Chapter 11: Dark Ritual
Gwen wakes up, presided over by a beautiful angel in a training suit. The Celestial Realm looks like Elvis Presley, except that she has a venip on Gwen's wrist.
"Words of healing. ”
A tingle of familiar positive energy poured into Gwen's chest, stitching her injured muscles. Slowly, her throbbing pain vanished until all the discomfort was gone. Gradually, Gwen's refocused eyes are drawn to a silver wing badge on Elvis Presley's collar, which consists of two crossed bars and a double snake.
"Congratulations on getting your driver's license...... Gwen said to her companion in a tired voice.
"Thank you," Elvis replied, her cheeks as crisp as a lute, but then the girl's tone became even more stern Why are you and Xiaoyue both hurt!
Gwen felt a pang of guilt. In hindsight, she gives the impression that only recklessness can be compared.
"Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to summon a shield...... "She tried to explain logically that it took everything I had, next time ......"
"Humph!" Elvis snorted that there would be no "next time", at least not without me around!
"Of course, Eve," Gwen touched her friend's slender white fingers, trying to soothe her uneasiness, how about your exams?
"Good, though I'm not in danger, unlike you," Elvia recalled. "It's difficult to triage 20 patients by one person, but everyone is doing a great job. My uncle had to make some minor adjustments, but I passed with great vigour. ”
Gwen panted and said, "I'm glad to hear that. ”。
The door to the infirmary opened without knocking.
"Is she awake?"
Yue entered the room like a storm.
"Yes, almost. ”
"Hey, Xiaoyue. ”
"Gwen!" Xiao Yue leaned back on the bed and gave her friend a suffocating hug. "I have good news! Because there are a lot of 'advanced' students in the school, we need to have a personal trainer!
Personal trainer?Gwen mused. That's the good news. Usually only elite private schools have independent teachers.
"Other than that, how do you feel?"
Gwen admitted: "I'm just a little tired.
"Intravenous drip is a saline solution that will make you hydrate more," Elvia told them that I was afraid I hadn't learned the smaller fixes yet. ”
"Let's sleep again," Yue suggested, and you have completely lost your mana. ”
"I think I will. ”
"One more thing. Xiao Yue stopped in front of the door, followed by Elvis Presley. "You're going to the gear room for another meeting. The principal said to complete it as soon as possible. Before the instructor arrives. ”
"Okay. ”
The second meeting would have been very useful, but Gwen, praised Principal Bartlett for his help. She needed to figure out what those strange black phenomena were.
With her friends gone, Gwen slipped into the soft linen quilt on the infirmary's sheets, thinking about the near future. She's finally achieved her short-term goals, and now she's most concerned about the test of battle.
Blackspot's top assistants will travel into the green area in droves to perform simulated missions. They vary from year to year, sometimes retrieving items placed by an examiner and sometimes returning with evidence of completion of the conquest.
She hunted for the first time.
She killed for the first time.
Probably the first time she was injured.
Yes, now there is trouble. Gwen bit her lip until she tasted a hint of iron. She'd never gutted a fish before, and now she's supposed to kill someone? Not only that, but a living person?
Will she be able to handle it?
What happens if someone hurts her?
She imagined herself frightened, hysterical, unable to concentrate. She hadn't broken an arm in all these years, and now she had to face the possibility of a magical beast tearing a chunk of her flesh apart.
What's more-
If Xiaoyue or Elvis Presley were seriously injured, would she be able to stay calm, would she freeze, be scared, or run away?
Elvis stayed after work, waited for Gwen to wake up, and then went home together. The dormitory arranged a small celebratory dinner for the victors, and as the two entered the communal meal, cheers and applause greeted them with a melody of fireworks.
In the sumptuous feast of wild creatures, dinner is already in full swing. Rosen spared no effort to put his cutlery budget into making a meal for Blackwater's geniuses.
Once again, Elvia witnessed the appetite of teenagers, and her classmates packed enough food to feed a battalion of soldiers.
"Gwen!" Elvis Presley. A familiar voice shouted.
The girls turned to look at Jun, dressed in comfy jeans and an IndyR shirt, with a glass in each hand. Her future teammates were the first to greet and congratulate them.
"For us?" she said, taking one from his hand.
"Of course. "Jun has a habit of grinning with only the left side of his mouth and smiling crookedly.
"Here we are, ladies..."
A second voice greeted them. It was a young man with blonde hair. Their guest was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, the wound was clean, and there was a tattoo in the shape of an eye on his right hand.
