Chapter 152: The Wall Breaker
"Feel free to fire," Zach said in a steady voice, nodding to the grinning beans.
The tense situation did not affect them, and they happily made the final adjustments to their three cannons before firing. Each of them heard a deafening explosion, and a shock wave drove out even those closest to the cannon.
Zach knew the cannons were going to give him a punch, but he was shocked by the scene in front of him. He barely had time to confirm that the shells were not projectiles or shells before the three rounds hit the ground. Unfortunately, one of them completely deviated from the direction, but the others drove towards the approaching army in the distance, and they quickly erected a collective shield.
A blinding flash of light flashed, and a second later, a terrible explosion rattled Zack's eardrums. When he looked at the battlefield again, he could see two huge craters with a diameter of more than 50 meters, full of casualties of rock workers. Their shields are clearly useless against the terror bombs that the crazed tinkerers have made out of relationship crystals.
Unfortunately, one of the shells was not fired, but the power of those shots was amazing.
Zach hopes they can fire a few more shells, but when he looks at Ishii's engineers, their hopes of firing the Nexus Crystal Bomb again are dashed. Three cannons were destroyed beyond recognition, and the barrels were completely twisted and deformed. Two of the tinkerers were also lying on the ground, bleeding from shell fragments, but it looked like they were fine.
Zach said to Ilfur, "Send scouts to both sides of the wall in case other troops try to surround us from the flanks," Ilver nodded and sent a few teams away.
"Ibtep, Joanna," Zach continued. "Your troops will hold the wall in this battle. Always be ready to run away if you need to. The level of these stone figures is too high. Leave your power to the undead. ”
Both nodded in acknowledgement.
Zach was about to continue, when the boulder floating above the rock man suddenly shot out like a bullet and flew towards the wall.
"!" Zach saw a huge cannonball whizzing in.
"Take the middle, and I will destroy the right side as best I can, and destroy the left side. Others will have to dodge," Ogras said.
"Let's start shooting," Zach shouted to the Valkyries standing in front of the siege machine as he took the axe.
The siege machines obtained from Raeder were mainly of the crossbow type, each of which was made of high-grade materials with projectiles engraved on them. None of the bullets came close to the power of the Ishii's giant cannons, but they were easily reloaded and flew towards the enemy after shot.
Another huge shield was erected after the initial shelling, and most of the large bolts were blocked on the screen. However, Zach knew that whenever an inscription-engraved bolt slammed into the magic wall, the attacker would lose some cosmic energy, just as it would cost the crystal to maintain the formation when it was attacked.
The huge stone finally approached the wall, and Zach charged with as many blades as he could, ready to intercept them as he walked around the wall. After a moment's hesitation, he poured the heavy knife into his blade, then quickly unfurled his blade. One by one, the blades hit a boulder, and none of them hit the target.
When his attack cuts into the stone, Zach realizes that the stone is also imbued with some kind of power, and he frowns. The fractal blades managed to destroy the boulder, albeit barely. The stone crumbled into small pieces, about half a meter in diameter. Zach immediately glanced at Illiver worriedly, and threw his large ball towards the boulder with his chain.
Unfortunately, the demon general only managed to create some cracks in the stone, and when the shell hit the wall, he had to flee from the dangerous place, completely destroying part of it. Similar scenes can also be seen in different places on the wall, where huge cracks or cracks are created.
Some of the ballistas were also destroyed, although most were unscathed. The loss of life was manageable, as most of the army was gathered in the area protected by Zach and Ogras. Still, some casualties can be seen, mainly on the edge of the army.
The army of stone men seemed happy to stay at a distance, even though their shields were no longer able to protect them from catapults. Some tore open the magic membrane, killing anything within a radius of a few meters.
Normally, these arrows should create more chaos, but these arrows are engraved with lightning attacks, and the golems seem to be very resistant. Lightning flashes among the golems, but the effect is noticeably limited, as only the person next to the lightning is visibly affected.
"We can't let this continue," Zach said with a frown as he saw new boulders rise from the ground.
Ogras, who usually prefers the safe option, actually nodded, and the two jumped off the wall without saying a word and rushed towards the attackers. They wordlessly came to the same conclusion. They must attack the army like a psychic wolf.
If the enemy does not want to approach them, they rush towards the enemy.
As they ran, Zach again charged at the five massive blades with [Slash] and without hesitation fired at the same part of the shield in front of them. One by one, they slammed their shields and finally broke through at the fourth blade, hitting the defenders behind.
The Black Giants erected their personal shields to intercept the two remaining fractal edges, and worked together to successfully stop the first. But the last one creates some carnage, as Zach has actually been infused with a razor-sharp knife.
Zach seized the opportunity and stepped into the gap with [the homeless], waving [Viren bites]. Ever poisoning oneself with cosmic water has a positive side effect. He has become very skilled in energy control as he has fought the entire first wave without being able to properly restore his energy crystals or collect arrays.
Zack's attacks usually consume little to no energy, and he only activates his skills in the shortest amount of time. It's all about going on as long as possible so that he can keep fighting for hours.
Ogras is not so careful with his energy, and the familiar pond of shadows spreads among the enemies, reaping life one by one.
However, the Mega Man are not weakling, and they put up fierce resistance to themselves and Ogras. It soon became clear that there are two main types of legacies for these things. Rocks and ice.
The mages manipulate the Earth, or to some extent their own bodies, in order to launch various attacks on Zack. They even felt that their stone manipulation skills were a notch above the level of the Earth Demons.
Zach also discovers that they are not stone golems like he and OGras suspected, as they are bleeding profusely when they are cut down. The blood was blue, and the spots on Zach's face told him it was cold, but it was still blood.
