Chapter Eighty-Five: The Waves Break

"Squadrons 7 and 9, defending at Darling Point! Squadrons 12 and 18, rendezvous with the militia at Cape Piper. The fourth team, resting, the 11 team began to fly and defend

Gunther shouted orders to the remaining tower mages, and even the rising tsunami hit the city.

The evacuation alarm went off about an hour ago, but even then, the city was in a mess due to interference from remote communications. Similarly, without the massive teleportation circle of the towers, the mages of the entire city have come to a standstill.

"Team 8, retreat!"

A wave of frustration overwhelmed Gunther's patience.

Even with about a hundred tower mages, the city would not be able to defend without a fortress hovering over it, retrieving casualties and sending new fighters. All Gunther could do was try to slow down the merfolk's advance, hoping that the others – his master, the Ferris mage, or perhaps Alesia, would manage to get into the magical fortress and take back control of it.

The tide has receded, giving the impression of a man stepping back and wanting to take a punch. This magical tsunami was not as powerful as a tsunami caused by natural forces, but it was enough to sink the city.

The paladin observes the city from his vantage point. The Leviathan is likely to land near Elizabeth Bay and use its momentum to penetrate deep into the heart of the business district. Once this crustacean--whale lands, its shell explodes, revealing a landing pod filled with malicious mermaids, their tridents ready to taste human flesh at any moment.

One-on-one, Noem doesn't stand a chance against the merfolk warriors, not even the fish-headed scum suckers. However, a low-level summoner can take a dozen merfolk, provided that the mage is fully protected and protected by allies.

All the mages joined the militia in Sydney. In mage-rich areas like Double Bay or Elizabeth Bay, there is everything from retired mages to entire families of mid-level mages. Conversely, if the merfolk reach deep into wealthy regions like Mount Suri or Redfern, they have little competition in "harvesting" the spoils of war.

Decades ago, during a conflict in the Coral Sea, Gunther had interrogated a captured mermaid prince during an attack on a human settlement. The answer he got from bulbous cephalopods was surprisingly prosaic.

Humans have encroached on the waters of Mermaid Gate.

Humans eat their cubs and hunt them.

Humanity has desecrated the Holy Sea.

In short, the merfolk fought a holy war.

Later, when Gunther assumed the position of Paladin, he learned that the merfolk were not a clan, but hundreds of races that inhabited the sea. For the kings of the Mermaidgate, war against humanity was a way to unite the various races, just as humanity in the Dark Ages once avoided all-out war in Europe by organizing a crusade against the half-humans of the Middle East.

Armed forces and soldiers gathered from all corners of the seashore and watched the armed forces emerging from the sea. These areas are supposed to be the safest in Sydney, protected by the largest, most rugged shielding stations. However, now they are the first line of defense.

A few kilometers away, the waves were breaking, revealing the backbone of the Leviathan skyscraper. From a distance, the creature's carapace glistens in the afternoon sun, filling coral mountains and crevasses. When the entire Leviathan was fully excavated, it stretched out about four football fields. From head to tail, this pea-brained dragon whale close relative is about a kilometer long.

Gunther couldn't even imagine how such creatures could have been fed and imprisoned, yet the merfolk tamed them. With every major assault on a human city, one of these creatures is excavated from the deep sea and brought here, piercing through human defenses with stupid, savage force. Once out of the water, the creature will inevitably die from its enormous weight, but before it dies violently, it will wreak havoc on the defenders' cities.

Gunther clicked in disgust and began to concentrate.

The radiant mage creates a diamond the size of a quail egg on one hand and fills it with radiant mana. At his feet, layers of hieroglyphs appeared, forming a delicate mandala. Gunther closed his eyes and turned to his third sense, concentrating his will until he could feel every aspect of the diamond in his perception.

"Focus the array!"

The Sydney Paladin unleashes the first layer of the mandala. The spell formed a bulging illusion that compressed his powerful radiant energy into a single point. The second layer of the illusion can adjust its radius, while the third layer can amplify its radius.

In a second, Gunther's ritual magic consumed the priceless Asher Diamondβ€”a gift dedicated to luminous beings that make their home on the plane of fire and positive energy quasi-elements. Grunting, Gunther shook the dust off his hands and took a deep breath to dispel the fatigue of the spell. Once the Leviathan hits the shallows, its head tilts back – which is exactly the window he needs.

The low gray clouds suddenly dispersed.

A scorching light shot out of the sky, as bright as a second sun, just as blazing.

Just as the head of its armor peeked out of the waves, it grabbed the neckless, triangular thing, with a dozen eyes, the size of a saloon, and five stories high, protruding from its bulging body.

During the initial impact, there was a hissing sound, as if the surface of the Leviathan's carapace had turned into a hot plate, and chunks of coral and shellfish had fallen from its ancient surface.

TSS system-!

After a second, the beam automatically adjusts and turns into a thin line that concentrates all the consumed flames on the quasi-elemental plane of radiation tenfold.