"Henry Lucas Prince, at your service. The young man bowed, careful not to spill the drink in his hand. Gwen picked up the terried glass and thanked their new companion. She gave one to Elvis.
"Gwengo. ”
"Elvis Lindholm. ”
"Henry is a soothsayer," Jun said on behalf of his companion. "Tier2Air, it doesn't matter. However, he is very good at magic missiles. ”
Divination is a school of thought that does not require special elemental affinities. However, its main mantra is very useful. Real blows, hostility, magic, poisons, traps - no other school of magic has so much utility.
The girls' eyes lit up.
"Hey, my eyes are on it," Henry quipped.
"I can vouch for his expertise," Jun interjected, but not because of his personality. ”
"I can find any missing keys within three hundred meters," Henry humbly boasted and marked any target so that your spell could hit it unmistakably. ”
Gwen immediately thought of the trouble she was having with the guide bolt, which was a bolt full of positive charge. If that's the case, she'll have to make sure the boy has the proper loyalty to their cause.
She curved the glass of the flute and turned her hazel eyes to Henry's surprised face. Gwen moved her upper body, her shoulders straight, graceful, and smiled devastatingly.
Henry gulped down, but the divination failed.
"I think she likes him," Jun said cautiously, expecting Xiao Yue's confirmation.
Yue measured Henry from head to toe.
"Hey, look, but don't touch," Henry's scalp crawled.
"How good is your divination?" Yue asked.
"Impeccably clean. Henry's voice took on a more pompous tone, "Can I perform a ritual for you to watch and gaze at an uncertain future?"
"Uh, man......" Jun's face turned bright pink. Whatever the reason, all soothsayers develop a tic for the drama.
"Well, what is Elvis thinking?" Yue pulled the surprised girl up to her and placed her in front of Henry like a sacrificial ritual.
Henry announced, and a halo appeared on his head.
"Oh, no..."Elvis was startled. Where might this go?
"Ask me anything about yourself," Henry began.
"Eve, are you wearing a corset today?" her companions blurted out in unison.
The elves were turned to stone according to the petrification of the 6th layer.
Henry's face turned from white to red, then to crimson.
"Yes, he's the real deal," Yue noted.
"Very effective, very good mana conversion rate," Gwen added professionally, sipping her Coke.
Elvis turned his head to her roommate's twinkling eyes.
"You guys! she panted as her friends laughed hysterically. To everyone's surprise, she patted Xiao Yue's chest, and then patted Gwen's buttocks, attracting curious eyes from the room.
Joan turned to Henry, now beetroot.
"Are you alright?"
"Yes...... Yes......" he glanced cautiously at his friend, "how old did you say that therapist was?"
"As old as everyone else, I'm sure fifteen. ”
"Okay. Henry looked skeptical.
"What's wrong?"
“...”
"Huh?"
“...... She didn't wear a hood. ”
“...”
"Really?"
"Yes..."
"Poor Elvis," Jun sighed after a moment. "Maybe she should eat what her friends eat. ”
"I feel guilty of my sin," said Henry, sullen in anguish, who looked to be about twelve years old. ”
"Cheer up, you know we're only 16. You won't be woken up by strange things, will you? All the healers look young, it's positive. ”
"Of course I don't want ......" Henry shook his head, still thinking about the magical Bolivian salt flats.
"Anyway, that's the five of us," Jun continued, "I'll go to the head office and get the administration department done." ”
"They also need to sign," Henry added.
"No problem, I'll come again. ”
They finished their drinks with clinking glasses.
"For the field trip!"
"Oops!" Elvis dodged an angry little Yue, and next to them, Gwen giggled.
Henry and Joan blinked, overcoming their involuntary anxiety.
Will the girls definitely make it through the survival and orientation classes?
Gwen made her way down the familiar hallway to the Cognition Room for the second time. In addition to the annual review, it is a rare good thing to go again, because a large number of crystals are discharged from each exhibition. During an early morning conversation at the school gates, Gwen lamented that her last visit had ended early, and the clever headmaster must have noticed.
She checks in at the counter.
The room was the same as before. Gwen stood in the middle, waiting for the illusory magic to ignite. The room darkened, space and time folded up, and she entered her own thought arena once more.
Her summoning Siegel glowed happily, pulsating in the infinite space of the astral plane, and an occasional arc of lightning sowed cracks in the cobwebs of Lichtenberg's figure.
"Alright, come on," she muttered inwardly.
Gwen summons the lightning serpent she had previously enchanted. It was now not an electric elf, but resembled a ball python, and in its translucent body, she could see tiny particles of elemental lightning flashing back and forth.
