Chapter 274 Eight Major Projects

The next day, Li Fushou and many leading figures from the upper class of Australia, as well as representatives of Britain, the United States, Germany and France, attended the first "Red River Valley Cup World Architect Design Grand Prix" competition, which was an unprecedented scale of the world's architectural industry event.

For more than two years, Red River Valley has widely publicized this unprecedented competition through European and American newspapers and magazines, and the famous designers who have won the highest honors will be awarded the highest honors; The five-star glorious designer trophy and a heavy prize of 10,000 pounds.

With the high accolades and the lure of awards, the world's top architects are competing for the highest honor in the architectural design industry.

The organizing committee of the Grand Prix received more than 1,700 architectural proposals, and after several rounds of evaluation by well-known experts, 30 of them were selected to compete for the final award.

Eight of these outstanding architectural designs have been adopted, and are under construction or have already been completed as iconic buildings in the Red River Valley.

All eight of these buildings are located near Central Street, the main axis parallel to the Brisbane River, which is 120 metres wide and about 16 kilometres long, running through the city of the Red River Valley and serving as the city's transport hub.

Central Street runs west from the Castle of Dreams in the easternmost hills, past the Red River Valley City Hall and Council to Christchurch, where it crosses the Tower of Victory and goes west to the 19th-century stadium to the University of the Red Valley on the banks of the White Creek.

On both sides of the central street are all kinds of classical buildings, there are British Romanesque architectural style, Spanish architectural style, French neo-romantic architectural style, Chinese Ming and Qing Dynasty architectural style carved gallery and painting building, cornices and arches, and the onion head of Latin architecture, which is simply an exposition of the world's architectural masterpieces.

The headquarters of major conglomerates, banks, and countless private trading companies, trading houses, and shops are all gathered here in the Red River Valley, and it is a major street with extremely prosperous commerce.

On the outermost side of Central Avenue is a sidewalk, with two tram lanes and troika carriageways, and an 8-meter-wide green belt in the center.

The whole central street presents a symmetrical layout, the sidewalk, tram lane and horse lane are all separated by a green belt of 2~3 meters, and all vehicles and pedestrians drive on the right, without interfering with each other, and are distinct.

The whole street is clean and tidy, there are sanitation workers wearing red armbands to clean it, and passing carriages and horses have to put dung bags behind their buttocks, and those who leave dung are fined.

Near Christchurchtown, the Eiffel Tower has been named the "Tower of Victory", symbolizing the rise of immigrants to forge ahead and build a better home on the rich continent of Australia.

Towering across the entire central street, the tower's foundation is deeply embedded in the central green belt and the surrounding green belt, where the central street forms a circular fountain square, which further highlights the grandeur of the tower.

Mr. Eiffel, the French chief designer, initially wanted to name the majestic building after himself, but as expected, it was rejected.

This guy is indeed very talented, but he can count on Red River Valley City to fund the construction of this landmark building to make himself famous and famous, and he looks weird and ugly and wants to be very beautiful.

The Eiffel Tower is the only project to be completed, and there are seven projects under construction, the first of which is the Castle of Dreams, a dreamy European castle-style building located in the mountains at the easternmost end of Central Street.

The main building only takes three and a half years to complete, but the exquisite carvings in the castle, the beautiful curvilinear window lattices, the Romanesque arches, the marble columns, the strange flying beasts and the ancient Luo stone carvings take a long time, and the construction period is expected to be 12 years, which is not visible in a short time.

The second is the 10-storey Red River Building, which is located in the middle of the central street in the bustling area, using the ancient Greek palace-style architectural style, especially the temple-like arch columns are very eye-catching, and the male Hercules statue carving on the roof is even more brilliant, making people feel like returning to the era of Greek mythology.

The large carved fountain of the Greek god of war in front of the Red River Building is the finishing touch, attracting countless people to come to watch and take photos every day, feeding more than 20 photography agencies nearby, and business is booming every day.

This complex and graceful architectural style, which is different from the current popular "Chicago style", presents a strong retro style, standing out from the crowd of three- and four-story buildings, and becoming a highlight on Central Street.

The disadvantage is that it is expensive to build and takes a long time.

In the aftermath of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the American town was almost completely destroyed by the fire, leaving 300,000 people homeless and injuring countless people.

The redevelopment of Chicago City attracted architects from all over the United States to gather here, most of the buildings built with reinforced concrete structures, focusing on practicality, area efficiency and input-output ratio, abandoning the complicated classical decoration, all using horizontal and vertical lines, and building a large number of high-rise reinforced concrete buildings in the square box, this architectural style is called the "Chicago School" and prevailed for a while.

