Chapter 20: The Siege of the Gargoyles
"Miss Tali, please don't forget, Antonio is a close confidant of the Holy Emperor, and I don't dare expect him to speak for me in front of the Grand Master. Faced with Tully's suggestion, Rogge decisively objected.
"I think it's time to give it a try, now is not the time to distinguish factions, it's the key to finding the Hallows!" Tali said earnestly.
Rog smiled mockingly when he heard this, shook his head, and said, "Since Miss Tali thinks that the help of the Knights is needed, then it seems that we should say goodbye!"
With that, he walked straight out of the cell, touched Lilith's head and said, "Hey, what are you waiting for?
Little Lori glanced up at Tully, then at Rogge's back, and chased after Rogge, and Catherine hurriedly followed, leaving only Tully and Murphy.
Seeing this, Tali wanted to stop Rogge, but was stopped by Murphy: "Miss Tully, you don't have to try to persuade him, if you were aware of the ten-year-long feud between Rogge and the Holy Order, you would not have proposed that he cooperate with the Knights who are most loyal to the Holy Emperor." β
"But it's for the sake of the big picture!" said Tully, with a sad look on her face.
Murphy laughed when he heard this: "The big picture is meaningless to us, we are rangers, not archons, and our first concern is our own survival." β
"What about you, are you going to leave with him?" asked Tali reluctantly looking back to Murphy.
The adventurer smiled and shook his head, "If I were to leave, I would no longer be in front of you, I would be willing to accompany you to meet the group leader, at least there is no grudge between me and him." β
"Then they ......" Tali hesitantly glanced in the direction of Rog's departure, and Murphy smiled confidently, "Don't worry, if there is fate, we will see them again." β
On the other side, Rog took Lilith and Catherine out of the prison tower quickly, without alerting the drunken magician.
Rogge released the owl under the tower and told her to find the warehouse where the seized items were kept, and he took Catherine carefully under the cover of the night.
"Shall we just get out of here?" said Catherine, who was following behind Rogge, hesitantly, "Miss Tully still needs your help, at least I think." β
"Of course she needs me, baby. Rog replied in a slight voice that Catherine could barely tell, "The Knights alone can't solve this matterβoh, if the Captain hears this, I'll be charged with another crime in the little book!"
Catherine couldn't help but hide her face and laugh when she heard him make fun of Antonio, but Rogge suddenly reached out and grabbed her, pressed her body tightly against the wall, and hid in the shadows with his back against the wall, and gently "shh
Catherine cautiously looked up, only to see a pair of huge demon wings landing on the wall above the two of them, and the magic crystal that shone at the top of the tower illuminated its complete appearance - a hideous monster more than three meters tall and pitch-black.
The monster stood on the wall, its two blood-red eyes scanning the city like searchlights, and Rog and Catherine, who were directly below it, stood silently against the wall, quietly observing its movements.
The girl didn't dare to gasp for fear of alarming the vicious monster, until she heard the sound of wings flapping, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"What's that? How could there be such a monster in the Mage Tower?" Catherine glanced up at the empty city wall, the monster had flown away without a trace, she withdrew her gaze, and whispered to Rog beside her.
"It's a gargoyle, similar to a rock golem, a stone statue that has been resurrected through magic, but this guy is more difficult than a rock golem, and can switch between flesh and blood and stone statues at any time, and after turning into stone, not only is the body extremely hard, but also can heal wounds. β
At this point, Rogge suddenly closed his mouth, only to hear a whistling sound overhead, and a gargoyle flew over at a gallop.
Rog watched its back and continued to Catherine, "The archmages of the Mage Tower use these guys to patrol the entire island and the City of Radiance, and they can also be used as soldiers when necessary. β
"No wonder the Great Magician came to Stonehenge to block our way out!" Catherine suddenly realized.
"You're so smart, you'll steal what little bit of my ability will be stolen from you if you go on like this!" Rogge quipped approvingly, smiling and turning away, and Catherine blushed shyly and trotted after in three steps and two steps.
The two quickly approached the large square in front of the mage tower, and Rog and Catherine hid in the alley and watched the griffin knights in the square, but did not find Antonio, he set his eyes on the towering mage tower, guessing that Antonio must be meeting with the Grand Master in the conference room at this moment.
Suddenly, the little owl landed on his shoulder from the sky and chirped, "I found it, I found it! Our things are there! Only a big-nosed old man is watching, and there are so many delicious things in it!"
"You must have stolen it yourself!" Rogge squinted at the little one, and the little owl replied unconvinced, "No! I clearly left you a lot of delicious cookie scraps!"
"I knew you were a kind bird!" Rogge rolled his eyes at the little one, turned back to Catherine and said, "Let's go, let's go get our stuff back first!"
They rounded the road to the vicinity of the warehouse, and Rogge observed the situation around him, and seeing that there was no one around, he released the little owl, and with the immobilization light of the little one's eyes, he easily knocked down the magician guarding the door.
"It's really a lax defense, the mage tower hasn't been attacked by foreign enemies for many years, and if it goes on like this, something big will happen sooner or later!" Rog said to Catherine as he pushed open the door of the warehouse and dragged the fainted mage into the warehouse.
The two followed the little owl who led the way, walking past the rows of shelves neatly arranged with magic scrolls, robes and staffs, magic crystals, and other items, and soon saw an empty shelf with Rogge's silver sword, Catherine's twin spears, Murphy's scimitar, and Tully's mermaid staff.
"We'll just take our own things!
Rogge stepped forward and picked up the silver handcuff and handed it to Catherine, carrying the silver sword on his back, then took the cigar pouch and tied it to his belt, and took out a cigar from it and was about to light it, when he suddenly raised his head and frowned.
"What's wrong?" Catherine, who noticed the abnormality, immediately became nervous, and looked at Rogge with two uneasy eyes, Rogge looked around and whispered: "There's something in here, it's secretly watching us, I underestimated the defense ...... here"
He lit the cigar in his hand, brought it to his lips, took a gentle breath, and said meaningfully, "If I'm not mistaken, trouble is coming!"
Before he could finish speaking, a black shadow fell from the sky and threw Rogge to the ground, Rogge reflexively grabbed its arm, rolled on the ground a few times, and threw it out of the way, knocking a row of shelves to the ground.
"That's ...... Gargoyles?" Catherine watched in amazement as Rog rose from the ground, and not far in front of him, a huge gargoyle rose from the ground, glared at the two of them with blood-red eyes, opened its mouth to reveal two rows of protruding buckteeth, and let out a terrifying roar.
The flustered Catherine raised the silver handcuff in her hand and was about to shoot the gargoyle, but Rog reached out and pressed the muzzle of her gun, saying: "Don't shoot, the gun doesn't make sense to the gargoyle, it will only attract more enemies, you hide to the side, I'll solve it myself......"
Before they finished speaking, another black shadow whizzed over the two of them, and the two hurriedly lowered their heads to dodge, and when they looked up, they found another gargoyle on the ground to their right.
"Well, I'll take back what I said and get a sword from the shelf over there, kid, and hopefully you'll use that weapon!"
Rogge took a hard sip of his cigar, pointed to the shelf full of swords on his right, stared at the third gargoyles that had landed again, and muttered, "We're in big trouble this time!"
