Section B, Chapter 33: The Straight Ladder (Eders)

After a long pause, Eders was pleasantly surprised to realize that he was already lying outside the dimly lit room.

With a shield behind him as a cushion, his back didn't hurt much. As a result, the impact was particularly painful in the back of the head. Rubbing the back of his head, Eders couldn't wait to get up.

Looking around, Eddes unexpectedly realized that he was in a one-way hallway. At the end of the corridor on his right, there is a straight staircase going up.

However, what surprised him the most was that there were blue torches burning on the walls on both sides of the corridor every few steps.

The eerie glow of the torch reminded Edders of the ice flames in the eyes of the corruptor. Feeling a little chilling, Eddes hurriedly stepped back and stepped off the door.

The corruptor was so kind that he had lit a torch for me, staring at the ice flame of a torch burning on the wall next to him, and without feeling the slightest warmth, he suddenly planned to do a death experiment: put his hand close to the flame and test if it really had no heat.

However, as soon as he put his finger into the outer flame of the flame, he reflexively withdrew it—not because it was burned, but because the temperature inside the ice flame was too low.

Damn, my fingers look like they're frostbitten...... Edus hurriedly clenched his frozen purple index finger with his left hand, trying to relieve the pain of his finger with the temperature of his palm.

However, the pain in the fingers was not relieved, and the biting cold spread to the entire left hand. Sensing that something was wrong, Edus immediately let go of his palm, which was getting stiffer and stiffer.

, it's so cold...... Regretting such a move, Eders had to keep puffing to warm his stiff fingers. In addition to regretting, he was also glad that he had just withdrawn in time, and his fingers had not been frozen too badly.

I'm really going to stay away from this damn torch...... Edus muttered to himself: This thing is too evil. I've never felt such a low temperature before—and the most infuriating thing is that you can't feel how terrifying the ice flame is inside without touching it. Even if your fingers are only half a centimeter away from it, you won't feel the slightest cold.

Speaking of which, how did the door that had not been knocked open just now fall on its own?, and when his fingers eased slightly, Eddes remembered the chill he felt through the crack in the door. To that end, he leaned in again closer to where the crack in the door had been.

Nothing special at all...... Eddes looked around suspiciously: the chill had disappeared from the moment the door panel collapsed.

Half-crouched and lifted the door panel, Edus flipped it to the front for a closer look. To his great surprise, the locks and shafts were so badly damaged - why did it take so long for him to knock down the damn door?

Mays patted his confused head: However, there are too many unreasonable things that happened today......

But just as he thought about it, a strange thought came to him: how the Corruptor had sealed this door. And the method of sealing the door is likely to be related to the cold.

He froze the door—and Eddes quickly remembered the scene that stood out to him: the dragon arrows bursting into cold as they exploded in the room. Standing by the door, Quill had to smash open the door of the house that was rapidly frozen.

It must be so—Edes, whose mind began to get mixed again, tried to convince himself of the statement: that such an explanation would certainly work. Because the ice is released by magic, it can be set by the caster to disappear when it will disappear. If done right, it may not leave a trace.

But since he didn't want to kill me...... Confused, Eddes looked into the dimly lit room again, thumping his aching waist: "Why did you keep me in the room for so long?"

It's just to stall for time and keep me from making an impact on the situation. At the same time, you can't take my life? Eders chopped off his numb foot, and immediately laughed at himself in his heart: This is too serious about himself...... I'm a captain, but I don't have the ability to reverse such a disadvantage.

After all, if a large number of corrupters who still possess mages really hit the fourth floor, what is the use of having one more person? At best, it will allow the soldiers to fight in a more orderly manner under their command, and they will still not be able to hold the line of defense when the time comes. As soon as the staircase on the east and west sides of the staircase was attacked by enemy troops, he was bound to be incapable of doing so—the two men who were capable of command were no longer around: the adjutant Prague was missing, and Quill was killed.

Eddes shook his head, no longer thinking about the ominous stuff: he could only hope that the fourth floor hadn't been attacked yet. You know, the more you think about the bad luck that you are afraid of, the easier it is that bad luck will come. However, this is not the case with good fortune.

Thinking of this, a thought suddenly sprung up in his mind that he himself thought was ridiculous: these corruptors are no longer attacking the fourth floor, they are not going to take Mace and Nadia as hostages, right?

Thinking about it, he felt more and more that this idea was not ridiculous at all: the Corruptors were clearly intelligent, and they did not violate the law at all. Hostages in the hands of the Corruptor don't mean much - but if the hostages are the beloved Mrs. Mace and the esteemed Maestro Nadia, all decisions will be influenced and people will become hesitant.

Turning around, Eddes looked down the hallway on the left-hand side - there didn't seem to be any doors or ladders or anything like that, so he didn't waste any time walking there.

Walk briskly to the corridor on the right, and soon come to the straight ladder that leads to the top. When he stood at the bottom of the straight ladder and looked up, Eders couldn't help but sigh from his heart: What a tall straight ladder!

I'm afraid it's going to take a while...... Eders looked warily at the passage behind him, and after making sure that no one was there, he put his left hand on the ladder. Twisting his frostbitten index finger slightly, Edus wasn't sure if it would be able to use its strength. After a moment's hesitation, Eders still climbed awe-inspiringly.

I don't know where this staircase leads...... After a few steps up, Eders meows to the exit above: it's unlit, pitch black.

If the exit leads to Snowcastle, you'll have to find a way back to the fourth floor when you get out...... Eddes secretly prayed for another ending: an exit to the outside of Snowcastle. In this way, there is no need to count on the crow to deliver the letter. I can go to the central barracks by myself to deliver information, so that I can transfer troops to liberate Cold Snow Castle.

Speaking of which, the only remaining crow must have been frozen to death by that cold air, right?Eddes smiled bitterly in his heart: even if the exit led directly to the fourth floor of the Cold Snow Castle, it would only be in another danger - there was no chance to send the news.

I don't know how long it took for Edus to crawl out of the exit exhausted. In front of him was another cramped room.

The light source in the room was still the same kind of torch that emitted a cold light, except that only the one on the right-hand wall in this room was burning.

There is no door...... Eders looked around in astonishment, eventually landing on a raised stone brick. It is mounted on the wall directly in front of it.

Seems to be able to press...... Edus approached and reached out to push the stone bricks forward.

The stone bricks recessed into the wall, and a stone door hidden in the front wall slowly opened from left to right. Surprised by all this, Eders walked out of the room.

The scene in front of him was so familiar that Edus didn't even react to the fact that he stayed there for several seconds.

He was in the living room of Lord Mace's room.