She used her mind to explore the space beyond the evoked nebula, expanding her consciousness in search of the black particles that emitted a disgusting sensation of vertigo. Her lightning light added a layer of color to the darkness that had never been seen before, though Gwen was convinced that it was just an illusion in her head.
She soon found her prey again.
Unlike her first effort, there no longer seemed to be a large group of small maggot-like creatures hovering around Summoned Siegel, more like they were scared away by the overflow of energy.
Over there!
She felt it! She suddenly fell out of her stomach, as if she was walking into the air. She got closer, figuratively speaking, and found a whole group of creatures thick enough to form a black cavity. Seeing the cumulative effect of larval swarms made her immediately feel nauseous, as if she had motion sickness.
Gwen stepped back. It was too much, and she could feel her astral body trembling.
At the same time, however, she felt herself drawn into the vortex of inverted space, where leech-like creatures seemed to suck in all the light, their greasy skin darker than black.
What is this? Gwen felt like she was walking unluckily forward. Vaguely aware of the fate that awaits this curious cat.
She reminded herself that none of this was true;
After all, this is the Cognitive Chamber, and all its projections are just representations of her astral form field. She had never heard of anyone dying in a room, and there was only one way to find out what her strange visions portended.
Gwen suppressed an instinctive desire to escape, and instead pushed herself into a writhing mass of larvae, at which point the vertigo in her brain turned into a piercing static that froze every nerve in her body.
With a fatalistic air, Gwen reached her elbow and into the crowd.
She might as well have shot a bucket of dry ice.
Damn, did I mess up? A kind of paranoia popped into her head. The pain was so great that she almost snapped her molars.
Oh my gosh! She gasped, is this what it feels like to give birth? Two kidney stones the size of walnuts are fighting for space?
Below, reflected in cognitive hallucinations, Tenebrus, the inky liquid from the bug's body is seeping into her astral body. In her mind, the agony of pain became abstract and delicate, and with her anima, there seemed to be no end.
Gwen clung to her with the trembling force of her will, crushing something with a gelatinous texture.
Enough is enough!Gwen pleaded, she'd done enough. She's at her limit.
"Let's go!"
Gwen unleashed her lightning serpent, and a bright starlight pierced through the void. The darkness receded like a tidal wave, and immediately disappeared into the neutral nothingness of the astral layer.
Opening her hand, she saw dark dust in her palm, embedded in her flesh, appearing and disappearing at the edge of her vision.
What a terrible, stomach-churning, brain-boiling experiment! But she's already powered up. That's the key. Whether it's a wildfire or a flood, she doesn't doubt her will.
The projection is diminished, indicating that her treatment is over.
It's also timely. Gwen exhaled. It's close.
With great anticipation, she went out to get her student ID.
What will change? What will be said now? She can't wait.
A new element, maybe another kind of magic?
It would be implausible, as only the most gifted individuals have produced mages with two elements from the most incestuous clans.
"Here you go. The teacher gave her the card back.
Gwen checked her ID.
Gwensong
S. ID number: 0043598
Wake Layer::2
Elemental Affinity: Quasi-Elemental Lightning (3)
"Congratulations on your promotion. ”
Her expression seemed to say what a good student she was, and after only three months, Gwen was already in the second level.
Gwen looked at her business card again, noticing that there were no other noticeable differences.
She hesitated. Is she mistaken? Isn't the dark bug sweet at all?
The pain of misunderstanding? This is nonsense! Gwen felt deceived by the gear room. It's amazing for her! Not even a consolation prize?
"Miss Song, are you okay?" the teacher asked. Now that she behaved better with the notorious student, she noticed that Gwen looked a little haggard. Her cheeks were yellow and sunken, her bags were visibly puffy, and she looked like she hadn't slept in days.
"You've gone too far," she said worriedly. "If you break down, it's not good for you. ”
Gwen also noticed a decline in her health.
"I don't think so-
She wanted to speak, but choked on dust in her throat.
Oh, no, no, no, again, Gwen felt a sinking feeling, just like she had shown in Hyde Park. Her world began to spin, drowning in that strange vertigo. She stumbled in the frightened arms of her coach, as if someone had cut the rope that held her up.
"Why are you here again?!" Elvis' voice rang out sharply, full of frustration and disappointment. She'd been nagging Gwen for the past ten minutes.
"What training are you doing behind our backs?"
"I'm sorry Eve..."
"If only I could interrupt......" a macho voice with a thick European accent spoke next to them. It was the doctor who was teaching Elvis, Dr. Lindholm, her uncle. "Gwen, I want you to be very honest with me......"