In the Leviathan's part, there was a disgusting crunch. It was the sound of the carapace popping and erupting, as the overheated flesh violently erupted, rebelling against the body, which it was supposed to protect.

Not far above, Gunther gasped. His dazzling light continued for a few more minutes, then dimmed and vanished.

The water that was once blocked is now flowing back into the bay. The light from the sky pierced Leviathan's head, completely destroying its impenetrable armor.

In the place where Gunther's strategic deployment was attacking, Leviathan's neck was a mass of boiling wet flesh and steaming seawater. The skull wound from the impact of the beam sizzled, oozing mucus enough to fill the lake. The mythical gigantic body, once so important a moment ago, is now slack and lifeless. On its sides, the Leviathan's claw fins no longer propel themselves forward. Having lost the drive of its mountainous muscles, only its power forces it to rush forward, dredging the ocean floor as it advances.

Thankfully, the slope was now too steep to push its body on, and it was slowly coming to a halt because of the weight of its own body.

A sea monster climbs a sea cliff overlooking Ross Bay and unloads the merfolk's cargo. The damn thing's tentacles were huge, and the shell-like pods that were thrown out crashed into the cathedral and its surroundings, stumbling into the unfortunate mages who were slow to escape their path.

Unfortunately, the defenders don't have a magic technology engine or war golem capable of repelling this brutal tactic.

The six-story squid is attacking the fortress of the cathedral in the most primitive way - with incalculable brute force. Attached to the cliffs, the cunning creature has a throw range that far exceeds the defender's own throw.

The surrounded mages scattered in all directions, only to realize in the next moment that the damned shellfish that had landed in their midsts were oysters, which opened to reveal the disoriented merfolk, screaming at the mage's flesh.

Alicia immediately took on the responsibility of suppressing the sea monster and gulped down three jars of mana potions to replenish her reserves. Exhausted from the battle with Elizabeth, she sees no reason to save her potion to cool down, especially when a pod falls from the sky as a merfolk.

The rest of the students, seniors, and the mage with the Ferris wheel lined up on the top of the cathedral. The confessors have activated the monastery fortress's defenses, fortified its walls, and established a local defensive shield to defend against elemental attacks.

However, their mana cores are severely undersupplied. Since the establishment of the shield station meant that there was no direct threat to the coastal zone;

With each oyster striking the reinforced sandstone, the century-old cathedral of Rossbay shuddered, screaming and screaming from the young girl hiding inside.

For Gwen and his companions, their job now is to hunt down the merfolk who have been thrown into the courtyard and the interior of the cathedral. Unlike the new fortifications, which used adaptive protection, the old fortress lacked a hard barrier.

In front of Gwen, a frantic hand-to-hand fight was ensured.

Gwen's lightning element finally reveals its true colors when confronted by these rubbery-skinned, hard-shelled monsters. Dressed in an armor robe that smells of blood, sweat, and fish, and is covered in mana and health potions, she immediately summons Ariel, her guardian orb, the modern hound, the lightning tentacles, and her magical storm.

Whenever a group of creatures accosted the light lightning witch, a stream of azure electricity poured out like a waterfall, leaving no corner behind. As she fought, her body was filled with the vitality offered by her companions – the blessings and help from Elvia, the elements of resistance and the protection of cannonballs from Ritu.

When an oyster the size of a car bounced off a sandstone wall and landed next to them, Gwen's converging lightning struck it with such fiery energy that all the occupants died before they could leave.

"Oh my God, I'm going to get sick!" Mr. Yue made a suffocating gesture as the oyster spat out a mess of carapace and gelatinous flesh.

This is the benefit of the lightning element in fighting monsters. In addition to the paralyzing effect, electricity has the added effect of ignoring the natural armor of living beings.

On the contrary, Yue's flames were more inclined to soft shells than hard ones.

Deborah acts as the girl's bodyguard, smashing the fish-headed merfolk who try to break their spells, ripping open the shells of the lobster and crab man.

Ritu and Elvia are on the defensive, as the other teams lack abandonment and healers, and they help the girls of Rossby do their best to clear the convent and surrounding area so that the young students can be safely evacuated to the range of the tomb. There, they waited in a dimly lit passage and could safely wait to be teleported to a safe tower.

"Lightning!" Gwen cast another spell, watching as a wire swallowed three merfolk at once, one of the prawns' head bursting like a ripe melon.

"Gwen, be careful!" Deborah is battling a merfolk in heavy armor in the guise of a king crab, wielding her massive claws as shields, threatening her friend. The Teleporter made several attempts to penetrate its shield with ground spikes, but was unsuccessful.

"Debbie, for me!" called Gwen.

As the merfolk chase, an unseen hound emerges from the aether and hits its core, its electric fangs ripping through its carapace. Unfortunately, even if paralyzed, the monster's resistance is too much for a newbie like Gwen.

"Caliban!

"Shah, Shah!"

Again, Caliban is a great favor. Possessing the ability to negate hard armor, it leaps out of Gwen's shadow and clutches the terrified crab people by devouring the lamprey's stomach.

"I've got you!"

