6. Numbers and Feng Shui

In the eyes of Feng Shui practitioners, the office or shop address number is very meaningful. 2, 5, 8, 9, and 10 are auspicious numbers: 2 means easy, 5 means in harmony with the five elements, 6 means wealth, 8 means wealth, 9 means longevity, and 10 means certainty.

Thus, an address like No. 2, 8, and 9 has the meaning: "easy to get rich in the long term", or

"Business will prosper for a long time". On the contrary, 7 and 4 mean:

"Surely perish", or

"The business is definitely not successful". The number 4 is unusual in Cantonese because it sounds like it

The names of these combinations are auspicious: Water + Wood (the nourishment of water makes wood grow) Wood + Fire (the increase of wood makes the fire more prosperous) Fire + Earth (Fire makes the earth pure) Earth + Jin (gold is protected by the earth) Jin + Water (gold makes the water rich) The names of such combinations are unfavorable: Water + Fire (Water makes water extinguish) Fire + Jin (Fire Ke Jin) Jin + Mu (wood will be covered by earth) Earth + Water (water disappears in the earth) Some Feng Shui practitioners like to name their shops in Chinese characters written by certain strokes.

Characters with singular strokes are yin, and words with even strokes are yang. For example, the Chinese characters are yin and yang.

Shops named with Chinese characters in singular/even (yin/yang) order are considered auspicious, and this arrangement is in the order of yang/yin, yin/yin/yang, yin/yang/yang.

The order of inauspiciousness includes: Yin/Yang/Yin and Yang/Yin/Yang.
