Text: Chapter VII

Descend the ramp of a highway and drive along a bumpy gravel road for a distance, and through a forest of trees, you will find a large wasteland that is out of step with the surrounding countryside. In the center of the wasteland stands a three-story mansion. A trail splits the ankle-length weeds and winds from the front door of the lonely house to the gravel road where the car drives.

The rain was pouring down. There was not a single light to be seen. Occasionally, lightning streaked through the air, briefly leaving a large jagged trail over the plains.

When Ziang parked the car at the edge of the wasteland, a candle came from the window of the attic of the lonely house, and when another lightning bolt streaked across the night sky, the candlelight disappeared into the darkness along with the lightning.

"It's so atmospheric." Steven cocked his collar and stepped out of the car, "Someone whose name isn't Emilia, let's just wait outside together." ”

Ziang was about to throw out a few pieces of rune paper to keep Emilia out of the rain, but before he could make a move, a barrier of purple light spread out from above the car, covering a large area of the ground.

Emilia pushed the door open and took a few steps forward, distancing herself from the other three.

The sound of tires running over the gravel road could be heard from the woods that everyone had passed earlier.

"This old immortal." Steven turned his head to look at the exit of the woods, "I can finally ask." ”

A white van emerged from the woods and stopped under the purple barrier.

"What the hell are you up to again?!" Steven shouted as he walked briskly to the van, "There's no reason to contain it at night, it's still in this kind of ghost place!" He opened the driver's cab door and looked at Kurt, "One of the new team members you're looking for is something I haven't seen yet, and there's another one I can't even understand what he's saying!" Please, this time, please don't come up with that stupid plan to act and analyze and die at the same time. ”

Kurt calmly looked at Steven in the roar. After the other party finished speaking, he turned the car keys and turned off the van. "The deceased was an ordinary maintenance worker, and his spirit should be very ordinary. Otherwise, you can catch it now, and all your worries will be dispelled. ”

"This-" Steven's tone immediately softened, he raised a finger and tapped it in the air, "It depends!" If it's really not awesome...... Actually, you don't need to! Isn't there Emilia? ”

Kurt pulled a small syringe out of his coat pocket and threw it at Steven.

Steven didn't immediately pick up what the other party had thrown, but let it fly in front of him.

However, the syringe did not fall to the ground. It was enveloped by a blue ball of light midway through, hovering beside Steven.

Steven raised an eyebrow. "If I don't take this one, your handsomeness will be instantly embarrassing." He turned his head to look at the syringe, "What's that?" What is it for? ”

"There's a civilian in the house." Kurt grabbed an umbrella from the seat next to him and stepped out of the cab, "Female civilians, if that motivates you." For her safety, I'll have to get her out of the scene first, but she probably won't be cooperating with you. If necessary, a little extreme means can be used. ”

"What do you mean? I have to go in too? Steven pointed at Amilia, "Aren't we responsible for applauding her?" ”

"Emilia will do positive expressions on the outside of the house to draw the spirit out." Kurt turned his head and glanced at Ziang, "The three of you go into the house together to find someone." Beware of the spirit's defenses. ”

"Defensive measures?" Steven turned his head to look at the lonely house in the clearing, "Oh, defenses. He nodded in understanding.

"Didn't you say that a mechanic would join us?" Lanny asked.

"Yes, yes, I'm here." Dylan reached out of the partition window of the van, and his hand was holding a couple of headset communicators, "Dylan Bansley, it's a pleasure to meet you." I can report to you in real time on the data I detected, if necessary. After all, you're the professionals. He spoke very clearly and coherently, as if he had rehearsed it several times in advance.

A cloud of orange light enveloped the communicators Dylan was holding, bringing them to Lanny.

"Why didn't he ......" Lannie pointed to the back door of the van.

Kurt rubbed his forehead. "I'm afraid of losing my sense of security." He responded.