Elvia struck Gwen with a positively charged mana, and Caliban narrowed the distance between himself and a Crab Commando. The crab man clucked indistinctly, Caliban greedily burrowed in, and after a few moments, it revealed a core and it gobbled it up.

Gwen felt her vitality regain a little. Between Ivey and Kaliban, she might be able to keep the critter alive for a while. The problem is, the Caliban are just a nightmarish creature from the horrors of the Void, where they are overwhelmed by slave-like merfolk everywhere.

How's Alicia?Gwen turned her mind to her friend and sister craftsman. As long as the sea monsters are alive, there will be endless swarms of mindless merfolk bent on harvesting their mage meat.

Alicia's frustration was enough to ignite the atmosphere.

Nearly a hundred meters from her, six Mermen priests rode on top of Kraken Hill and threw a cloud of incantations at her. Ice spears, blizzards, water bolts, jets, it took Alexia every ounce of combat instinct to dodge and weave, instead of turning into a water shell.

She tried to fight back, but the action was too slow for half a second. An ice arrow swept past her, activating her reactive flame shield.

"Ahh

She knew what those cursed fish heads were doing. They try to incapacitate her and slow her down so that she can easily be preyed upon by boulders thrown by sea monsters or merfolk. She, in turn, just wants to throw them a sweet delayed explosion fireball, or activate a blade barrier, but the range of these damn spells is limited.

In her life, she has never been kited by a monster, however, here she struggles to get into range. Again and again she tried to penetrate their siege, but was repulsed each time.

"Damn amphibian shit!" Alexia wished her flame burned hotter. If the Taj Mahal were here, he could destroy their faint spell while she prepared a summon of mass destruction.

Just as she was wondering if she should risk blinking, a message spell bloomed in her ears.

"Master Bolton!" a voice cried in her ear.

Alicia felt her heart skip a beat. She tried to activate her device, but was unsuccessful.

"This is Ferris!" the voice spoke again. "I use my divination to communicate with you. ”

"I need help!" Alesia admitted. She didn't want help from Gray's faction, but they had to somehow get rid of the sea monster. When the children are not safe, Ferris is unlikely to agree to teleport them to the tower with her personal key. "Help me get this out of the way, and we'll be able to get to the tower!"

"That's exactly what I thought. "Ferris's voice commands and firms, I have 200 children here. Once the great crowd came, the cathedral could not hold out. ”

"What can you do?" asked Alexia.

"I'm going to make a pastime!"

Alicia felt the air around her sparkle.

She was first two, then three, then four, all realistic, exactly the same in every way. She touched one and was surprised to find that the fake Alexia had a flesh-and-blood body.

"This is a mirror image of Ferriera. "They're distracting. I'll use advanced invisibility to lure you in, but if you use advanced spells, it will be dispelled. Is enough for you to get closer?"

"Yes. Alicia grinned, confidently assuring the judge that they didn't know what hit them. ”

"Alright, come on!"

A bright light flashed, and the light around Alexia vanished, obscuring her presence.

"Hunting is good!" Ferris's message was cut off, and she was busy maintaining three simulations.

Master of Illusions. Alicia suddenly developed a paranoia that Ferris might have been part of the ensnaring of Henry, but when she thought about it again, it was highly unlikely. Ferris was almost always by her master's side, and while Alicia didn't believe she could see through Ferris, she trusted Henry's instincts. Alicia also sensed the difference between the hallucination spell and the Tari religion. After experiencing Ferris's invisibility surgery, she is convinced that Ferris is not involved.

Alicia put aside her doubts and focused on the job at hand. She is her master's hammer, and once the Kraken falls, they can enter the tower in search of Walken. With the tower repaired, they can repel the mermaid tide and everything will be fine.

Alicia exudes her burning mana, ready for the carnage that follows.

The simulacrums are already moving fast, expertly cutting through the air, as graceful and dexterous as Alessia. They even throw low-level spells like fireballs, dodging and swinging through spells and tentacles.

Alicia held in one hand a dagger encrusted with rubies, a strange-shaped knife carved with curling flames, as if not from land. Its handles and stems are encrusted with rubies the size of pigeon's eggs, and are priceless by any standard.

Her breathing slowed.

The price of electricity is high.

"Oh, Vulcan, listen to my call..."

A hieroglyph appeared at the foot of Alexia, and the three circles were halved to form a triple mandala, which rotated faster and faster until it created a passage directly into the plane of the fire element. The air around Alicia immediately burst into flames, purifying the mortal cloth that had stuck to her skin. The spectacle lasted only half a second, as in the next split second, conductive heat from the plane of the fire elemental entered her body.

The dagger stabbed into her palm.

Alicia's blood is magma, and her eyes are two golden suns.

She was now covered in flames, a sensual Jayne native to the land of primordial fire, her roaring hair flicking behind her to form a warm buzzing ember of fireflies.

"Alright, you fish-faced bastards," she grunted fiercely, her eyes glaring at the sea monster. In her body, everyone who challenges her should be careful, because standing here is the Scarlet Witch, who eats enemies like air.
