Chapter 57: Showing and Telling

While dangerous and spooky plans brew below, Gwen is busy marveling at the fluffy dΓ©cor of Elvia's chalk bedroom. The furniture is like a catalog: a four-poster bed, satin sheets, antique white walls, and shelves full of stuffed animals.

Elvia sat on the side, swinging her legs back and forth, a cute life-size doll. The two had already gone to the rest of the house, greeting the guests, sipping non-alcoholic cocktails and stealing snacks. Gwen is enjoying the happiest time of her life. In her previous life, she had never had a friend like Elvia, so she was a little intoxicated by the joy of it all.

"Why does your brother have so much curry?" Gwen borrowed an old Australian proverb.

"Formal like a boy or girl?" Gwen frowned inexplicably.

Elvia tilted her head in confusion, and sometimes Gwen said the most hateful of things.

"It's like our field trips. However, their stories take place all over the world. As a result, they have access to different areas on three continents. The final trial was from schools in first-tier cities. ”

"Sounds rude," Gwen said. She hadn't met a mage of the same age from a first-tier city yet.

"Yes, but it's worth it. If other schools are like you, you might get a scholarship!

"Then why don't you go to Lilith's house?"

Elvia rolled onto the bed.

"I'm scared," she replied, saying that I was afraid that I couldn't be as special as all the girls out there, that I would be woken up by something mundane. You should know that I went to Lilith's prep school. There are people there whose entire families are quasi-elementalists. ”

"Okay, you're a positive energy mage, your uncle is one, your dad is one, you're a good guy, aren't you?"

Elvia shook her head.

"He's a soothsayer. ”

"Your brother?"

"Water is unforgivable. ”

"Okay then," Gwen tried your mom one last time?"

Elvia smiled.

"She's a positive magician!"

"We're leaving!" Gwen exclaimed. No wonder Elaina looks so radiant and fresh. Usually, those with positive energy age very little. On the contrary, a person like her, who is tormented by negative energy, may not age at all because she is young.

"Well, anyway, your family has a spectrum of positive energy, so ......"

"I'm still scared. Elvia pouted, who knows, if I turn into something weird, like an Earth Magician? ”

"Why do you think so? No one in your family is an earth mage, nor is it a magician!"

"Eric said I was a weirdo and I might wake up like a rock. ”

"You're an angel!" Gwen hugged her motherly friend in her arms, basking in the positive energy. "Last time, you told me you were afraid of being framed. ”

"Yes, too. Avia felt a little hot on her face. Gwen was very close. "Many of the girls in Lilith's family got married as soon as they graduated, and I was afraid that my mother would have prepared them for me. ”

"Why do you think that?"

"She's an alumnus and her dad is a graduate of Prince. ”

"Yes. Gwen stared at the ceiling, a tiny chandelier flickering and they were happy together?"

"Good," Elvia admitted.

"Don't you want that yourself?"

"I don't know. ”

"It's okay, Eve. Do you regret coming to our school?"

Elvia shook her head and spread her pale yellow hair on the bed.

"I'm glad to meet you and Yue. Elvia's accidental homophony made Gwen giggle.

Evia looked cute, and Gwen leaned over and kissed her on the forehead like a sister. In response, her friend put his hand on her forehead and blushed violently. Gwen pinched Evia's rosy cheek.

"I'm getting thirstier. "She gets up from Elvia's bed, shall we go down?"

"Of course," Elvia said calmly, rubbing her forehead where Gwen kissed her.

When they returned to the party, two young mages were dueling on the docks.

Both contestants are swimmers, one male and one female. The young man was a groundhog. At the moment, he was throwing the second layer of obsidian spear directly at the weak-looking girl. The girl seemed to be a blower, dodging the spear and flying around. The exchange continued for a few minutes until the difference in speed between them became apparent. The summoner's shield is sliced off until the transparent underlay of his mana shield becomes visible.

In desperation, the summoner turned to a first-tier stone projectile to preserve his mana, but the shapeshifter was too fast. After another spell exchange, his shield shimmered. When the lad threw up his arms in surrender, the shapeshifter laughed mischievously. With a bang, the young man flew up and landed in the water, making a spectacular splash.

