Chapter 69: The Whale
In the cold seas of the north, whaling ships are the most common human creation.
Bretania hunts the giants of the sea with its mighty steam-engine ships, dismembering them like slaughterhouses floating on the surface of the sea, with nothing but blood and rancid stench everywhere they go.
Farther north, even beyond the coastline of the Holy Loren Empire, where the snow and ice have not melted, the people here still maintain the hunting methods from their ancient ancestors, forming fleets of small boats, chasing whales, and hunting only small sea beasts for their meat.
That's how the ancient Esyad people hunted whales.
In this small port town, more merchant ships are moored along the docks, but whalers who have inherited their primitive skills can also be found.
"We need a bigger ship, a seasoned hunter. ”
Magellan hadn't been to this small city in the far north before, but the gold coins with the king's face could run rampant throughout the human world, and with the baron's knightly demeanor, they could easily find an empty ship willing to go to sea.
Luckily, the ship's captain was a former whaler who adhered to the ancient tradition of Esyad hospitality and invited a few guests to a sumptuous dinner.
The next morning, they set off.
The weather was not good, although it was a sunny day, the clouds took up half of the sky, the sun appeared and disappeared in the sky, and the sea breeze was unbearable.
People here are accustomed to such weather, sailors are busy on deck, and sailboats are heading towards the deep sea.
Magellan and Professor Granger stayed in the cabin to escape the cold wind, looking for a way to enter the Divine Domain, while Brunhilde and the Baron stayed on deck.
The Valkyrie looked out at the boundless ocean, caught up in distant memories, and beside her, the baron was also in a trance.
He didn't care what ancestors, some distant ancient heroes of Esyad. The baron had first followed Magellan out of the castle to see the sea, but now he had seen the sea.
However, the baron would follow Magellan until the end of the trip, when he promised his guests that he would help them find the Domain.
Thinking so, the baron turned and walked to the other side of the deck, where the sea was full of webs of waves, and there were no whales to be found.
The so-called "whale migration route" is actually a very ethereal thing, and the captains who have been whaling in this area for more than 20 years do not know such a route, and everyone has little confidence in this voyage.
However, Magellan has always been optimistic, his idea is different from others, the place that the ancient Esyadians can find must be within the range of modern human activities, and the only reason why the "green land" has not yet been discovered is that it is hidden by the power or magic of the gods, which are effective for mortals, but not for Valkyries and barons.
Just because it was hidden by supernatural powers, the old hunter didn't even know about the "whale migration route", which didn't mean it didn't exist.
The sailing ship sailed on the sea, and the temporary destination chosen by Magellan for the captain was an island far northwest, an inaccessible place that was now inhabited.
According to Magellan's calculations, the ancient Esyadian warrior did not have the ability to sail far, his ship was a small boat that could only accommodate one person, there was very little fresh water on board, and there was almost no food on board, and even if the warrior had the great power of the gods, his journey would not be too long.
Before the ship reached the island, they should have passed where Schmidt's ancestors had departed, and Brunhilde might not have been able to undo the magic, but she would not be unaware.
Of course, this is not the reason why Magellan himself hid in the cabin and the Valkyrie stood on deck.
Time passed quickly, the sea was impossibly calm, and nothing happened.
Then suddenly a sailor cried.
"Fountains!"
Everybody knows that it represents whales, and even pods of whales.
The captain exclaimed excitedly, although he was no longer a hunter, it was rare good luck to see a whale in half a day's time, and this giant beast usually lives only in the deep sea far from the coast.
"Turn the rudder!"
According to the original plan, the captain turned the rudder and leaned towards the whale, and Magellan, who heard the shouts from the deck, stepped out of the cabin, he was a little surprised, after all, it was not too far from the coast.
"What a beautiful animal!"
Before today, Professor Granger had never seen a whale alive, and it was truly an animal with a unique charm, whether it was its deep blue skin, the smooth lines formed to live in the sea, or the slowness that came with its massity.
These are three whales of different sizes, which look like a school of whales, they float from the sea, breathe on the surface, and after the fountain disappears, they sink back into the water, leaving only a huge splash.
The baron stood on the deck, stunned as he watched the beast disappear into the water.
"Will they ever come back?"
"Not anymore. ”
The captain sighed contentedly and began to beckon the sailors to raise the sails again, the whales would not return for a short time, and they were going to continue their journey.
"Do you feel it?"
Magellan and Brünnhilde were probably the only ones on deck who remained calm, standing together, looking for possible traces of magic.
"There's the power of rune here," Valkyrie looked confused, "but now it's gone." ”
"That's good news," said Magellan, who was wearing an eyepatch, but he wasn't as disappointed as Brunhilde, "There's only one possibility, and there is something wrong with the whales." ”
"But they're gone, and probably never come back. ”
"Possibly. ”
Magellan didn't say anything more, he was always the most confident of all.
"Maybe I should take a war horse and search alone, anyway, you don't know the right direction, at least it's a little faster. ”
Brunhilde could feel the breath of the Divine Domain, and the feeling grew clearer and stronger, and the memories that she had forgotten long ago seemed like a tidal wave rushing in, making it difficult for her to hold on.
"That's true," Magellan smiled, "but there's no need, we'll find green space, and besides, entering there doesn't mean entering the Divine Domain." ”
"So far, haven't you found a way?"
"The abode of the gods is not easily open to mortals, and even heroes are only eligible to enter Valhalla if they die in battle, you know. ”
Brünnhilde sighed.
She knew that the Valkyrie had given up hundreds of years ago.
"But there is hope. ”
