Act IV: Eric Hothka's Confession (3)
Yes, it is true, as I said before, there is no trace of any living creature in the ruins of Palapas except us. Pen | fun | pavilion www. biquge。 info
Amazingly, we didn't feel the slightest fatigue during the long journey, but were energized because great discoveries were made in front of us. Not just La Plater, but even the most dispassionate of our adventuring party are already gearing up and eager to search the ruins of this mythical era.
We took advantage of this inexplicable excitement and poured a lot of wine, and immediately began to explore the nearby streets. The buildings were clearly carefully planned before they were built, and not only were the streets very straight, but there were no shantytowns like this slum.
The ancient buildings that appear in front of you are like the "glorious city" in the painting, and a large number of stone bricks have built houses full of characteristics. They are clearly a composite dwelling, with a single house that may accommodate ten to twenty families of various sizes.
When we took a closer look at the buildings, we were surprised to find that the creatures were probably more than twice the height of our average person. Not only are they skilled in construction and art, but they are also superior to us in their sorcery skills, and the most ordinary objects contain a certain amount of magic.
In particular, when our hands gently brush over the old building, the mysterious pattern carefully carved by the craftsman will glow with a golden shimmer. These patterns are not only ornamental, but also have special powers, and you can still feel the magic that lingers on them to this day.
It may be hard for you to believe me when I say this, but the peoples who lived thousands of years ago had a level of civilization that was known to us hundreds of years ago or higher. So if they hadn't been wiped out by that sudden disaster, how far would the various races on our planet have developed?
It took us thousands of years to find back the civilization and technology of the past, and only then did we have the capital that could be compared with these predecessors. Or is it because of that catastrophe that we have the opportunity to come to the surface and let our civilization prosper in the spread?
With all sorts of ideas in mind, we scouted the houses on the nearby streets – a treasure trove, to put it mildly. All the relics are left in their rightful place, and we even have to wonder if we are not venturing into the ruins but entering the dwelling to steal.
You can think about it, all kinds of relics from thousands of years ago are placed in front of you unguardedly, and you can choose from them. In fact, I wondered for a long time what I was going to take as the spoils of my expedition, until I finally chose something as light and valuable as possible.
By the time we met, everyone in the team had a lot to gain, some of them had medals made of metal, others had chosen weapons with strange shapes. As for Laprar, he didn't know where to get some notes, as well as wonderful spell products.
Just as we gathered in the small square at the corner of the street, excitedly exchanging ideas about what we had discovered in the area we were exploring, a gust of cold wind blew away the cold fog that enveloped us. The light of the white moon illuminates the streets of the ruined capital, and also allows us to see more distant views.
Houses of varying heights, huge walls towering to the sky...... In addition to this, there are many, many wonderful buildings. And by the pale moonlight, we also saw the snow-white marble roofs of the temple area in the distance, and the tall columns carved with wonderful patterns. The temple was so large and beautiful that it could not be compared to the "Great Temple" built by the religious fanatics of the South.
Ho...... To this day, I can vividly recall every detail of the building seen in the distance, the pure white sanctuary showing the majesty of God in the moonlight. There is no more majestic building in the whole of Palapas, and the houses we can see are no more than five or six storeys high, which is a sign that the people who once ruled the area may have a ******** culture.
That being the case, we all know what that means - the most valuable things in the city must be hidden in that beautiful temple. So, after a short rest, we packed our bags and rushed down the straight street to the temple area.
Like the roads throughout the city, the road leading to the temple area is straight, with no obstacles other than a few plants spreading across the path. Of course, they couldn't stop the group of high-spirited adventurers, but in a moment, we were in the central square of the temple area.
Compared to the periphery, the vegetation grows here is more luxuriant, and every corner of the square is completely submerged in the leafy trees. These plants have expanded their territory significantly over the years, but have not yet had time to fully occupy the central square of the temple area.