Another group of attackers is mainly manipulating ice. They either use this element to create surprisingly strong weapons, or shoot Xiaoice columns into imperceptible shells.
Overall, Zach felt that the fighters were quite strong, but not to the point where it would be a problem for him. He speculated that their average strength was around level 50 to 60, and if they were ordinary warriors, they didn't have any special advantages, such as unique titles.
Compared to his own enormous attributes, the attacker could only delay Zack's attack, but not stop his attack. They will be free contribution points, unless they knock out some of the elite soon.
Still, he failed to send them as quickly as he had hoped. Their rocky appearance makes them quite resilient, and they have specialized guards to keep others safe. Wall after wall, or made of dirt or ice, stopped him in his tracks, forcing him to change the direction of his swing.
This also meant that he couldn't send ordinary demon soldiers to help them, as their average strength was about the same as that of these attackers. There were only about 150 demon warriors at the time, and there were many more Mega Man.
Only the true elite dared to take risks, from time to time to make surprise raids, and only then hurriedly returned to safety. But, despite their caution, they were hit by a bunch of ice bombs. Zack's only backup was the encirclement plane, and they concentrated their fire on the area of the army far away from Zack and Ogras.
Even though Zach is much stronger than a youkai, it can be a chore to fight a large group of warriors with both hands. It reminded him of the desperate escape from the monkey tribe.
Some of them did everything they could to intercept his attacks, while others threw at him from a distance. Despite his strength, he is not invincible, so he spends most of his time dodging or circumventing endless walls.
After all, the attacks are quite powerful, and Zach can't ignore them like he does with a pack of wolves. He had already begun to accumulate some wounds, although between his equipment and stamina, they were only superficial.
To make matters worse, while Zach and Ogras fought their way through their ranks, the strange raiders had no problem firing more shells. The demon warriors can block some boulders with the same group shield used in the monkey wars, but there are still many boulders that slam into the walls and gradually destroy the fortifications.
Suddenly, the Mega Man began to retreat, actually sacrificing some of their warriors to maintain the occupation of the two. Soon, Zach and Ogras stood next to each other, panting, both covered in blue blood, looking down on the hundreds of dead aliens on the battlefield.
Zach sighed as he walked across the battlefield, ready to put his crossbow arrows into the cosmic sack. It was much easier to fix them than to make new ones from scratch, and he knew he would soon need to use the ballista again.
He grimaced as he walked through the battlefield at the damage on the wall. Huge cracks and missing sections on hundreds of meters of road make the fortifications look like they are part of some ruins rather than a town of custom. It is impossible for the demon to fix it in a short period of time.
Zach didn't understand what was going on. It almost gives the impression that Mega Man has a vendetta against the walls, rather than trying to fight the army in Port Atwood. They sacrificed a considerable number of fighters just to make some cracks.
After wrestling with them for more than an hour, everything became meaningless. The strength of the stone men was strong enough, and if they wanted to attack head-on, an ordinary wall without the help of a formation would hardly have any obstacles.
They could have climbed on it in seconds and brought the fight to a melee with the demon army instead of getting bogged down in the quagmire of themselves and Ogras. This would have caused heavy casualties to his troops, not small losses due to the wrong boulders.
Ogras frowned and looked at the corpses in the area, and seemed to have the same thought.
"I think they're sacrifices," Ogras said hesitantly. "There is only one force that can be hit by the wall. Undead. Fanatics and Mega Man can ignore it. But these stupid zombies will behave like wolves, even under the command of a leader. They may try to climb the wall, but most likely fail and become the main target for our fighters to plant Nexus Coins.
"So these things are working with the undead?" Zach asked, skeptical.
"They may have been forced. Nobody wants to be fodder. If we were in their situation, so would the Azrezak tribes. Both the Undead Empire and the Eternal Path are huge entities in the multiverse. They can order the small forces around them to carry out their orders, and the troops will have to obey for fear of affecting their home planet, otherwise," Ogras replied with a shake of his head.
Zach sighed and realized, "They're being used as wall breakers while also testing seawater." ”。
"Yes. The only hope we have now is that they still don't realize that we don't have an array, that we don't care about the walls at all. But the bastards in the undead army are probably laughing by now. ”
Suddenly, Zach felt a dangerous sting and quickly turned to the forest. As if summoned by Ogras's words, a cold man stood at the top of the woods, exuding a thick and powerful aura.
It was a humanoid creature standing two meters tall. He had a murder weapon on his back, which looked like a hook, almost as long as the man, and was made entirely of bone. It only takes one look to know what power this thing comes from. The man's face was pale, and his eyes shone with an evil red light.
However, the man is not some handsome vampire, but a walking corpse. There is no rotting flesh, but there is a strong sense of immortality, and this person cannot be called handsome in any way.
", it's the Big Boss himself," Ogras muttered, preparing his spear.
"No...... No, it won't. The viper shook his head and said. "That's a big question. I used to think he was the best one in this organization. Thought he would betray us like that. Can anyone confirm your claim?"
"I think a lot of the members saw him pass through the entrance to the port. If Verena was here, I think she'd have caught him too. But it's still missing. Elija suggested, "Dagon probably knows more. ”。
"I'm not sure. Maybe I'll talk to him. Do you know about the new Chief Executive?" he asked.
"Head, what?" replied Elija, a little confused.
"She was a powerful member of the Order, almost unknown, and now she controls most of the city," he explained. ”。
Elija thought for a moment, but didn't think of anything. "Any idea what classes she takes?"
"She is a rune mage, and part of the new city wall carries her skills. Viper explained, her eyebrows immediately raised.
"You mean Claire?" Elijah asked.