Since the middle of the 19th century, elevators have been widely used in high-rise buildings, and seven- and eight-story buildings have become common, and high-rise buildings up to ten stories have also appeared.

Chicago's city center is densely packed with high-rise buildings, all of which are unadorned in the shape of square boxes, like a forest of reinforced concrete.

A lot of people like this bustling modern style, but there are also people who don't.

The Red River Tower is a maverick representation of tall buildings, completely different from the Chicago genre, and is one of the skyline highs of the Red River Valley city, with the highest point being the Tower of Victory.

As a speaker of the entire Red River Valley, Li Fushou is known to all the Earl of Queensland who has a deep hatred for the reinforced concrete square boxes built by the "Chicago School", calling them "ugly garbage", and will never allow such ugly buildings to appear in any town in the Red River Valley.

Anyone who dared to build a boxy reinforced concrete building against the will of the Earl would be punished with heavy fines and face demolition, without exception.

Other than that, any building is fine, and the government does not restrict it.

If something is good, it will be effective.

Under the influence of this atmosphere, the architectural style of the Red River Valley city is like a hundred flowers in full bloom, and various architectural styles come together here, creating a beautiful landscape of this immigrant city.

Not far from the Red River Building is the headquarters building of Huitong Bank, which is called Huitong Bank Building, which is the third project under construction.

Huitong Bank Building is a "凵" type building complex, the main building is 7 floors high, the bottom three floors of the building are all 12 meters high, it is a typical Chinese eaves bucket arch structure, the roof is paved with golden glazed tiles, and the spine beast of copper texture stands on it.

The whole building is simple and dignified, full of strong oriental characteristics.

The small square at the entrance is an exquisite rockery pavilion structure, the rockery is about 30 meters high, designed with a winding path through the small bridge flowing water, waterfall and waterfront pavilion, it is really a step and a scene, each is different.

This is designed by Lei Qifeng of the Lei family, who is the current patriarch of the Lei clan, and is an extremely powerful ancient architect.

Patriarch Lei Qiming is leading the clan to repair the garden for the Empress Dowager Cixi, and Mr. Lei Qifeng led a capable team to be invited to Australia, one purpose is to exchange and observe with foreign counterparts, and to draw beneficial essence from it for their own use, and the other purpose is to carry forward the Chinese classical architectural style and win glory for the nation.

The fourth project under construction is the 19th-century open-air stadium (funded by the Australian 19th Century United Shipping Company) in the classic architectural style of the Colosseum, which can accommodate 36,000 spectators, and serves as the main venue for celebrations, rallies, sports competitions, and military training, located between Christchurch and the University of the Red River Valley, on the north side of Central Avenue.

The headquarters office building of the 19th century United Shipping Company of Australia is also located here, which is a four-storey circular building with a length of more than 600 meters, which can not only provide ample office space, but also has two large hotels, one for the mid-to-high-end and one for the low-end.

The fifth project under construction is the Earls of Queensland Library, a French-style neo-romantic complex located diagonally opposite the 19th-century open-air stadium and on the south side of Central Street, just 1.2 kilometres from the main entrance of the University of the Red River Valley.

The sixth project under construction is the Baixi Bridge, which will cross the Baixi River to connect the two banks together, the whole bridge is about 400 meters long and 130 meters wide, and it is a control project for the westward extension of Central Street.

Baixi is a seasonal river, the riverbed is about ten meters wide during the dry season, about half a person deep, and the river water is crystal clear and you can see colorful pebbles, which is very beautiful.

During the flood season, the flood water from the mountains rushes in, widening the riverbed to more than 200 meters wide, rushing all the way into the Brisbane River, the water is turbulent and turbid, and it is another kind of violent appearance.

At present, the construction personnel are repairing the rock slope protection on both banks, and the foundation of the Baixi Bridge is under construction, and it has not yet shown a proud posture.

This is a steel structure bridge like a rainbow, divided into two layers of structure, the lower level passes twelve railroad trains, the upper level passes carriages and people, the highest part of the steel arch is more than 230 meters, it can be seen as a small Sydney bridge.

The construction of the White Creek Bridge is also a warm-up for the more ambitious Sydney Bridge and a tempering of the construction team.

Speaking of which

I have to mention the planned Sydney Bay Bridge, this ill-fated Bay Bridge is now ready for everything, only the east wind is owed, but it is a pity that the east wind has not come.

Under the current grim situation of confrontation between the North and the South, it can only be put on hold for the time being, and it can be left for the future.

Sydney's white conservative extremists are extremely hostile to this major project connecting the two sides of the strait, and have been frantically shouting; "The stench of immigrants can be smelled across the strait, the south bank of the strait is the white man's world, no yellow immigrants are allowed to touch it, all those involved in this project will go to hell, and we will send him a bullet for free."
