Chapter Eighty-Eight: The Green Dragon
Everyone floated smoothly into the valley, and Enoch couldn't stop sighing in amazement. "I thought that only those old mages with a lot of beards could make so many people fly, but I didn't expect you to be able to do it at such a young age. β
Nigel's expression remained calm, and there was no change in the fighter's praise. "Age doesn't mean anything, and it seems to me that a few of you have surpassed the warriors who are older than you. β
As soon as Miruria hit the ground, she had already run out to scout, and the three men had to rest in place for a while, waiting for news from the scout, and Fern walked over to the mage to join the conversation. "But I see that although you are not very old, you are much older on the inside than you look on the outside. β
The mage turned his head to look at the mercenary, and there was a hint of regret in his eyes. "You're right, I think my spirit will die before my body, and when the time comes, I'll be a walking corpse. β
Enoch's words startled Fern and Enoch, and they both looked at the mage with alarm, and the warrior's hand was even pressed against the hilt of the sword. "What do you mean, The Walking Dead?" the warrior asked.
"Don't be nervous. Nigel smiled disdainfully when he saw the two of them panicking. "I'm just talking about it, but I don't know what the hell is going to happen. β
"But...... Is that still alive?" asked Fern tentatively, though he already had the answer in his mind.
"No, you can't. The mage replied very simply. "It's good not to become a ghoul, maybe a demon mage. β
"That's really a mage's misfortune. Fern shook his head.
"Whoever one of you is still with me while my spirit is dead, please be sure to cut off my head, so that I may not be taken advantage of by the Dark Tide. Even as he said this, Nigel's expression remained calm. "Remember, warriors, or you will die at my hands, of course after the Dark Tide. β
Fern and Enoch looked at each other, not knowing how to answer the mage. Just then, Miruria returned, and the scout ran to the crowd panting. "Front...... In the lake ahead, there's a dragon!"
"What!?didn't you expect to meet so soon?" Enoch drew his sword.
"Don't be impulsive, we have no chance of winning a fight with a dragon. Fern glanced at the warrior who was ready to go. "Let's find a place to hide first, and go through slowly, so that it doesn't find us. β
Miluria looked at Fern hesitantly, thought about it for a moment and said, "That dragon, it seems that something is wrong. β
"What's wrong?" asked Nigel, who took the initiative this time unexpectedly, rushing in front of Fern to the scout.
"It seemed to be unable to move, most of its body sank into the lake, only its head and two wings were on the shore, as if it was exhausted. Miruria said suspiciously, "Moreover, its body is not the same as the black dragon we just saw, it is...... Green. β
"Green?!" Nigel's voice suddenly raised a lot. "Is that really the case?"
"What is it really like?" Fern asked as he knew that Nigel must have thought of something.
"I'm not sure yet, let's go over and see, if I'm not mistaken, the dragon's time is running out. As he spoke, Nigel cast his flying spell and flew forward quickly.
"Stop, you idiot, you're going to expose us all, who knows if there are any other dragons around here. Enoch screamed angrily from behind, but the mage didn't listen to him, and the three of them ran over with all their might.
The group followed all the way into the woods, the trees on both sides gradually became denser, the dense branches almost completely covering the sky, and the entire forest was dyed emerald green by the bright light of the leaves, and if it weren't for the fact that this place was in the middle of the Black Ridge Mountains, Fern would have thought they were in the rainforest of Serendra. Along the way, they encountered no danger, the whole forest was surprisingly peaceful, and the temperature was much warmer than outside the valley, and after only a short run, Fern was sweating. To his surprise, there were still some animals that could not be seen in the cold areas, butterflies and black and white birds fluttering among the flowers and branches from time to time, and some deer bent their necks to lick the river by the lake, and the mercenaries were almost dumbfounded.
"It's so unusual here, Adeline must know something, but she doesn't tell us. Fern caught up with his companion and said worriedly.
"I'm more worried that Nigel won't give us trouble. Enoch muttered, oblivious to the unusual scenery on either side.
"Are we in danger?, although it seems peaceful here, I feel the danger that is involved, how can there be such a pure land in the Black Ridge Mountain?" said Miruria, worried, her brow furrowed.
"I'm ready to accept any facts, and I won't be surprised, even if it's unusual. Fern looked at the mage in front of him, who was slowing down. "Be careful, protect yourself. β
Nigel stopped at the edge of the lake and slowly walked to the side, and Fern and the others caught up with him, looking in shock at the green dragon that the scout had spoken of, lying on the edge of the lake only a few dozen yards away from them. The dragon's head was larger than the rest of them combined, and it had fin-like things on the top of its head, and most of its body was covered with dark green scales from the face, extending into the water, revealing pale green skin below the neck that was not covered by scales. The two wings hung on the edge of the lake, and from the middle of the wings, two claws, which were very small compared to its body, were digging into the dirt on the shore. The dragon's eyes were closed, as if it was dead, and it seemed to be sleeping again.
The green dragon was alarmed by the movement of the crowd approaching, and the huge eyes slowly opened, and the dark green eyeballs rolled to find the comer. Except for the mage, everyone else put their hands on the weapon vigilantly, and the dragon's underwater body moved, causing a splash.
"Don't act rashly, as long as we don't do it, he won't hurt us. Nigel turned back and motioned for the three to relax. "Don't reveal the intent to attack, that will only anger him. β
"Heβdo you think of him as a life like us?" Enoch followed the mage in confusion, his left hand still gripping the scabbard tightly, though the warrior's hand had left the hilt.
"Dragons are intelligent creatures that are higher than humans, they are wiser than humans, and they have existed much longer than humans. Nigel tried to relax as much as he could, slowly walking towards the green dragon. "Now, I'm going to talk to him, and you can listen to it later, but remember, don't do anything stupid. β
Nigel had just walked ten yards away from the Green Dragon when a female voice full of vicissitudes echoed around everyone, "Mortal, stop your steps, this is enough distance for us to talk." β
Nigel complied, paused and replied respectfully, "One of the oldest races of Wallis, the Maker of Order, the Guardian of the World, the Honorable Green Dragon, what shall we call you?"
"Iyeta, if you want a title, this is my name. The green dragon's eyes were fixed on the human in front of him, and his huge mouth did not move at all, but the sound kept coming out. "Tell me what you're here for. β
"Dear Iyeta, the purpose of our trip is to destroy the Black Dragon's eggs so that we can withstand the Dark Tide's onslaught at Magnus Fortress. Nigel's tone was flat and respectful.
"Black dragon eggs?" Iyeta's eyes widened, her eyeballs could hold almost any human.
"Yes, please help us, or Wallis will be in danger. Enoch stepped forward, but was immediately pushed back by Nigel.
"Humans, don't worry, your life is so short, I can understand that you are impatient to do anything. Iyeta's eyes circled to see the sky still bright. "There's still some time before it gets dark, so let's talk about something you should know before you try to destroy the black dragon's eggs. β
"We're listening. Nigel bowed respectfully.
"Good, that's it. The green dragon's eyes closed again, as if resting, and when she opened them again, it was already five minutes later. "Alright, I'm ready, let me tell you the origin of the black dragon. β
Everyone was no longer as nervous as they were when they first saw the green dragon, but calmly waited to the side, looking at her intently. In such a quiet green forest, facing dragons that lived dozens or even hundreds of times their lifespan, Fern felt a peace of mind, as if all the strife in the world no longer had anything to do with him.
