Chapter 37: Escape from Death
Stan froze, his hands hanging limply at his sides, his sword stuck in the dirt, despair coming like a flood that nearly knocked him to the ground.
The figure slowly approached him, seemingly completely unaffected by the torrential rain, and the dense raindrops fell on him, splashing in all directions.
Stan looks over to Nerfi, the girl still hunched on horseback, rain dripping down his long hair. "No, it's not time to give up yet. Stan pulls his sword out of the dirt and drags his aching body to Nerfi's side, but he can't lift it with his right hand, and can only barely hold it in front of his chest with his left hand, which he is not good at.
At this moment, the sound of messy horses' hooves sounded behind them, and several demons slapped their horses and arrived, completely cutting off the retreat of the two. In fact, even if it was only the demon in front of him, Stan didn't think they had any chance of escaping, and now the demon that appeared behind him hit his heart to the bottom.
The demon was still approaching, his speed was very slow, the prey in front of him was like a trapped beast, there was no way out, he was not in a hurry to kill them, but enjoyed the fear of the prey.
The rain blindfolds Stan's eyes, but he can't lift his right hand to wipe it away, and the demon's figure becomes blurred, but his thoughts become clearer. "That's the only way, at least let Nerfi escape!"
Silently decided, Stan slowly took a few steps back to the side of Nerfi's mount, where he was still waiting.
As the demon got closer, only about ten yards away from the two of them, Stan took one last look at Nerfi, his eyes full of reluctance, and he tried to reach out and stroke the girl's back, but his right hand, which was almost unconscious, could not be lifted. "Goodbye, Nerfi......" Stan raised his left hand and slammed it into the buttocks of his mount.
Almost at the same time, there was a sudden thud behind him, like the sound of a door being smashed. Stan's fist suddenly lost its strength, and he tried to withdraw his hand but was too late, and finally slapped lightly on the hind leg of the mount, and the horse snorted a few times, only took two or three steps and stopped, and it was tired.
Stan looks behind him and sees strange figures coming out of the house by the side of the road one by one, through the rain curtains, he can't see who they are, but he always thinks they are walking in a very strange way.
The demons behind them also seemed to be stunned by the situation in front of them, and they stopped approaching and began to guard against these figures.
"Could it be the villagers hiding here?" Stan watched suspiciously, as one figure after another walked towards the demon without fear. "Impossible, how could an ordinary person move so freely and get close to the demon? not even Gaiman's soldiers could do it. ”
But the figure kept approaching the demon all the time, and seeing that it was almost in front of them, one of the demon raised his sword and slashed at the figure led by him. Although he couldn't see the face in the rainstorm, Stan could clearly see the figure's head fall neatly from his neck, and his heart tightened. However, what shocked him even more was that the figure that had lost his head did not stop, but opened his hands and hugged the sword-wielding demon. The figure behind also pounced, grabbed the demon and opened its mouth to bite down.
"It's ......" memory rushes into his brain, and Stan thinks of something, and hopes of survival rise again in his heart.
The demons in the rear all raised their swords and joined the melee, and for a while, the severed limbs flew sideways, and the figures followed one after another, even if only half of their bodies were left, they still crashed into the demons. In a few moments, several demons were tossed to the ground, each crushed by several figures, and a terrible howl broke through the rain.
Stan turns his head and stares at the demon in front of him, who is clearly caught off guard by the sudden situation. Now he's come to his senses and refocus on Stan. Stan understands that the other party will definitely change his previous unhurried attitude, and will fight quickly, but with his current physical condition, let alone resist, it is a question of whether he can take the demon's first move.
The demon draws his sword and leads the horse to him, and Stan holds his breath, ready for the last moment. At that moment, the door of the house, which was only a few steps in front of him to the left, suddenly exploded, and the same figure rushed out of the room, quickly moving towards the demon. Stan then sees the faces of the figures, which are lifeless faces, their eyes white, and their faces covered in corpse spots. The rain hit their faces, and the blood was gradually washed away, revealing the paleness of the deceased.
It was a bunch of dead bodies.
Seeing that the situation is not right, the demon immediately urges the mount forward, trying to quickly eliminate Stan. I saw that the terrifying war horse raised its front hooves, jumped forward with its hind legs, and its whole body soared into the air.
Stan wields his sword in his left hand and swings it forward, not trying to fend off the demon's charge, only to deliver a blow when the opponent hits the ground. To his surprise, his sword didn't slash anything, and the blade slashed through the air, swinging a fan without resistance.
Several corpses pounced on the hind hooves of the demon's mount and dragged it out of the air, causing the mount to lie directly to the ground, and the demon was thrown off. In the blink of an eye, several dead bodies had fallen on the mount, waving their hands like dead branches and biting them.
The demon immediately stood up and slashed the two corpses that had arrived in front of him, which stopped them from moving forward, but three more corpses surrounded him, and it was clear that the demon had no energy left to pay attention to Stan, and he was now like a trapped beast.
Stan couldn't care about it anymore, this was his only and last chance. The knight climbed onto the horse, then pulled the reins of Nerfi's mount, clamped his legs, and the horse reluctantly stepped forward.
Seeing that the prey was about to escape, the demon immediately launched an attack on the dead corpses around him, and the dazzling sword technique put down several dead corpses, but more dead corpses firmly trapped him in the middle, and he couldn't leave half a step at all.
Stan walked past the demon and was only a few yards away from him, and the demon watched its prey pass by before him, and suddenly roared and lunged forward. He only ran two steps before he was pounced on both sides by the corpse, and after only a few seconds, he was completely covered by the corpse and could no longer stand up.
Stan's mount gradually accelerated, running north at trotting speed, and he and Nerfi's mount were too tired to run quickly. The village behind him quickly disappeared behind the rain curtain, and the whole world was once again left with the sound of dense rain and horses' hooves.
Pain and fatigue make Stan's spirits begin to weaken, and the constant sound of rain is like a lullaby that nearly makes him fall off his horse several times, and it is only his strong will that keeps him from fainting.
The two of them ran for an unknown amount of time, but the rain did not abate, and Stan felt that his limit was approaching, and he glanced at Nerfi, and the girl was still unharmed on the horse's back. Stan changes direction, skews off the muddy road, and rides northeast in an almost ocean of mud, hoping to find a place to take refuge in the woods.
Puddles of water of all sizes are scattered all over the road, and Stan, who is unable to concentrate, has no way to avoid them all. Finally, in a puddle the size of a farm, Stan's mount stumbles and flies into the air. Stan is also thrown into the air, making a curve and falling into a puddle of water a few yards away, without even screaming.
The horse hummed and climbed to its feet, and without the urging of its master, simply stood there to rest. Nerfi's mounts also stopped, gasping for air, and they could barely run.
Stan lies in the water, the puddle completely submerging the back of his head, and the rain mercilessly hits his face, but it still can't wake him up.