The room erupted in cheers. Congratulations to the winner and her relatives. The girl gracefully walked back along the pier and dragged the young man out of the water. Laughter echoed, and the young man was comforted.

Gwen was impressed with this sportsmanship. A friendly mage duel!

Eve, how often.

"Gwen Song, we're going to challenge you to a duel!" shouted Eric Lindholm, Elvia's grumpy blonde brother.

Gwen's mind went blank. Eric wants to duel her? The boy was a junior, and he was a water confessor. Even though Eric had a talent for early risers, it wasn't until late adolescence that mages began to use their abilities.

"Duel with me?" Gwen made a double choice. "I'm your senior. ”

"Of course, you don't think we're challenging you one-on-one, do you?"

"Do you want to collude with me?" Gwen growled.

"You're the legendary lightning elementalist, aren't you?"

"Probably. Gwen frowned, but once three times, a girl could only withstand so much. I'm not as experienced as you might think. ”

Eric took a deep sip of carmine without warning. "Gwen Song, do you want a duel or not? We're all on the second layer, so there's a whole layer of spells in front of you. ”

"Eve?" Gwen asked her friend for advice. Elvia was similarly confused.

"Why are you dueling Gwen?" her friend asked, narrowing his blue eyes suspiciously.

"Why do you care? Didn't you say she could kick me in the ass?"

"I'm sure she will. ”

"I agree. Gwen gave Elvia a thumbs up.

Eric raised his voice so that everyone around him could hear him. "Song of the Black Thorns, we at Prince College, Eric Lindholm, Lionel Zachary and Todd Smith, challenge you to a duel of honor!"

Elvia's smile vanished.

"Eric, you can't bring the prince here! you're going to get Gwen in trouble!"

"Wait, what's going on?" Gwen said confusedly. When it comes to these superficial rituals and social norms, she may be like a blind man riding a deaf donkey.

The rest waited for Gwen's response.

"Eveβ€”do I accept it?"

"I don't knowβ€”" Elvia searched the crowd for help.

Thankfully, Richard stepped up.

"Gwen, you should teach these kids a humble lesson," he said unyieldingly, winning or losing, they won't bother you anymore. I promise you. ”

In anticipation, Gwen wondered what the masters thought of all this. She noticed Elvia's father shrugging his shoulders while Eliana was being stared at her son.

Gwen looked at Richard again.

"Three against one, Richard, are you sure?"

"Give him a new one," her cousin replied, kicking his ass hard with a twinkle in his eye, and Eric turned into a man. ”

"Ahemβ€”" Elvia's father choked on the olive.

Gwen saw the eager faces of the children.

"Alright!" she held the boy's hand, let's duel!"

Elvia looked at the dock worriedly.

"Did you bring Kosi?"

"Why?" asked Gwen, is Eric going to push me into the water?

She showed off her storage ring.

But I had to wear this dress. Don't worry, Eve, I'll be right back. ”

Below, Richard stands in front and middle of the crowd while an older, Maggs-rank gentleman introduces himself to the duo.

"Be the first to break through the shield," the mage solemnly declared to minimize damage to the surrounding environment, and if you destroy it, you will pay the price. ”

Gwen strode to the end of the dock. On either side of the boat, huge ancient, salt-soaked wooden pillars hold the pontoons in place, and the pea-green waters below sway as they beckon to the next victim. The cousin carefully knelt on the ground and took off her high heels, her black hair draped over her shoulders as she unfastened each one.

Richard's glasses sparkled. He could tell that Gwen had at least a small storage ring, which was something unusual in the Borderlands.

The Prince children quickly settled across the street.

Their adjudicator cast a levitation spell, floating at a safe distance.

"Are you ready?"

Gwen nodded.

The children nodded.

"Let's go!"

"Lightning strikes!" Gwen opened with her signature spell, a hysterical electric current ionizing out of the air around the boys, slamming into the dock floor with blue-white tentacles made of pure plasma.

"Water shield!" Eric expanded the barrier of flowing water around him in one hemisphere. To Richard's surprise, the shield draws water from the surrounding sea water to strengthen itself.

"Absorb the elements!" Eric strengthened their team's defense.