Ziang grabbed the two communicators, and then looked at Emilia who was standing alone in front of her, "That, you guys...... Or, I can do that too...... Yes, that's it, that's it. He muttered as he walked over to Emilia.

Steven gave a look of disdain. "Where did you get these people?" He looked at Kurt and said.

Before Ziang could get closer, a purple ball of light enveloped one of the communicators in his hand and flew towards Emilia with it.

Ziang stopped in his tracks, nodded, and turned to leave.

"Thank you."

Amilia's whisper made Ziang stop again. He made an awkward turn and tiptoed to Emilia's side, deliberately keeping his distance so that he was in the back of his eye.

"You're welcome." Ziang didn't look at Emilia, but kept his gaze parallel to the other party's, "I saw that you gave the communicator back to Chloe, so I thought, you must need one." ”

Emilia didn't respond.

"I'm sorry...... About the things on the roof. Ziang continued, "I wanted to help so much that I ......."

Emilia still didn't mean to speak.

"That trick of yours," Ziang shook his hand awkwardly, "the one used on the hair, I used to look at another person......"

"That's what she taught me." Emilia whispered.

Ziang turned his head sharply and looked at Emilia.

Emilia pinned the communicator to her ear. Taking advantage of this movement, she turned her head slightly in the opposite direction of Ziang's position.

"Oh my God, I didn't even know you met." Ziang turned his toes and took a small step closer to the other party, "No, look at what I said, of course you've seen it." Ziyi, she often participates in spiritual summits, and she is also famous, and you are even more ...... Miss Walton. ”

Ziang reached out and patted the top of his head a few times to express his dissatisfaction with his lack of vocabulary.

"Hey! Where are you going?! Behind Ziang, Steven shouted, "Aren't you the ones who organized this operation?" ”

Kurt held his umbrella and continued walking towards the woods, not responding to Steven's words.

"Guys, I've detected some changes in consciousness." Dylan's voice came down the communicator, "From the door of the house, it's approaching us." If it's convenient, also ask Miss Mason to move two steps to the right. ”

"Yes," said Lannie, "but why?" ”

"Let there be a ...... between that thing that is close and me I mean, it's easier to do the next thing. Dylan coughed, "The other party's expression level is Beta Seventeen. In order not to provoke resistance from the other party before making your intentions known, it is best for you to express yourself negatively for the time being. The specific readings can be viewed on the bracelet. Of course, you know this better than I do. The more he spoke, the quieter it became.

"Uh, what bracelet?" Ziang asked suspiciously.

From the door of the lonely house floated slowly a two-pronged candlestick made of brass. There are no candles on the candlesticks, and there is a short fixed needle tip in each of the two circular slots.

A thinly dressed woman followed behind the menorah. She lowered her head and folded her hands in front of her. The black shirt she was wearing had been soaked by the rain and had stuck to her, making her look unusually thin.

"Yo-" Steven let out a strange cry as he pointed at the approaching woman, "Yo-" he called out again, and took a few steps towards the woman.

The menorah stopped moving a few steps away from Emilia and was suspended in mid-air at her eye level. The woman who had been following her stopped a little farther away.

Emilia held up a hand.

A purple glow appeared above the woman's head. However, before the barrier could be formed, a wave from the candlestick washed away the light.

Emilia frowned and took a half-step forward. The rain near this foot immediately splashed out in all directions.

"Oh! Oh! Wait a minute! Steven yelled, "Don't get so excited. At the very least, let me take the woman away first. Also, wait until I'm far away before we start fighting. ”

Colorful lights emerge between the candelabra and Emilia, conjuring up the image of a man. The image looks like a human head made by Steven at Harrods Tower, except that the details of the characters are much clearer and more complete.

