Chapter 36: Escape from Gaiman
As soon as he ran through the doorway, a strong burst of light rushed towards him, and Stan was stunned, his head occupied by a roar, and he couldn't see anything clearly.
"Nerfi!" Stan yelled eagerly, now like a blind man, with his hands outstretched and touching.
In a trance, Stan feels the sensation of wool, and according to his memory, Nerfi is wearing a short wool coat. Without much thought, Stan pulls Nalfi back to his side and holds it tightly with his hands, the smell of his nose indicating that he is right.
The intense light dimmed, and Stan's eyes began to see clearly, only to see a demon lying on the ground a few steps away from the two of them, unable to tell if he was still alive. In the hallway, several other demons fell to the ground, two of them still struggling to get up, seemingly only temporarily knocked down.
"We must get out of here now," Stan said, stabbing his sword between the eyes of the demon on the ground. "Use light magic to get rid of all the demons in the hallway, or wait until they recover...... Nerfi, what's wrong with you?" Stan realizes that the girl in his arms is shaking, and he doesn't even listen to what he says, let alone cast magic.
"Okay, I can only rush hard. Striding toward the other end of the hallway, Stan grabbed Nerfi in his left hand and sword in his right. Along the way, he passed the trembling demons trying to stand up, and Stan realized that he was not unable to move because he was afraid, but his steps were a little messy.
Turning the corner, another hallway emerges, this one longer and Stan, gasping for breath as he can. He felt like he had never encountered such a long hallway, as if he would never reach the end, and after running for an unknown amount of time, he suddenly heard the sound of messy footsteps from ahead.
"Oh no!" Stan's mind went blank for half a second, but he reacted immediately and quickly flashed into a room next to him.
Stan clings to the wall of the doorway, pulling Nalfi behind him, staring at the doorway with his sword in his right hand. The sound of footsteps came from far and near, hurried through the doorway, and slowly walked away again. But Stan didn't feel any relaxation at the moment, knowing that after discovering the situation on the other side of the hall, the demons would soon turn back and they would be discovered sooner or later.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before footsteps reappeared in the hallway and spread out, sounding like the demons were searching the rooms one by one. With little time left, Stan anxiously runs to the window and looks out, only to see him despair. They were on the fourth floor of the castle, and it was more than thirty yards to the ground, and if they jumped from the window, they would at least be seriously injured, let alone escape.
"Holy!" Stan punches the wall, knocking it into a crack.
"Stan......" Nerfi made a trembling sound. "I seem to be better, I can use my magic to send us both out. ”
"No, Nerfi, we almost stayed in the Light Plane last time forever. Stan shakes his head. "It's too dangerous there, more dangerous than here. ”
"I can use flying. Nerfi leaned against the wall and touched her forehead. "I'm not good at flying, but I just need to make it to the gate. As she spoke, Nerfi felt dizzy and nearly fell to the ground.
Stan holds her up just in time. "We had to try, we had no choice. ”
Footsteps outside the room were getting closer, and it seemed to be in the next room. "Hold me tight!" Nalfi raised her wand and chanted a spell. Their feet lifted off the ground and drifted slowly out the window.
Raindrops drifted in the sky, and the wind mixed with the smell of burnt smell blew, and Nerfi couldn't hold on for a moment, and fell down sharply, and then immediately stabilized his body. "It's all right, Nerfi, I must be too heavy to help. Stan said in chagrin.
"Don't speak......" Nerfi barely had the strength to answer, and it was obvious that she had focused all her mental energy on flying.
The two of them had flown dozens of yards away from the window, and the demon's head poked out of the window and roared angrily at them. Stan shivered when he looked back and saw several demons blocking the window, if they hadn't flown out, they would have been cut in half by now.
The gate got closer and closer, and the two of them also lowered to the height of two floors. "It's almost there, Nerfi!" Stan looks hopefully at Nerfi, only to see that the girl has closed her eyes and doesn't respond. "Nerfi!" Suddenly, the strength that held the two men disappeared, and in a dizziness, the two fell down.
Stan slams to the ground in severe pain, and at the last moment, he manages to turn himself to the lower position, holding Nelfi tightly with both hands, acting as a cushion of flesh. Nalfi doesn't seem to be hurt, but Stan isn't so lucky, his right shoulder is on the ground, and the pain in his heart makes him barely able to pick up his sword.
There was no time for him to recover, and the demon was already on his way, Stan picked up Nerfi with his left hand and limped over the pile of corpses at the gate with his right hand dragging his sword. The rain-soaked ground causes him to nearly fall several times, only to realize that his right leg has also fallen, and every step looks like it is about to break. After holding back the pain and putting Nerfi on her mount, Stan put away his sword, then climbed onto his horse, grabbed the reins of Nerfi's mount with one hand, barely grasped his own with the other, and the two horses galloped west.
The demons behind them also arrived at the gate of the castle, they did not mount, but they did not seem to give up, only to see one of the demons blowing a whistle in the sky. A screeching sound pierces the smoke and reaches Stan's ears.
Stan knew that they were not out of danger, and that with his physical condition, there was only one way to die if they were caught up by the demons, and now they had only these two horses to rely on. Without any pause, Stan leads the two horses out of the west gate of the city and continues northwest.
The rain is getting heavier, the sky is full of dark clouds, and the sky is getting darker, and Stan is losing sight of the road ahead. The muddy road slowed them down, and after running for an unknown amount of time, the horses couldn't run, and Stan on his mount was no better. The pain of the previous injury became more and more painful, almost unbearable for him, and it was with extraordinary endurance that he persevered until now.
Eventually, when the horse leaps over a puddle, Stan fails to sit still and falls off his horse. The earthy yellow wet mud rolled all over, and his face was covered with the splashed mud. The two horses continued to run forward for a dozen steps before stopping, and Stan struggled to get up, but found that he couldn't stand up anyway, so he untied the sword from his waist and used it as a crutch to support his own body and swayed towards the horse.
After Stan made sure that Nerfi was safe on his horse's back, he leaned back on the side of his mount and looked around for any trees to dodge. It was raining heavily, and the visual distance was only a few dozen yards, and it was impossible to see the distant scenery at all. Stan has no choice but to pull the reins of the two horses and walk forward in despair. He was soaking wet, stepping on the muddy wet mud, and his feet were as heavy as lead.
Within a few steps, the shape of a house suddenly loomed on both sides of the road ahead, and Stan wiped the rain from his face in disbelief, confirming that it was a village before the rain took over his face again.
Dragging himself and two horses into the village, he stood in the middle of a puddle of water, with no sound but the rain. Suddenly, a palpitating sensation hits Stan's heart, and he looks up to see a figure on a horse standing motionless behind a dense curtain of rain.