On the boy's shield, Gwen's lightning slashed into the glowing figure of Lichtenberg and flowed harmlessly into the bay, killing the fish feeding on the barnacles.

Richard whistled. Eric is a better giveaway than he initially thought.

"Thunderbolt!" Gwen raised her intensity. With enough offensive power, all tricks will come to naught. "Take a break!"

Her arrows pierced Eric's barrier, blowing up the two junior mages hiding behind the boy's shield. Gwen shouted triumphantly, only to see the corpse disappear into the ether.

"Ahh Projected image. ”

Gwen immediately turned to the defensive. To Richard's surprise, his cousin's shield was no less powerful than a true confessor.

Nonsense! Nonsense!

The barrier appeared just in time, and three pieces of ice slipped out of her hemisphere, changing the position where they hit the opacity. Although Chad's third-year students were novices, their volleys were powerful, and the last boy was an inspiration, let alone a quasi-elementalist like Gwen.

Nonsense! Nonsense!

The second magic missile hits Gwen's shield. Richard pursed his lips. His cousin shouldn't have defended her all the time, because sooner or later something would happen to her.

"Flashbang!"

Bang!

Explosions of sound and light erupted suddenly above the three boys' heads.

Richard's eyes were filled with the sparkle of victory, the dazzling light of his cousin's spell.

Gwen racked her brains to find a way to work. When she was left out, she relied too much on Kaliban and Ariel, and now she is battling her utilitarian school of magic. In particular, she strives to show awareness of magic, a spell that discerns if the boys are tricking her with hallucinations.

For her current fight, she felt as if she was beating wool. Her current conjuring repertoire such as Bootbolt, Lightning Blast, and Lightning doesn't help opponents much, and she can't brute force. Each of her main spells excels in direct combat, but she lacks the utility to catch the boy.

To win the game, she must improvise and then grab the prince's children on the paws of her hind feet. Therefore, Gwen forced himself to calm down and waited for a surprise attack by Magill missiles.

Nonsense! Nonsense!

The ice shattered, and her double-glazed barrier turned milky white.

Immediately, she withdrew her shield and cleared her vision. Across the dock, she saw Eric. The second figure hides behind Eric, while the third boy hides behind his hallucinations.

Gwen raised her hand.

Eric pushed more mana into his shield.

"Flashbang!"

Gwen casts a spell to channel her mana into manifestation. The unstable crystal ionized from the thin air, sending a discordant sound and light directly over the boys' heads.

"Ahh

"Damn it!"

Lightning turned Eric's barrier bright white, piercing his eyes. The young man hiding behind Eric was on his knees with his hands on his ears.

Meanwhile, Gwen takes advantage of this shocking distraction to cast a "detection magic".

With two clicks, Gwen glanced at her surroundings. Eric and his companions are taking the count for the time being, but where is the third guy? What about their magician?

Her electric blue eyes scanned her surroundings.

Behind Eric, the Awakened begins to recover, realizing that she must make a phone call, and Gwen points her finger at the two whimpering.

"Lightning!"

A jagged plasma streaked through their air. The third spell hits the water shield, dispersing the particles of water and electrifying the surface of the water.

"Ahh His shield crackled, but it didn't move.

Gwen cursed. She underestimated these excellent students, who were neither like the little chips of the Black Acacia Tree, nor like the casually trained mages of Blackheath.

Unlike her, the boys' foundation is built on a privileged life of access to resources and education. In a one-on-one match, she could smell Eric, but now she's up against three little guys.

Similarly, while she fights alone, Eric throws a party. Although the confessor only focuses on the defense, she must do both at the same time.

β€œ!β€œ

Gwen couldn't help but feel the mana gather behind her.

Instinctively, she jumped into the water.

A wave of water suddenly erupted where she had been standing a second ago. If it weren't for her hunch, she would have been hit and fell into the water. However, before she could erect her mana shield and soak through her transparent linen clothes, the liquid rushed over her.

"Damn the oath!" Gwen cursed under her breath, the sea water running down her skirt, making her feel ashamed and embarrassed. "Well, you brought it on yourself--

Gwen was furious. She wasn't willing to show all her trump cards, but she might as well give them a show. This is the spirit of Christmas, after all.

