Chapter 244: Deliberation (II)
"I know!" replied Evan in a low voice.
"But the choice is not in my hands. It's up to someone else. β
"I see. Wade said with a sigh. "Those important people, I think. Like elven nobles, kings, and knights. β
Suddenly, the words that Evan had said sounded in his head. We love human life deeply.
Suddenly, Wade's throat felt like something was choking.
He covered his face with his hands, and the adventure began to turn out to be not right at all.
Where's Robert? Where's Calamon? Where's pretty Lena?
He tried to avoid thinking of them, especially after that nightmare.
And Hubble - I shouldn't have left him alone, Wade thought sadly.
He could be dead, maybe he's dead!
I never thought that any of us would dieβnever seriously.
I always think that as long as we are together, we can overcome all difficulties!
But now, we're scattered all over the place. Something is wrong!
Wade felt Evan touch his ponytail, a trait he was most proud of.
For the first time in their lives, little Kande began to feel scared, helpless, and overwhelmed.
The mage hugged the ground lovingly. Wade buried his little face in the mage's sleeve and cried loudly.
Evan patted him gently.
"Yes!" the mage repeated, "it is the important ones. β
The Council of St. White Rock was convened on the twenty-eighth day of December, and the people of Sorenia called this day "the day of famine." It commemorates the suffering of our ancestors in the first winter after the cataclysm.
Sir Swart thought it fitting that the Council of St. White Rock should be convened on this day of fasting and prayer.
It's been a month since the army marched to Paranzas, and the news that Swart has received from the city is not promising.
In fact, he had just received an urgent shipment this morning.
He repeated it twice, sighed heavily, and tucked the piece of paper into his belt.
The Council of St. White Rock has only met once recently, for the arrival of elven refugees in South Atlantis.
The Dragons appeared at the Council of St. White Rock in Northern Sorenia. The convening of the council usually takes months to plan.
This would ensure that every member, including those who have the right to vote, and only those who have the right to attend, will be able to attend.
Voting rights include the Sorenian Knights, gnomes, hill dwarves, dark-skinned, seafaring representatives of the inhabitants of Northern Atlantis, and a representative of the Sorenian Knights living in St. Quest.
Those who can only attend the consultation include elves, mountain dwarves, and Kanders.
These members are invited to express their opinions, but do not have the right to vote.
The first parliament actually didn't go well. Old inter-ethnic conflicts are once again on the table. Yaman, the representative of the mountain dwarves.
Oscar, as well as Duncan Hummorrah, the representative of the Hill Dwarves, must be closely guarded, or the bloody conflict of the past may be repeated.
Albert Starlight attended in place of his father and became the representative of Sivanasti, refusing to express his opinion throughout the meeting.
Albert's attendance was purely due to the presence of Friar Bo of Wellington. She fears an alliance between humans and the Wellington elves, so she decides to sabotage their friendship.
In fact, Albert did not need to worry at all.
There has been a long history of mistrust between humans and elves, and the two sides only talk out of politeness.
Sir Lienswalt's rousing speech, in which he called for "peace is brought about by unity, and when there is division, hope ends!", did not move too many people, many more just sneered and did not waver in their hearts.
Boxiu's response was to blame humans for the appearance of dragons. Therefore, humanity should solve this catastrophe on its own.
As soon as Friar Bo took his position, Albert got up and left, and the attitude of the Sivanasti Elves could no longer be questioned.
The mountain dwarf Arman Oscar declares that his people are willing to help, but it will only be unifying until Oscar's hammer appears, and Swart is forced to ignore this power.
In fact, the only one who zealously offered to help was the Kander's chieftain, Clinton Syrant.
But as long as there is still a shred of rationality, the 'assistance' of the Kander army will inevitably be shunned, so everyone only laughs politely, but exchanges frightened glances behind their backs.
As a result, the first meeting was dissolved without any progress.
Swart had high expectations for the second meeting. The appearance of this secret treasure of the dragon god has brought many new opportunities.
Representatives of the elves of both races have arrived, including a Sun Chanter who is said to be a Palatine human priest. Swart learned a lot about Elistan from Stone, and he was eager to see him.
But who will represent Sivanasti, Swart is not sure. He speculated that the delegate in attendance would be the nobleman who was engaged to Albert. Because of Albert's mysterious disappearance, he may take her place temporarily.
