Chapter 5: Time Management
The content of today's training is what I learned from attending a training session, which is a training on "time management", which divides the daily work arrangement into important and urgent arrangements. As a manager, the order of work should be: 1. Important + Urgent 2. Important + Not Urgent 3. Urgent + Not Important 4. Not Urgent + Not Important
I won't talk about this course specifically, if you are interested, you can search for related courses.
What I want to say is that I have learned a few truths from this course.
First, try to schedule your creative time to be the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning. Try to keep yourself in your normal schedule and finish your work.
Many writers feel that they can't write anything, and there are many things that they can't create, but arranging the first thing after getting up and eating will make you have a better state of mind - when the most difficult things are done, then the next day will be a happy day.
Secondly, I realized the scientific management method of novel writing.
If we regard each plot of the novel as the content of our daily work, and then divide it according to the degree of urgency of importance, we will find that in fact, sometimes what we write seems to be important, but in fact it is the least important.
I'm going to make up the beginning of a novel right now.
The protagonist is a very awesome person, when he reached the top of his life, he shattered the void and failed, and his soul crossed over to the idiot son of a third-rate family, and the first crisis after crossing was that because the idiot boy was a genius before, it took a few years to reach a certain high level of cultivator, but for various reasons he became an idiot, so many people were dissatisfied with this idiot and felt that they had to kill him to feel at ease. So in a meeting of the family's routine test of ability, the protagonist was insulted by a supporting character, so he broke out and prepared to fight with the other party.
It's about three chapters and about 10,000 words.
This beginning is the most popular beginning I've seen recently, and there are about three out of every ten books I read.
Okay, let's distill the plot elements of this opening.
1, the protagonist was awesome in his previous life
2. The protagonist crosses after the failure of the Shattered Void
3. The introduction of the idiot son of a certain third-rate family
4. Introduction to the cultivation system: The idiot boy is a genius, and it took a few years to reach a certain high level of cultivators.
5. Reasons for becoming idiots
6. Someone is resentful of this idiot
7. Family testing ability
8. Being insulted by a supporting role
9. Be prepared to fight each other
You can think about which of these things is: 1. Important + Urgent, 2. Important + Not Urgent, 3. Urgent + Not Important, 4. Not Urgent + Not Important
Normally, it is very simple to finish these nine things in three chapters and 10,000 words, but I found several problems, one is that some people can't distinguish the priority and should not be written in detail, they are written in detail, they should be written in detail, and they should be written in detail.
The other is to write everything so clearly that the reader can't tell what the author is trying to say.
I will not say where the urgency is, but what I need as a reader in these three chapters.
Requirement 1: Meet the main character
Requirement 2: Know the protagonist's golden finger and article foreshadowing
Requirement 3: Be attracted by the author's three chapters and read on.
With these three needs in mind, let's consider the important and urgent points.
The first requirement is to know the protagonist, so is it important to create the old protagonist role, or is it important to create the new protagonist?
The second is the golden finger and foreshadowing, these two things are generally in the protagonist's previous life, and the idiot son is a genius.
Again, I was attracted by the article and had a reading demand, and this is to see how to fight.
Therefore, for these nine things, I have made a distinction between important and urgent.
1, the protagonist's previous life is awesome and urgent + unimportant
2. After the crushing failure, it is important + not urgent to cross
3. The introduction of the idiot son of a third-rate family is several important + urgent
4. Introduction to the cultivation system: not urgent + not important
5. The reason for becoming an idiot is important + not urgent
6. Someone is dissatisfied with this idiot important + not urgent
7. Family testing ability is not important + not urgent
8. Being insulted by a supporting role is urgent + unimportant
9. It is important + urgent to prepare to fight with the other party
1, the protagonist's previous life is awesome and urgent + unimportant
This is the beginning, so it's urgent, no matter how awesome the previous life was, it was also a previous thing, so it was not an important thing.
Therefore, whenever the protagonist is awesome in his previous life, more than one chapter in length, in fact, this bridge has been listed as an important and urgent matter.
Let's ask, no matter how awesome the past life is, after being reborn, you still have to be replaced by readers, so why write so much?
2. After the crushing failure, it is important + not urgent to cross
This bridge section is generally used by the author to set up foreshadowing and install a gold finger for the protagonist, so it is an important + non-urgent thing.
For such a bridge, the normal treatment should be to focus on the foreshadowing and golden fingers, and strengthen their impression in the reader's mind.
3. The introduction of the idiot son of a third-rate family is several important + urgent
Some people here will think that it is not important or urgent, but in this beginning, there are some foreshadowings and twists buried here, and it is the place where the author suppresses the plot.
4. Introduction to the cultivation system: not urgent + not important
Here, this is where many authors lose points at the beginning, and many authors are eager to throw their carefully researched cultivation system and world background to readers.
However, do the authors realize that these things are actually very boring and difficult to remember?
Is it really that important to put these things at the beginning, so urgent?
5. The reason for becoming an idiot is important + not urgent
6. Someone is dissatisfied with this idiot important + not urgent
This reason for becoming an idiot is a foreshadowing and a place that leads to conflict, so it is important, but it will not be very urgent.
So there's no need to put a lot of ink here, just a little bit of it.
7. Family testing ability is not important + not urgent
This place is again where the author loses points
I've seen how awesome the protagonist was in this test before, and now it's so much, and many authors have put two or three thousand words here.
There were even a number of passers-by A and B
Is it necessary?
8. Being insulted by a supporting role is urgent + unimportant
Here, it's a depressing plot, so it's very urgent, but why isn't it important? Because it's just a transition, and if you put too much ink here, it will cause the reader to be overly depressed and feel uncomfortable.
9. It is important + urgent to prepare to fight with the other party
This is the end of the third chapter, and the end of another skirmish, so it is understandable that a lot of ink needs to be written here.
I briefly talked about this important and urgent management concept, mainly hoping that everyone can make reasonable use of resources, and do not think useless things are useful and desperately instill them into the author.
Like that kind of cultivation system, background setting, it is completely possible to tell the story after successfully shaping the image of the protagonist and making the reader like this image.
The author who is a little more awesome can even slowly break it into parts, so that readers can slowly accept his power system and background setting.
It's like when we read a novel about the flood and see the description of the twelve ancestors, do people still read it word by word?
The answer is yes, that is, the kind of readers who have not read the flood wilderness novels.
What's the most important and urgent thing about a novel? It's to get the reader to read it.
Where is the most important and urgent place? are the first three chapters.
What's the most important and urgent description? is that the reader remembers the main character.
So, like those who appeared as soon as they appeared, Zhang San, Li Si, Wang Wu, Zhao Liu, and more than a dozen characters who appeared at one time, let me ask, who has such a good IQ and can remember so many names?
Like those boring background settings and upgrade systems, readers will only glance at them, rather than read them carefully.
When we write novels, if we can think about what is important and urgent for the reader, and what is not important and urgent, then our novels will become much more exciting.
Concentrate:
The degree of urgency depends on the author's focus on the work, and is not fixed.
It's like setting up a stall to make money, some people are killing time, so making money is not urgent
Some people are trying to make ends meet, and making money is the first purpose.
