Fengdu has always had the name of "Yin Cao Difu" and "Ghost Country Kyoto".
According to legend, the Han Dynasty Wang Fangping, Yin Changsheng cultivated in the famous mountain of Fengdu and became immortals, and the descendants said that this place is the "Yin King", that is, the place where the king of the underworld lives, and the famous mountain of Fengdu has become the place where the legendary people return after death, and the "ghost city" is named after this.
Of great interest to scholars, the legend of these two masters is not fictional characters, one of them is the great-ancestor of the Yin clan, the empress of Emperor Liu Zhao of the Han Dynasty, and the other is the court of Emperor Huan of the Han Dynasty.
Liu Xiang of the Eastern Han Dynasty wrote "The Legend of the Immortals" and Ge Hong of the Eastern Jin Dynasty "The Legend of the Immortals" both contained: Wang Fangping and Yin Changsheng of the Han Dynasty were all flying immortals in the day of Pingdu Mountain in Fengdu.
"Journey to the West", "Strange Tales of Liao Zhai", "The Complete Biography of Yue", "The Legend of the Immortals", "Yu Shi Mingyan" and many other classical masterpieces are rendered to the fullest, making Fengdu more mysterious and grotesque. "Ghost Country" and "Yin Cao Difu" are famous along the way, and the name is broadcast in the world.
The Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai left a poem in Fengdu, "Laughing at the sergeant of the world, sinking the soul in the north of Fengdu".
Su Shi, Du Guangting, Li Shangyin, Lu You, Pu Songling and other heavyweights went to Fengdu to climb the mountain and enjoy the scenery, and recited the inscriptions, leaving an endless context.
Because of Su Shi's poem "Pingdu Ancient Famous Mountains in the World", Fengdu is also known as "Famous Mountain", which is still used today.
The idiom allusion of "vicissitudes of life" also comes from this.
In 198 AD, Zhang Lu, the grandson of Zhang Daoling, the founder of Taoism, set up Taoism "Pingduzhi" in Fengdu, which was the missionary center of Taoism.
Taoists set up a heavenly master on this mountain and listed it as "one of the thirty-six caves and seventy-two blessed lands".
