Before that happened, it was the second most enjoyable day in Bill Roach's life. The first and happiest day was shortly before his family broke up, when his father found a wasp's nest on the roof and asked Bill to help him smoke the wasp out with a cigarette. His father was not good outdoors and had no dexterity on his hands and feet, but after Bill looked up the encyclopedia about wasps, they drove together to a grocery store and bought some sulfur, put it in a feeder, and smoked it under the eaves, and finally smoked the wasps to death.