"A virtual body mimicry? Interesting. Dylan said on the other end of the communicator, "It can't touch you in this state." If the rain no longer passes through its body, you should be careful. ”

The man made up of the light looked to be in his mid-thirties. He wears a maintenance man's outfit, has a well-proportioned build, and has strong exposed muscles. His not-so-kind face had a short, thick beard, and a furrowed brow that squeezed out many wrinkles at the corners of his eyes. Aside from the glow he emitted, he looked almost indistinguishable from a normal person.

"It seems more polite to talk like this." A hoarse voice came from the man's head, but his lips didn't move, "Don't be so rude, dear," he turned his head stiffly to look at the woman standing a few steps away, "Come and say hello." ”

The woman staggered over to the man and nodded slightly. The rain-soaked bangs hung down messily, making it impossible to see the expression on her face.

"Good." The man reached out and touched the woman's face.

The hand made of light did not touch the woman's cheek, but passed through it without a sense of substance.

"For your reference," Steven turned to look at Lanny, "he's a bastard like that, and I'm overly romantic." ”

Emilia raised her right hand upwards. A blade-shaped purple light followed the hand's trajectory, cutting through the rain curtain and dispersing the man's rays before flying towards the candlestick.

A wave shook the purple blade, sending it past the candlestick and toward the ground, cutting a trail through the weeds.

Steven stepped forward quickly, trying to get close to the woman standing with her head bowed.

The scattered light reunited in front of Steven, conjuring up the silhouette of a humanoid figure again, forcing Steven to stop. Unlike the previous ones, this silhouette has an extremely rough appearance. It has no facial organs, an unusually long upper body, and disproportionately thick limbs. The most unusual thing is that it can visibly touch the real thing - the rain slides down its shoulders and drip onto its huge instep.

Steven adjusted his stance and threw a punch at the silhouette of the humanoid. His fist sent a ball of blue light and struck the other man in the shoulder.

The humanoid silhouette was not affected in the slightest. It squeezed Steven's hand and threw Steven out of the way with a casual wave of his arm.

Several pieces of rune paper were arranged in the air, forming an arc, and Steven was steadily taken.

A cloud of orange light flew past Ziang's side and hit the humanoid silhouette's organless face, causing it to stagger back a few steps.

Steven took the opportunity to run to the woman again.

The humanoid silhouette leaned its slender body back, reaching out and grabbing a handful of dirt from the ground. It nimbly turned, throwing the dirt in its hand at Steven.

A faint wave enveloped the flying dirt and crashed into Steven's body with it, causing him to lose his balance and fall sideways.

Before Steven could regain his footing, the skinny woman picked up a rock from among the weeds, stepped forward, and smashed it into Steven's face.

"Ahh Steven clutched his smashed cheek and jumped a few times in anger, "Can you grow your brains!" He roared, "Your lump of mud can knock people down, and humanoid light is running all over the streets!" Can't see which side you should be on?! ”

The woman turned and stumbled towards the lonely house.

"It's a nuisance." Steven muttered a word and chased after Lannie who was coming from behind.

The humanoid silhouette tried to stop it again, but before it could take a step, a cloud of purple light grabbed one of its legs, lifted it into the air, and slammed it back to the ground.

Some of the splashes of mud flew towards Emilia, only to be stopped by a purple barrier before they could touch her.

Zi Ang sandwiched a piece of talisman paper between his index and middle fingers, and raised his finger to the silhouette of the humanoid.

"Please," Emilia whispered, "come with them." ”

Ziang looked at Emilia, "I can actually ...... too" He bit his lower lip and blinked, "But...... All right. He put away the rune paper and ran towards Steven and Lannie, who were not far away.

Another flash of lightning struck, briefly illuminating the night sky and the earth.

On the vast plains, apart from the lonely house and the woods not far away, there are no bulges to be seen nearby. The empty scene brewed with rain and thunder brewed an indescribable sense of oppression, and also made the lonely house, which was only three stories high, seem inexplicably huge.

In the unsettling darkness, the light of two headlights passed through the woods towards the location of the lonely house.
