Section E, Chapter 44: The Battle of the Staircase (Odyss)
Eternal Winter Outpost on the city wall.
At the intersection of the staircase between the north and the south of the fierce battle, Odes held a shield sword and led several warriors to resist the frantic surprise attacks of enemies on both sides. Knowing that he must not lose control of the steps of the city wall, the commander of the legion rushed to the front of the defense line in order to boost the morale of those who were on the verge of collapse. This act of bravery really worked, and many of the warriors suppressed their trembling and fought desperately to the enemy.
Repeating the reminder "Don't look the enemy in the eye and keep your eyes on the opponent's chest", Odysse did not forget to shout out the many rewards and honors that you will receive after the victory to boost morale. Unleashing all the anger that had been pent up all day, Odysses frantically attacked his enemies, but was forced to be more cautious and defensive, these corruptors were far more powerful than ordinary people, and they had to reserve more physical strength to block.
It's a last stand. The outpost is bound to fall, there is no suspense at all...... And we were completely trapped on the walls, unable to escape. But until the last minute, Odys had no intention of giving up. Noticing that the Icerockers were more heroic in this siloed situation, Odyss, with a swollen throat, decided to shout something more to boost the morale of the Winters: no matter what, the Children of Ice could not lose to those reckless Icerock bastards.
Raising his sword and slicing open the neck of an enemy, Odys raised his shield and stepped back slightly, shouting hoarsely at all the warriors, "Listen, you young men. I've killed seven enemies in my half-hundred-year-old man, and you're too embarrassed to lag behind? You're snowmen, and you don't want to die like a coward! Especially the Children of Ice, give me the courage to be brave - the soul of the ancient tree won't accept the soul of a coward!"
The shout had a great effect, and many of the fighters struggled to put away their cowardice and began to counterattack the enemy. However, the situation of the battle did not improve in the slightest: the enemy's battle losses were still smaller than their own, and there was a steady stream of troops to replenish them. In contrast, although the archers lowered their longbows and came to participate in melee combat, they could not stop the gradual loss of the ladder.
Damn, even if you die, you have to slaughter a dozen corruptors with your own hands before you fall gloriously...... Struggling to smash through the blade of the chopping axe, Odys focused on the enemy in front of him while constantly observing the battle around him: survival in a melee often depends on subtle insight.
After tentatively parrying a few splits, Odys seized the opportunity to smash the jaws of his foe with his shield slammed. Quickly dodging the Corruptor's gaze, he stepped back in an instant, dodging the enemy's direct slash. Roaring and dashing, the Legion Leader slammed his sword into his opponent's throat.
With a kick that knocked over the enemy and drew out the blade of his sword, Odes didn't bother to dodge the splash of black blood, and quickly swung his shield to block the flanking attacks of the two enemies. Deliberately bowing his head to bypass the deep pupils of the Orchid, Odysses kept his gaze level on the Corruptor's chest, judging the direction of his weapon's attack by the festering shoulder movements of his enemies and his own combat experience.
Without thinking about the direction of this war, Odys focused all his energy on dealing with the battle in front of him. The archers, who had been ordered to shoot freely, continued to rain arrows in this direction, but it had little effect on the insane enemy: for these puppets who had been liberated from control and had only the desire to kill, as long as the arrows did not penetrate his vital points, even being shot as a hedgehog could not slow him down. Many of the enemies who are now engaged in the defenders are chilling with several arrows.
Damn, none of these guys seem to know what pain is. If you want to make them ineffective, you can only attack the vital points...... Cursing and knocking over a Corruptor with his shield, he was about to go up only to be kicked away by another enemy, revealing a flaw and nearly falling. Hurriedly steadied himself and raised his shield to defend, and a swift and powerful combo hit the shield completely, constantly causing the barely parried Odyssey to stagger back: the enemy's strength was so great that he even felt a sharp pain in his numb left arm.
At the moment when the combo was finished, Odyssey saw that there was no one behind him, and jumped back quickly to try to pull away. However, the enemy quickly smashed back with the blade of the axe, and smashed the shield with one blow, causing Odys's waist to be forced, and he failed to jump back. Before the Legion Commander could react, the enemy blocked and slashed with surprisingly fast movements, directed at his unprotected chest. Just as the Corruptor's axe was about to plunge into Odys's chest, a soldier sped forward from the flank, shielding him with a thrilling blow.
After the violent metal clash, the soldier who had saved his life seemed to have lost his strength and was almost knocked to the ground. Immediately took a hand to pull him, Odys, in line with the principle that you can't talk nonsense on the battlefield, just glanced at the soldier gratefully, then raised his shield and strode towards the enemy in front of him.
After violently smashing the enemy's sharp axe with his shield, Odysse held his sword in his backhand and stabbed the enemy with all his might. However, the corruptor reacted extremely quickly, grasping the blade of the stabbing sword and pulling it violently. Almost pulled down by this pull, Odysse immediately raised his shield and retreated, pulling away the distance. His slightly stiff body began to ache incomparably, and his head was dizzy: perhaps he was indeed old and could no longer withstand the fierce continuous fighting.
Staring at the cold and crazy enemy, Odeus, who deliberately avoided his gaze, vaguely felt a chill. The Corruptor threw his sword into the ground, and then sped forward. With all his strength in a shield smashing at him, Odyssey slammed off the handle of his enemy's axe, but the sharp pain and "rattling" sound reminded him of the severe fracture of his left wrist caused by the impact.
Ignoring the pain, he drooped his left arm and threw a punch with a roar of rage, knocking the pounced foes back one after another. The moment he grabbed the enemy's unsteady center of gravity, Odys grabbed the enemy by the throat and pinned it against the wall. Forcibly holding back the enemy's struggle with the strength of his left arm, Odysses slammed his head into the wall in a frenzy until he let go of his hand at the moment when his brain cracked. Exhausted and retreating, Odes gritted his teeth and looked around for a weapon: the place where his longsword fell was already infested with Corruptors, and it was impossible to retrieve it.
Just as he was about to crouch down and break the hilt of the sword in the hands of one of the dead, the herald came running in a panic and shouted, "Lord Odyss, go and see the city wall!"