The magician could see it now, apparently pleased with his sneak attack. The other boys were moving upwards, supporting him, recovering from their stunned state.

Gwen took a deep breath.

"Jump!" she jumped back. This is a well-known transmutation prayer, one that has no reason to drama or doubt. At the same time, she activates the feather drop effect stored in the ring.

She hovered over the docks for a moment.

"Ice Spike!"

"Magic missile!"

Both the summoner and the magician have recovered from their spell fatigue and are now back on their attacks.

A glittering orb surrounded Gwen. Her stolen confession made her obstacles disappear almost instantly.

Nonsense!

Twit ! Tash !

Electric sparks flew from her shield. The children seemed stunned and couldn't imagine Gwen, an awakened one, with an impassable shield.

Gwen began to decline.

"Walding Bolt!" she used a new spell.

In the next moment, two orbs appeared next to the outline of her silhouette, each a living ball of lightning full of menace.

"It's called lightning!" formed a menacing cloud above Gwen's head, quickly coalescing together and obscuring the sun.

A commotion erupted in the crowd of onlookers, taking people by surprise.

Gwen's shield disappears into the atmosphere.

"Iceβ€”"

"Magicβ€”"

"No!" Eric suddenly realized that Gwen's spell didn't need to be cast on her own initiative.

Smack-smack!

Each globe emits a burst of electricity that strikes the young mage. The clouds above also showed its strength, raining down an arm-thick purple plasma.

Gwen watched Elvia's brother grunt, and somehow he insisted on opposing her semi-autonomous volley.

"Lightning!"

She added to their already impressive burden.

On the third volley, Eric's absorption weakened.

The kids are at their limits.

Gwen uses the gut grabbing method to eliminate spell fatigue. Thanks to the summon, her turret spell delivers the full payload at double the cost.

Finally, with the last bit of mana, she pointed a finger at the sky, and then waved, pointing at the lowest point.

"Thunderbolt!"

The clouds above them rumbled.

Crack!

Three separate bolts are connected into one.

No number of reinforced shielding and absorbing elements can withstand the combined action of lightning, protective bolts, and blasting bolts. In front of the crowd, a tidal current swept over the three men, sky blue and white, violet and amethyst, staggered until the boys were barely visible.

"Stop, stop, the winner is Gwen Song!" their referee shouted.

Gwen cut off her magical pathway.

The electricity is out of power.

The boys were dressed even more ugly, their clothes smoky from the heat, their bodies numb from static electricity.

"We surrender!" both the magician and the summoner raised their hands.

"Have you given in, Eric?" asked Gwen.

"I surrender," Elvia's brother declared in frustration.

Gwen exhaled.

"You're in luck," Eric grumbled.

Little bastard!Gwen gritted her teeth, eager to teach the boy a lesson. When Eric tried to give her a handshake as if they were equal insults to hurt, she instead pulled him closer and kissed him on the cheek.

As expected, the young man jumped back, as if bitten by the red back, and stammered incoherently out of the laughter of the crowd.

"Thank you for the duel, ma'am," the children of the remaining princes introduced themselves to Dowtard Smith, at your disposal. ”

"Again, ma'am. The other boy bowed to Lionel Zachary. ”

"Nice to meet you two," Gwen replied please, Gwen is fine. ”

"May we ask a question, ma'am?" said Lionel, in a reserved tone.

"Of course. Gwen smiled, even though she remembered her soaked clothes.

"Are you ... Are you a mage?"

"Hah!" Gwen snorted. "No, I'm just a student. ”

Behind them, the crowd erupted.

"Did you see that?"

"Who discovered the magic?"

"She's using magic! Isn't she someone who evokes memories?"

In the middle of the crowd stood Elvia, her mouth half-open, not in disbelief. Similarly, her parents were glaring at Gwen.

Not far from Elvia, her cousin's thoughts raced. Richard was anxious to know the depth of Gwen's talent. He wanted to know what she was familiar with. Now that he saw her talent, he felt that there were more questions left unanswered.

Except for him, the crowd boiled, filled with questions that Gwen couldn't answer even if he had an answer. When finally the girl becomes too flustered, she takes her friend Elvia's hand and disappears into the multi-layered depths of Lindholm.