This allows us to get a closer look at the nearby temples – they are clearly not buildings of the same era, and they are architecturally distinct. Some of them give an indescribable sense of vicissitudes, as if they had been established on the land long before that distant stubbornness.
During my years of adventure with La Platr, I also had a lot of knowledge about ancient architecture. But there is something unusual about this series of temples, and on the face of it I can't tell exactly when they were built, and for some reason I don't seem to want to think about it.
And the most conspicuous building in this square is undoubtedly the huge temple that attracts us. It is so different that the top part is a snow-white stone as we can see, and the bottom part is a deep black material like basalt.
The temple is in the shape of a stepped temple, with large pieces of polished stone stacked upwards in a regular arrangement to form a huge structure like a rocky mountain. The walls of the lower level can still be seen with thick moss that seems to be as old as it, while the top level is covered with an incomparably large dome.
On the second floor, the qualification corner of the temple is each crowned with a large minaret, which is connected to the main body of the temple by several suspended corridors. On the upper floors of the main building, there are rows of colonnades that cover the entire façade, and stone columns are carved with statues of creatures that have never been seen before.
Is that themselves, or are they in the form of gods?
I pondered the question, but the carved columns were so far away that I did not have a chance to observe the great columns at the time, but it was at this time that I found that the upper level of the temple was sealed, with only a narrow window connecting the inside and outside.
But I soon seemed to get the answer, and in the middle of the avenue leading to the temple stood a huge statue of the god, made of several precious metals. It's no exaggeration to say that if someone ships it back to the Imperial Auction, they can at least buy the city.
Perhaps you can imagine a body made of Becerian dragon steel glittering white in the moonlight, and the black bronze utensils that symbolize its authority are inlaid with jewels. The most striking thing is the "garment" draped over it, which is apparently made of gold and then put on for the idol.
The shape of this statue is quite strange, although it has a general outline similar to that of a human, but there is no similar facial features on that face. I don't know what its name is, but it's clearly some kind of god that was worshipped by this ancient group and is no longer worshipped by anyone. Perhaps all it means to us is the statue itself, and the metals and gems that are so valuable.
To put it mildly, all of us present felt a strong temptation, but we all knew that it would be impossible to transport it back to the Empire with the carrying capacity of the time - and not only that, but most of the treasures in that ruin could not be taken away.
But whatever I may say, the discovery in Temple Square has undoubtedly inspired all members of the adventure party once again, telling them that there are many precious treasures in this ruin. They couldn't wait to continue their adventure, but LaPrar stopped them in time.
He believes that the members of the adventure team have consumed a lot of physical strength, and the reason why they are not sleepy now is only because the discovery again and again stimulates our nerves. If you go deep into the depths of the ruins now, you'll most likely end up in a death trap.
He thought we should rest and recharge before continuing our adventures in Palapas—though he didn't say it, I think he was a little suspicious of the tales of the barbarians, and feared something terrible in the depths of the ruins.
Proper caution is the basis for adventurers to live and enjoy their spoils, and if you only look at the harvest without considering the dangers that accompany it, you will sooner or later fall into the abyss because of your carelessness...... What's more, it is a city of decay that no one has set foot in before.
Yes...... Actually, I think you've noticed the unnatural things too. A town that was destroyed thousands of years ago by a natural disaster has spotless streets, and there is no sign of its inhabitants in the city, as if they had disappeared into thin air overnight.
I think everybody would have been skeptical at once, asking questions like "How is this possible?" -- but we didn't notice it as if the devil had sent a god wrong. It's unnatural, a mistake that a qualified adventurer shouldn't make, and it can't be generated just because of excitement.
Yes, everyone, all, including me and Laprar, had no suspicions about the anomaly. The members of the expedition team were all immersed in the ruins of the Mythological Age, exploring the ruins of the "City of Decay" that the barbarians of the Northland called "the city of decay".
Thereupon...... Hey, I think you should know what I'm going to talk about next...... This is how La Platr's expedition was buried in the Northlands.
