Chapter 586: Alone in the Lava Cave
Just as Carl had expected, it was exactly six o'clock in the evening when he reached the entrance to the underground cavern. He glanced at his watch, then placed his backpack on the ground. There were still campfires left for the Duchy Expedition, so Carl easily found the marked resting place. He collected some twigs from the surrounding bushes and spread them on a campfire, then lit them with flint.
The short break will be of great help to the battle ahead, as Carl knows that after entering the cave, there may be unexpected dangers hidden around him. He didn't want to be a skeleton too soon, that wasn't the way he wanted it to end. Although the end of oneself is unpredictable, at least the bad ending can be avoided through efforts.
Carl left for nearly half an hour or so before departing, using the time to check the condition of his weapons and ammunition. He passed through a river on the way, so he had to check the ammunition in the bullet pouch for moisture. Thankfully, he remembered to take the bullet pouch off his belt and hold it in his hand as he crossed the river, but he didn't want to be negligent and fall short.
After making all the preparations, he stepped into the entrance of the underground cavern. This meant that he was in another world, and everything that could be seen in the underground caverns of the Affalia region had nothing to do with the world above the surface. It doesn't matter if it's a monster or a strange plant, they have nothing to do with the world on earth. Perhaps this also represents the living and the dead, light and darkness.
As he progressed along the marks left by the Duchy Exploration Party, Karl felt the heat more and more, and the temperature around him continued to rise, indicating that he had not taken the wrong path in the complex labyrinthine underground cavern, and that he was getting closer and closer to the lava cave. So he holds a revolver in his hand, ready to deal with the sudden appearance of monsters. The closer you get to your destination, the more likely you are to encounter monsters, a rule in the underground caverns of the Affalia region.
In order to keep his sight good, Carl drank the cat's eye drops before entering the cave. Although he would be blind for a short time if he suddenly encountered bright light, Carl felt that it was unlikely that he would be able to bathe in bright light in a dark underground cavern. He soon heard the sound of lava surging and a glimmer of light in front of him. While it is not known if the Kayak volcano is really as magical as Krent says, it will not stop Carl from moving forward.
When he turned a corner, a slightly open space appeared in front of him. However, there are four more lava pools of different sizes than normal caves. It didn't seem to be a natural formation, but rather the magic of what Krent called magma. Carl cautiously walked over the ground between the two lava pools, carefully dodging the occasional splash of lava.
Carl, who had a keen sense of hearing, heard a sudden low roar from the lava pool, and he tightened his grip on the handle of the revolver in his right hand, and unhurriedly pulled out the other revolver in the holster with his other hand. Just as the corpse robbers had always appeared, they suddenly dug out of the ground coldly, and a roar of thirst for flesh was heard.
Perhaps this is what Krent calls a special kind of corpse snatchers born of the magic of magma, who are more hungry for living flesh and blood than ordinary corpse robbers, and are more aggressive. And their appearance is also consistent with the monsters bred by hot magma, their bodies are red, and they are hung with rotten flesh that will not be melted by the magma. Carl spat disdainfully, "Disgusting guys......"
He attacked before the corpse snatchers, and the revolver in his hand threw several accurate headshots in a split second. Carl then took a leap to the other side of the lava pool. He also seized this opportunity to observe the number of corpse robbers, there were four in total, the number was not much, he thought that he could easily solve them. After deciding, Carl took a G14 grenade out of his hands.
Instead of pulling out the bolt of the grenade, he let it roll in the air a few times, then lifted the revolver and fired the grenade with a single shot. The explosion was located just above the four body snatchers, so scattered fragments of destruction were embedded in their heads and necks from different directions. Karl took the opportunity to take three brief steps forward, and he almost put the muzzle of the revolver against the forehead of a corpse snatcher and pulled the trigger. Then his left hand went through the armpit of his right hand and a shot hit the head of a corpse thief on the side. Then he made a magnificent turn, raised his hands flat, and pulled the trigger at the same time, and the two revolvers fired at the same time to make the gun sound like a single sound, and the two bullets drilled into the heads of the remaining two corpse thieves with precision.
Karl blew the muzzle smoke a little unsatisfied, and now there was finally a decent show here. It's just that using these disgusting monsters as supporting characters is a bit unsatisfactory. But there is no way to do it, Carl certainly doesn't expect to see any beautiful monsters in this kind of place, and the monsters themselves have nothing to do with the word beauty.
To be honest, Carl would love to meet the crippled giants mentioned by Krent, but the battle with them will be very difficult. If the Dark Elves saw them as a force to guard the Dark City's paths, they wouldn't be as easy to defeat as the Corpse Raiders.
Carl was surprised by the structure of the cave, which was not kept at a relative depth like in the Neupera area. When Carl faced the end of the cave in front of him, he realized that the cliff on one side had a rope ladder that led deeper into the cave. It's kind of interesting, as there is still quite a bit of suspense about how well the Dark Elves defend the road to the Dark City.
But that's the path Carl has to take, otherwise he won't be able to completely clear the lava cave of monsters. Karl didn't know much about their specific location, and the Duchy exploration team didn't dare to go deep into it before, so this place can be said to be still in the unexplored stage.
Cal made his way up the rope ladder to a deeper cavern, which had a slightly wider range of movement. There are only two lava pools, and they are located on either side of the cave, with a sizable clearing in the middle for Cal to roam freely. Just as he had just seen, Karl noticed the cliff leading to the next level, which was still a short distance away, and Carl thought that it would be necessary to check the situation of this level of the cave before going over. Since you want to clean up the monsters here, you can't let go of any corner.
The first thing he looked at was the lava pools on either side, and if his guess was correct, most of the monsters here would emerge from the lava pools. He tries to get close to the lava pool and throws some rubble into it, trying to alarm the monsters hiding in the lava pool. This method worked, and soon a different low roar could be heard from the surging lava. Immediately after, a red zombie with a burning body leaped out of the lava pool, waving its rotten arm and striking at Karl fiercely.
Ready, Carl dodged the flaming zombie attack with a backward jump, but he soon noticed that something was wrong - the corners of his clothes unknowingly ignited flames, and the flames tended to gradually expand. Karl gritted his teeth and immediately understood that this might be the ability of this burning zombie. He pulled out a knife from his waist and cut off the corners of his coat to prevent the burning flames from spreading throughout his body. "It seems that there is an interesting opponent. Karl spun the revolver twice in his hand and whispered.