The elves had arrived in St. Quest two days earlier.
They set up their tents in the wilderness, and the bright silk flags fluttered in the wind, creating a strong contrast to the gray sky.
They were the only alien race to participate.
Because the council did not have time to send messengers to inform the mountain dwarves, and the hill dwarves were locked in a life-and-death struggle with the dragon legions, no messenger could reach their territory.
Swart hopes that this meeting will unite the elves and humans to resist the threat of the dragon legion and drive them out of Ansellon.
Unfortunately, before the meeting began, his hopes were dashed.
Swart read the report from the Paranthas army again, and left the camp, hoping to finalize the St. Whitestone Prairie, where the meeting was to be held.
Wells, his butler, rushed behind him.
"Your Excellency!" said the old man, panting. "Go back. β
"What's the matter?" asked Swart. But the old butler was out of breath and speechless.
Knight Sorenia sighed and walked back to his tent. He noticed Sir Michael in full armor and was pacing nervously.
"How?" Swart's heart sank at the sight of the young knight's ugly face.
Michael stepped forward quickly and grabbed Swart's arm. "My lord, we have received news that the elves are preparing to claim the Dragon God's secret treasure.
If we don't give it, they will not hesitate to declare war to reclaim the dragon god's secret treasure. β
"What?" said Swart, incredulous. "A declaration of war on us? This is ridiculous!
They can't -- are you sure? How reliable is that information?"
"Pretty reliable, I'm afraid, Sir Swart. β
"My lord, I introduce to you, this is Elistan, the priest of Paladin. Michael said.
"I didn't introduce him first, which is rude. Forgive me for losing my sense of proportion by this shocking news. β
"I've heard a lot about you, sir. Sir Swart held out his hand to the man.
Swart looked at Elistan curiously, unsure of what kind of person he expected Paladin to be.
Most of them will be a pale and thin scholar who has become pale and thin, and his eyes are divine. But Swart really didn't expect such a tall, strong man who could mount and fight with the most elite knights.
He wears Palatin's amulet around his neck and white gold jewelry engraved with a dragon on one side.
Swart remembered what Stone had told him. Included is the part where the priest tries to convince the elves to cooperate with humans.
Elistan smiled wearily, as if reading through Swart's thoughts. His answer thus contributes to these questions.
"That's right, I failed. Elistan admitted. "I can only convince them to come to this meeting, but the purpose of their visit.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's just to give you an ultimatum: return the dragon god's secret treasure to the elves, or prepare for a fight. β
Swart slumped into a chair and waved weakly for the others to follow suit.
On the table in front of him was a map of Anceron spread out, the shadowed part representing the occupied area of the Dragon Legion. Swart's gaze fell on the map, and he suddenly swept everything to the ground.
"We might as well give up now!" he yelled. "Send a letter to the Dragoon: 'You don't need to take a hard time. We can take care of it for you!" he angrily threw the news he had just received on the table.
"Look, the news is coming from Paranzas. The inhabitants there insisted that the knights must leave the city. The men of the city of Paranthas were negotiating with the dragoons, and the presence of the knights 'seriously confused their position'.
That's why they refuse to provide any assistance, and thousands of Paranthas troops are there!"
"What is Sir Derek doing, my lord?" asked Michael.
He and his knights, along with thousands of foot soldiers, and the refugees from Sautir, were entrenched at the Tower of the King of France, south of Paranzas. Swart said tiredly.
"It overlooks the only pass in the Minga Mountains. We're going to protect Paranthas for the time being, in case the dragon legions pass through there......" he fell silent.
"Damn!" he whispered, gently pounding his fist against the table, "with only two thousand troops to hold that pass!"
These fools!, the elves are making fun again!" he gestured to the elves' tent.
Thousands of years ago, humans lived in harmony with elves and dwarves and did not suspect each other.
However, due to the continuous development of human society, the demand for materials has become more and more intense, and even invaded the territory of the elves.
It was then that the elves realized that they could no longer maintain the same pure friendship with humans as they had before.
The dwarves produced sophisticated weapons and armor, and the humans felt that they were also profitable, and blindly demanded them as allies for little pay.
The honest dwarves could not stand the greed of humans, so they cut off trade with humans, and the indestructible alliance of the three tribes has since collapsed.
