Chapter Eighty-Seven: Dragon's Territory
The group continued to march on the winding path, which was so narrow that only one person could pass at a time, so the four of them had to line up, with Miruria at the front, Enoch second, Nigel third, and Fern behind. Sometimes it seems that there is no road ahead, but when you get there, you find that the path has suddenly turned a ninety degree turn, completely changed direction, and sometimes after a long uphill climb, the trail suddenly drops a distance of dozens of yards. The group walked on the path until midnight, and had no sense of direction, Fern tried to look at the stars in the sky to determine the direction, but the weather was really bad, the cascading dark clouds almost covered the entire sky, and only the bright light of the aurora barely saw through the clouds, so that they could barely move forward at night.
In the second half of the night, they finally found a cave where they could live, but no one but Nigel was not happy, because there were traces of someone else coming to the cave, and it was not long ago.
"Maybe it's the Scouts, Adeline said that the Altoona soldiers had discovered a dragon's lair in Blackridge Mountain, and they must have left it behind. Enoch cleaned the charcoal pile.
Fern observed the rest of the cave. "I suspect Adeline didn't tell us the truth, no Altoona soldiers found out about it, otherwise why didn't she tell us the exact whereabouts, and instead asked Nigel to take a wand to detect?"
Enoch suddenly realized and looked up in surprise. "Did she get the news out of it somehow?"
Fern shook his head helplessly and winked at the mage. "Well, I'll have to ask him. β
Nigel was sitting on the floor resting, hearing the conversation between the two and slowly sighing. "I have to admit that Adeline did hide something, and even I did. β
"I don't believe it, you're her apprentice, she's not going to push you into the fire pit. Enoch sat down beside the mage and looked at him sternly.
Nigel defensively shifted his ass to the other side, keeping his distance from the fighter. "As I said, she must have sent us knowing that we could complete this task, this has nothing to do with how she found out here, even if she guessed, then she must have guessed correctly, you have to believe in the strength of the great sage. β
"Of course we do, but only if she doesn't treat us like pawns to be sacrificed at will. Enoch leaned against the wall in frustration.
"We have to be careful ourselves, for the great sage, there is nothing that cannot be given up, as long as the result is worth it. Fern finished inspecting the cave and said to the warrior, deliberately taking a look at Nigel's expression, but the mage simply closed his eyes and began to meditate.
After a while, Miluria also returned to the cave. "There's nothing around, we can rest here and leave tomorrow at dawn. β
Fern nodded and pushed the mage who was still meditating, but there was no response, the mercenary pushed hard again, and Nigel blinked and woke up, it turned out that he was already asleep, Fern said with a wry smile. "You're really going to enjoy it, you can't enchant magic, cast an enchantment around the cave tonight, and we won't have to keep vigil. β
"I will, but are you relieved?" Nigel raised an eyebrow, looking at the three of them.
Enoch replied, preempted by Fern. "We believe in you, but you have to trust us, otherwise we won't be able to complete this mission. β
Nigel shrugged his shoulders and stood up and walked towards the hole.
"I think I'd better keep a good night's watch. Enoch looked at the mage's back unapprovingly, and whispered to Fern.
"No, let's rest, tomorrow may be more tired. Fern shook his head and patted the warrior on the shoulder.
The next day, Enoch didn't wake up until daybreak, and the warrior rubbed his eyes to find that only Fern was still asleep, and the mage and scout were already sitting and eating breakfast.
Seeing that Enoch was awake, Miluria immediately served a cup of hot tea, and Nigel drank the tea as he said slowly, "It seems that you slept really well, how does it feel to not have to keep vigil?"
The warrior took the teacup and touched the back of his head in shame. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have doubted you. β
"It's not your fault, you still need to hone and hone more, and learn to trust people who can be trusted. The mage nodded and accepted the warrior's apology.
On this day, the people continued to drive along the path to the mountains, and found a cave with traces of human habitation in the evening, and on the third day it was still the case, until the afternoon of the fourth day, when the path that had been leading the people made a sharp turn, and finally came to an end, and in front of them was a huge valley, and to everyone's surprise, the valley was full of greenery, and the dense trees filled the whole valley, and in the middle of the valley, a lake of clear water could be faintly seen, which contrasted sharply with the white peaks that surrounded the valleyγ
"Here...... Is it the dragon's lair?" said Miruria, who walked at the front, stunned at the strange sight in front of her.
Nigel nodded thoughtfully. "That's right, dragons are said to change the climate and environment of their habitats, and for humans, dragons' habitats are mostly beautiful, and this place is exactly right. β
"Isn't it dangerous that we're still standing in such an obvious place?" Enoch nervously looked around, trying to find a hidden place to hide.
"Let's find our way down first. Fern looked down the cliff. "It's a hundred yards down the valley here, how can we go down?"
"I'm looking around for a way down, we don't have ropes with us, we can't go straight down. Miruria said, and ran to the left.
"There's no need for that. Nigel said slowly, "You guys are standing. The mage slowly raised his hands, and began to chant the incantation in his mouth, his expression was still the same indifferent, gradually, everyone's feet left the ground and floated forward, and at the moment when they just floated out of the cliff, the other three looked at the cliff a hundred yards deep under their feet, and unconsciously exclaimed, Enoch even shouted in fear, and Fern immediately stopped him, although the mercenary himself was very scared, but Miruria enjoyed it, and looked at the green valley below him with a look of surprise. The mage ignored them, but continued to cast the spell, and the four of them slowly drifted towards the valley like bubbles floating in the air.