"I'll ......," Gwen replied, a little worried about what would happen if anyone found out about her "true" condition.
"You are ... Dieting?"
"No......," Gwen replied, confused.
"Okay," he turned to Elvis Presley, who was sure that Gwen wasn't hiding anything bad.
"Gwen has enough for the two of us......" Elvis Presley said sourly.
Gwen blushed.
"Yes.... So," the doctor continued. "Are you sexually active?"
"Uncle!!"
"I'm sorry, what?" Gwen almost spat at Elvis Presley's uncle. The look on her face was astonishing.
"Ahh "I'm serious. Elvis's uncle appeared indifferent, leaving the two girls ashamed of their faux pas. "I mean, apart from the people in the dorm, the people who have problems, maybe the people who abuse drugs, have you ever gone out with anyone else......"
"No, never. I've been training ......"
"Elvis Presley?" the good doctor didn't seem to respect the girls' honesty.
"It's true, uncle. Gwen trained as if it were her religion. ”
"No stranger danger?"
“...”
"Very good...... Very good...... Can you elaborate on your training?"
Gwen tells him what she can do.
"I ......see," he replied, "I'm afraid you're not suffering from a loss of mana, but actually a loss of life force." I know it says to develop your mana reserves, but from the early spell theory, it's still a questionable truth. ”
Gwen recalls lectures over the past few months.
"Loss of vitality ... It's like a loss of life?"
"Yes," Elvis Presley's uncle replied worriedly, "I think the symptoms indicate a loss of negative energy, but you've entered the positive energy layer, so it's almost impossible." ”
"That's ......," Gwen paused. She remembered the strange black clumps and black bugs. "No way, next time I'll be more careful with my mana management. ”
After all, she is notorious for her terrible magical management.
"If you don't mind, I need to take some blood samples," the doctor said. "In case there is a quasi-magical cause of the disease. ”
Gwen nodded dignifiedly.
"Will Gwen be alright?" asked Elvis. "Wouldn't she be too weak to donate blood?"
"It's alright, Eve. Her uncle replied kindly.
As the syringe penetrated her skin, Gwen looked away. Phlebotomy was relatively painless, although she had always been afraid of needles and couldn't bear to look at them. A few vials of blood quickly filled the shelves, and Gwen looked paler than before.
"That's all I need," Elvis Presley's uncle sealed the bottle with a label. "Give you treatment now. Please sit up straight with your arms relaxed and your chin up. ”
The doctor put his hand on her heart.
"Small fixes!"
"Heal a moderate wound!"
A flood of positive energy flooded her astral form. Gwen's body greedily absorbed the healing mana.
She suddenly felt more energetic, in fact, Gwen felt better than ever.
"She's healthy and can go," the doctor said.
"Thank you, uncle. ”
"Thank you, sir," Gwen admitted, still feeling a little dizzy with a sudden surge of energy.
"Get some sleep," he suggested. "You need to get a good rest when you get home. I'll write you a script and ask for leave tomorrow. ”
"Thanks again, sir. ”
Elvis Presley's uncle is gone.
"Nothing, Gwynnie, really?" Elvis relentlessly traced Gwen's illness.
"Of course. I'm fine, Eve. ”
"All right," Elvis Presley whispered. She hugged Gwen and buried her face in her chest like a kitten. "You're so skinny. ”
"Yes ... I'm starving... I can eat a whole Orurke now......"
"What's wrong?" asked Xiao Yue as she watched Gwen climb up the third quail.
Elvia told her what her uncle had said.
"The training is a bit too hard, hey?" Mr. Yue glanced at Gu Wen suspiciously, and Gu Wen was about to swallow and drink water immediately. "If you're running low on mana, I've got some spare crystals. ”
"Uh-huh, uh-huh......" replied.
"Don't talk all the way around," Elvis Presley and Xiao Yue corrected her immediately.
Gwen swallowed, her stomach swollen like a balloon. She patted it playfully.
Gwen was disgusted by what she saw in the bathroom mirror. Whatever the reason, she unconsciously slipped from comfortable slimness to anorexia. Her hip bones protruded, and the pain in her ribs was clearly visible, far beyond the softness of the movement. Even in her previous life, working 60 hours a week, she managed to go to the gym between work and weekends to exercise enough time to maintain an enviable appearance.
Beauty is vanity, but it is also social capital!
That's why Gwen ordered a double serving of protein and carbs, hoping to regain a healthy weight. After dinner, she would go for a jog in the neighborhood!
Two of her friends watched as their slender companions ate another bite.
Elvis Presley touched her chest.
Is it a secret?
