy was a little embarrassed and stepped out of the way: "Hmm...... Then there you go. ”
Barbara's ability to defuse the bomb seems to be quite good, and the bomb was successfully defused within three minutes. When the red number on the last bomb stopped at the position of "2" and did not move, Barbara's whole person relaxed as if she was deflated, wiped a handful of sweat and said: "See, my sister has already calculated the time, and she knows that the time is just ......right."
"Well done." Roy faintly complimented.
The white phone that Barbara tucked into her multi-purpose belt rang. She pulled out her phone, and the number on it showed "unknown" again.
She pressed the speakerphone button and asked in a cold voice, "Hello?" It's James, right? ”
From there came a crisp and clean young man's voice, completely undisguised: "Hey, it's me, old lady." You've just done a great job, I knew you could, and that's what I find fascinating about you. ”
"Maybe you should have taken the medicine, and it looks like you're stopping it again?" Barbara said in a cold voice, "I can hear you, your voice is high-pitched." ”
"Oh, you think you're funny, I like the way you're freaked." The voice on the other side gradually lowered, and said like a sneer, "It's not difficult to make you scared anymore." What I have is the method. ”
"What a coincidence, the most important thing on my side is the method." Barbara sneered, "You can let the horses come." ”
James laughed twice and said, "Funny, funny girl!" You won't be laughing for long, though. Now, let's move on to the next step, and step by step you'll get a chance to face me, but not yet. Listen up, great detective, be careful not to drown out in letters. You're smart, you're going to find out what the clues are, then I'll be waiting for you in the final session, dear sister. ”
That's the end of the call.
"Don't be overwhelmed by letters, it's a riddle." Roy said, "A very old English riddle. ”
Barbara stroked her forehead: "I know, an old riddle, 'where is the most letters', and the riddle is the post office." ”
"The question is, which post office?" Roy said.
"This ...... I probably know that too. Barbara took a deep breath and said, "My mother used to go to the post office all the time, sometimes to send letters to relatives outside of Gotham, and sometimes to receive letters from them. Each time a letter is sent at a fixed post office...... It was only two minutes away from my dad's house. I dare to pack the ticket, and the clue James pointed to is in that post office. ”
