Section E, Chapter 45: Intense Fuel Oil (Odyss)
Couldn't help but be stunned, Odys's first reaction was: Could it be that they got a siege ladder and started attacking from the city walls? Or worse, the black ice mage appeared again?
Holding his left arm in agony, Odysse clutched his shoulders and staggered up the unusually noisy city wall. Sensing that something was wrong at the first moment, the Legion Commander looked at the herald's fingertips and his eyes widened in shock.
In the dark night and snow fog, an orange-yellow point of light can be faintly seen in the distance. However, unlike the beam, this time it was a wagon full of barrels and a blazing brazier hurtling down the hillside, sprinting at high speed towards the army of corruption waiting to rush in outside the walls. As we got closer, the coachman's figure was very clear in the firelight, a face that he knew very well.
Recognizing the coachman, Odys's heart was beating wildly: what was he driving towards the enemy?
Apparently, it was not only he who recognized Vikol, many of the soldiers began to shout excitedly. The archers also stopped firing one after another, and looked at the carriage in unison: in the thick of the night, the brazier on the cart was extremely glaring and very eye-catching.
Just as the carriage was approaching, Vicor let go of the reins, got up and kicked the brazier. The moment the barrel was ignited, he rolled on his side and fell to the snowdrift, then lay motionless in the snow. Drawn to the neighing of horses and the rattle of the wheels, the Corruptor turned their heads to look at the carriage.
At the moment when they were stared at by the cold gaze of the corruptor, the horses, which were not under the control of the coachman, timidly turned around and left. At that moment, Vicol stood up and flicked his whip three times in the air with an incomparably swift motion. For some reason, the horses neighed loudly in fear and rushed straight towards the enemy.
Fearing whether they were running down or fearing the burning carts, the Corruptor retreated, and the horses quickly rushed to the center of the army. The moment they reached the center of the enemy line, the flames finally spread to the layers of wooden barrels, and let out a violent explosion.
Could it be...... Listening to the familiar and increasingly violent pop, Odysse opened his mouth in shock. An idea that made him so excited came to him that he immediately shouted in a tremolo: "Everyone on the city walls!
Many of the soldiers were visibly stunned for a moment, but they were able to quickly carry out the commander's order within a few seconds. Odyss, crouching down and listening to the neighing of the horses, poked his head out of the top of the façade to see the burning carriage again. But at that moment, a violent explosion struck, forcing him to reflexively retract his head. A wave of heat swept across the wall with a deflagrating spark, nearly scorching Odyss' old, gray hair.
Unable to suppress the joy in his heart, Odeus and many soldiers poked their heads out one after another and looked down at the city. A large cloud of reddish flames of extreme heat quickly spread from the center of the explosion, and the heat and heat of the flames could be felt even from far away above the city walls.
Hurt by the expanding heat of the air and the blinding firelight, Odys had to lower his helmet and obscure part of his vision with his left hand. Pained wails poured in, and the corrupted army of thousands was engulfed in a blazing reddish fire in an instant. After the violent explosion ended, the corruptors who should have had time to evacuate were one by one charged with new fuel by the flames of their companions - perhaps the heat wave of the explosion was so strong that they lost their ability to move in an instant.
After a while, the frenzied flames spread into the courtyard. However, the defenders had already distanced themselves to avoid being swept away by the fire. Once the flames of this terrible fuel are lifted, even a quick extinguishing will leave a near-fatal injury.
Tongues of fire burrowed through every crevice under the enemy's armor, incinerating the fabric and skin within. The enemy was all dressed in metal armor, and what should have been a defensive armor became a killer to assist the flames, burning the corruptor inside like cans.
This...... Seeing the chariots and blackened horses that burned for only a dozen seconds, Odysse watched excitedly as the corruptors fell and struggled one by one, but could only cry out and turn into black smoke: yes, no doubt...... With such a high temperature and instant lethality, it is definitely exactly the same as rumored. The first time he saw such a terrible flame, Odysses couldn't help but feel palpitations in his heart, and thought about how painful it must have been to burn on himself: judging by the fact that the corruptors had not been able to extinguish the flames when they had fallen in the snow, the pale red flames could not even be touched.
In just two minutes after the flames sustained by the burning shells were extinguished, all that was left of the snowy fields that had been packed with the Corruptor was an empty body of armor and weapons. The few enemies who managed to escape the fire were swallowed up by the rain of arrows from the archers and fell to the ground. Almost as soon as the flames dissipated, Odyssey and Zadek gave the order to attack, frantically attacking the remaining Corruptors on the stairs.
Due to the front and rear attacks, the enemy who was blocked from retreating on the stairs was completely annihilated in an instant. Shocked by this sudden victory, Odys listened to the earth-shattering cheers in his ears and felt a faint vertigo: he had won...... In the face of so many corruptors, the war that would have been lost was completely reversed in such a few minutes! Without the help of the snow crow Vicor, the outpost would not have been able to hold it......
Without forgetting to order the casualties to be counted, Odyss, after a brief exchange with Zadek, who had decided to retreat to the Ice Rock Outpost, noticed the cheering crowd huddled together and carrying a panicked Vicor into the compound. Running to the crowd excitedly, Odysse was so excited that he forgot what he was going to say for a while.
"Lord Odys. Finally let go, Vicol smiled shyly, put his hand in his pocket and kept pinching something: "Sorry I'm late." If I could have come earlier, I wouldn't have sacrificed so much...... How were the gates breached?"
"The ghost of the Black Ice Mage, I'll tell you the details later. Turning his head to look at the carriage that had become ashes, Odyssey suddenly remembered the military expenses that Vicol had taken: "You applied for military expenses before, just to buy that batch of fuel?"
"No, the price of that batch of fuel is three hundred Eurasian gold coins. I paid only a tenth of the guarantee. Shaking his head, Vicol pulled his collar and pointed to his chest: "Thirty euros plus the Snow Raven Insignia, because there is no signature from the city lord, I had to use these as collateral to withdraw the fuel." Oh yes, it cost three euros to buy the horse, carriage and brazier. So I have seventeen gold coins left in my military expenses—"
"Take it, you deserve it. Pushing back the money bag handed by Vicor, Odys asked with great interest: "The horse should have fled when it saw the Corruptor, why did you let it continue to charge into the enemy line with only one whip?"
"That's why I'm so late. With a relaxed smile, Vicol raised the whip in his hand: "The last time I was whipped badly by the jailer with a thorn whip, I had an inspiration - after buying this horse, I spent two hours doing this action repeatedly: three whips, and if the horse did not run forward, I whipped the horse's buttocks with the thorn whip." After repeating this hundreds of times, it can be reflexively rushed forward. ”
