Chapter 9: Mr. Conte's Music Lessons
Agnes hesitated, standing still.
"What's wrong? Agnes, what's the problem? Mr. Conte asked curiously.
Agnes thought for a moment and said, "Mr. Conte, you know, my illness is related to dreams. ”
"Yes, Ms. Olivia told me. What's wrong? Did you dream last night? How do you feel? Need help connecting you with a church? No, did you tell your mother? Monsieur Conte stopped what he was doing and looked at Agnes earnestly.
"No, no," said Agnes, waving her hand in disbelief, "I feel good right now." What I want to ask is that I had a dream last night and then there seems to have been some changes when meditating this morning. ”
Mr. Conte put down the paper in his hand and asked, "What kind of change?" ”
Agnes thought for a moment and described, "What I saw yesterday was darkness, but this morning when I meditated I saw overlapping patches of bright colors and an illusory mist. ”
Mr. Conte breathed a sigh of relief and said, "This is something that only happens when meditation is successful." Nothing was a problem. ”
Agnes added: "But what I saw today made me feel a little dizzy, a little nauseous. ”
Mr. Conte thought for a moment and said, "I'll go to church today and ask for an answer tomorrow in the martial arts class." But it shouldn't be a big problem, it may just be a reason why you are more sensitive to color and don't get used to it, so don't worry too much. ”
"Okay, thank you, Mr. Conte." Agnes smiled a little and looked at Mr. Conte and nodded.
"Okay, we're done, we're going to start testing." Mr. Conte said with a smile.
Next, Mr. Conte tested Agnes' fundamentals of music theory, ear training, and finally had Agnes play an etude.
"You can see that you have a solid foundation, especially the basics of music theory. The piano is also very skillful, and as long as you continue to practice, there is no problem. Mr. Conte commented thoughtfully.
"Did your old teacher ever think of teaching you how to compose?" Mr. Conte asked.
"Mr. Miller taught me some ways to compose melodies." Agnes replied.
Mr. Conte nodded, "Have you ever created your own?" ”
"I've created some clips." Agnes nodded.
"I'll take a look at it." Mr. Conte sat down.
Agnes played, and Monsieur Conte listened attentively, frowning as he beat the beat.
"Alright, stop, that's enough." Mr. Conte said with a frown, and Agnes paused.
"Do you know how to play "The Knight and the Shepherdess"?"
"Yes."
"Play this one and try it." Agnes began to play.
"The Knight and the Shepherdess" is a very popular piece of music by Fenerport, telling a poignant and mournful love story, the tune is simple, but it is very infectious, and there are many instrumental versions.
Agnes played a snippet of Mr. Conte and stopped her.
"I know where I should teach you." Mr. Conte said.
"Your biggest problem at the moment is that you don't put your emotions into the music, which is evident when you play 'The Knight and the Shepherdess', which is simple enough that it doesn't require too many tricks, but it requires the player to be emotionally invested to tell a poignant story that will resonate with the listener. You're clearly not emotionally invested enough. Again, this is the most obvious problem with your creation. You will have a lot of gorgeous techniques, but you will only use these techniques to pile up a gorgeous and empty piece of music, without enough emotional core in it, which seems mechanical and stiff, and lacks a certain musicality, and the traces of experimentation are relatively heavy. Of course, this may also have something to do with the fact that you don't have enough life experience. ”
"You don't need me to teach you more skills, you just need me to guide you through the emotions in the music." Mr. Conte said.
……
February 28, 1328
"It's been a month since I took the potion, and my martial arts training has gone so well that Mr. Conte even added a firearm course to me. But the exercise of the abilities given to me by the prisoner's potion did not meet Mr. Conte's expectations. Mr. Conte thinks it's because of my lack of practical training. He thinks I should go on a few missions with Nature's Heart team.
"According to Mr. Conte, I usually default to joining the church in my case, but the church does not seem to have any intention of contacting me at this time. Is it because I'm too young or because of a previous illness? Or is there something about who I am? But Mr. Conte said he would communicate with Nature's Heart. ”
"The vertigo I felt when I meditated was almost gone, maybe I just wasn't used to the bright colors. I remember that Mr. Conte received the answer from the church at that time that there might be some phobia. Even after all this time, I have to say it again: it's outrageous! ”
"Mr. Conte has taught me some basic occult knowledge and some practical rituals during this time, but to be honest, most of my rituals now rely on spiritual materials. Mr. Conte mentioned that he was not really good at these things, and suggested that I ask my mother or Ms. Jones directly for advice. In fact, my mother was already teaching me this. During this time, I learned ritual magic, made several amulets, and asked someone to bring one to Penny and Frank, and I don't know if they will bring it with them.
"Actually, the most fundamental problem is that I am not spiritually strong enough, and the spiritual strengthening effect of the prisoner path is not very obvious. But even if there is such a problem, I should still be aware of these rituals, after all, I should be prepared. Unfortunately, I guess I won't be able to master divination for a long time. ”
"During this time I asked some of Mr. Conte about what he was going through in Sequence Nine. Putting together this fragmentary information, we can roughly infer a few points about Mr. Conte's role at the time:
(1) The exclusion of impulses, emotions, etc., which are unacceptable to consciousness, and desires that are not in line with the time, is the suppression of one's own initiative. You need to have a clear self-awareness of what you want and what you can't accept. You also need to have some clarity about the present moment, and understand when to restrain your desires and when to let go of your desires. Mr. Conte's experience in prison against other convicts and guards is a testament to this. A shout-out to Mr. Conte must be given here, for his really vivid storytelling, and for his own mental activity.
(2) Breaking the rules and obeying the rules at the same time. Since the prisoner is a person who is held in prison, then he must have broken some kind of rule. But since the prisoner can be held in prison, he is still abiding by certain rules, whether voluntarily or forced. This may be the difference between a prisoner and a criminal. Mr. Conte had said that his tendency to lose control had worsened after he had killed on some impulse, but that his tendency to lose control seemed to have lessened after his arrest and imprisonment.
"There is a problem, then, that Mr. Conte said that at that time he was exacerbated by the indulgence of lust and impulse to kill, and that this is a testament to the importance of restraining desire. But if indulging in desires leads to an increase in the tendency to get out of control, how did the indulgers get through the prisoner phase? It can't be that all the members are criminals, right?
"Mr. Conte said that his tendency to get out of control has diminished since he was imprisoned, is this suggesting that I am playing the law? The church didn't strictly require him not to reveal? ”
"Spring break starts tomorrow, and my brother should be back."
