Chapter 16: Ferocity
As night fell, a cold mist gradually rose in the camp in the wilderness.
The air during the water season was humid, and there was not much dry firewood to burn in the camp, so people wore thick cloaks and huddled around the limited campfires to keep warm and rest in order to protect themselves from the cold.
In a place where no one could see, a pair of murderous eyes were silently observing the camp, it was a nightbladed leopard.
This ferocious predator, with its long, razor-sharp claws, pitch black, swift and silent movements, is the darling of the night, a nightmare in the fog.
The Nightblade Leopard is ferocious and cunning, and if it is targeted by them, it means that it will not die, so the Moonblade Leopard is also called the Black Death by adventurers. Now, it's eyeing the camp.
The beast had been observing the camp for a while, and its instincts told it that some of the prey in the camp was very dangerous, and could easily kill it in a head-on fight. But it was not going to give up, because raiding in the dark was what it was capable of.
The camp was guarded by heavily armed guards, but it was not a problem for the ferocious and bloodthirsty beast, which knew that fear would cause chaos among the weaker prey, and that chaos would give it the opportunity to hunt, and with a single raid, it would be able to drag the fleeing weaker into the darkness and feed itself.
"Nelson, there are not many people around the four campfires outside the camp, why don't you let some of the leaders go somewhere to get warm?" Seeing the leaders huddled around the limited number of bonfires in the camp, due to the large number of people, some of the people lying on the periphery were shivering from the cold, Victor couldn't help frowning.
"My lord, the four campfires on the outskirts of the camp are for defense against wild beasts. Our scouts have spotted the paw prints of the Nightblade Panther nearby, a beast that grows bold at night and tends to attack travelers, especially now that the fog is so thick that it is difficult for our guards to defend against this ferocious beast without a campfire. Nelson, clad in armor and two heavy battle axes slung across his back, glanced warily out of the camp.
"You think the Nightblade Panther would attack the camp of so many of us?" Victor was a little surprised.
"It will surely attack, and this beast, though not very powerful, will become very active at night, and if we are careless, it will drag an unlucky ghost back for supper. "As a mercenary by profession, Nelson knows all about this ferocious beast.
"Then I'll talk to Bruce Knight and ask him to line up two midshipmen to help you defend against this beast?" Victor was a little worried about the lack of guards.
"Your Excellency, don't worry. These old lads of mine are seasoned guys, and if that brute shows up tonight, we'll be able to take it out. Nelson said confidently.
"Lords and scholars can stay in the carriage, and the cavalry of the knight will protect the carriage. Nelson thought about it, but still hoped that his lord would stay out of danger.
Victor nodded, boarded the carriage, and found Master Edwin.
"Master, how much do you know about the Nightblade Panther?" Victor decided to take this opportunity to communicate with the Master Scholar.
"Why, is the camp targeted by such a difficult beast?" the scholar had just asked, when he heard the wailing of the dogs and the terrified neighing of the horses outside the camp.
The two hurriedly got out of the carriage, and as soon as they got out of the carriage, they saw the Bruce knight holding a long sword and a few knights walking over.
"Your Excellency, what happened?" asked Bruce to Victor.
"It could be the Nightblade Panther sneaking up on the camp. Victor wasn't sure either, and he walked towards the place where the commotion was commotioning.
A few men walked to the edge of the camp and saw several guards leaning against each other with one-handed spears and round shields facing the dark wilderness outside the camp.
Although nothing could be seen, the sound of wild beasts gnawing at flesh and bones could be heard. It appears that the beast was spotted by the vigilant Thihound as it approached the camp, and then it caught the poor Tihound, who was now devouring its prey in the dark.
"Nightblade Leopards are very stealthy and raiding beasts, they always find the weak spots of their prey and hunt them in the dark, once a victim appears in the prey group, the Nightblade Leopard will continue to hunt the group until you kill it or leave its territory. Edwin frowned when he determined that it was the Nightblade Panther who had attacked the camp, apparently a headache for this beast that was adept at hiding itself through night and fog.
"Bruce Knight, it looks like you need to kill this beast. Victor pleaded with Bruce.
"Willing to help. "Knight Bruce gave Victor a knightly salute.
At this moment, a guard with a spear on the periphery seemed to be afraid, dropped the spear in his hand, turned and ran towards the camp.
His exposed back stimulated the Nightblade Leopard's hunting instinct and bloodthirsty impulse, and a huge beast burst out of the darkness and pounced on the deserter at an unreactive speed.
Seeing that the huge black shadow was about to pounce on the target, and the Bruce Knight was a little far away, it was too late to rescue.
Just when everyone thought that the militia was doomed, the militia suddenly rolled on the spot and disappeared from the beast's field of vision in an instant, and the Nightblade Leopard was a little overwhelmed by the sudden change and froze in place.
At this moment, a roar suddenly sounded in the position closest to the beast, and I saw Nelson rushing towards the stunned beast with a battle axe and a round shield, a heavy shield blow, and the Nightblade Leopard was hit in the head by Nelson with a shield, and the strong force directly knocked the beast into a heel in the air, but before it landed, the battle axe in Nelson's hand had already swept over its soft chest and abdomen, smashing its body on the solid ground.
In the flash of light, it's all over.
Victor and Edwin walked over to the still twitching beast's corpse and saw Nelson pull the fleeing guard out of a hole in the ground.
"A great strategy to fake panic and arouse the desire of the Nightblade Panther to attack, then jump into a dug hole, and finally kill the beast by the guards who have already laid an ambush. Scholars are full of praise for the ambush.
"Captain Nelson was able to slay such a ferocious beast so easily, and if I'm not mistaken, Nelson should be a ferocious warrior. Bruce Knight said softly.
"Ferocious?" Victor shifted his gaze from the hideous, ferocious beast corpse on the ground to Nelson's body and glanced at him.
"Ferociousness is a special mutation of ferocious creatures in this world, ferocious animals will be more powerful than ordinary animals, more agile, their bones will become very hard, comparable to metal, muscles and fur will also become particularly tight and strong, and can even resist some ordinary attacks, the vitality of ferocious animals is tenacious, and the self-healing ability is also extremely strong, and ordinary injuries can quickly heal themselves. However, the probability of biological ferocity is low, and the probability of ordinary humans being ferocious is even lower. It is said that the barbarians in the Northland Turrell Mountains are generally ferocious when they become adults, but fortunately they have low fertility, otherwise our human world would be mercilessly attacked by the Northland Barbarians. The scholar also glanced at Nelson with interest.
"Oh, what is the reason for the ferocity of humanity?" asked Victor, who was intrigued.
"There is no conclusion, in the past hundred years, the White Tower has investigated hundreds of cases of violent humans, but unfortunately no valuable clues and patterns have been found, and the violence seems to have happened randomly, not only mercenaries who have been on the verge of life and death all year round, but also tailors, bards, and even nuns. Moreover, the degree of ferocity is also different, some people with a high degree of ferocity are even comparable to knights in combat effectiveness, and some are only slightly stronger than elite soldiers. Edwin shrugged.
"It is true that there are strong and weak ferocities, and Captain Nelson's level of ferocity is already very powerful, and it is completely comparable to the Bronze Horseman who has just entered the knightly realm. "The Bruce Knight, though reserved and arrogant, also respects strong warriors.
Victor's eyes flickered, although he was a nobleman, he did not awaken the blood of knights, but the ferocity seemed to open a new door for him.
