Chapter 47: The Will of My Lord
Hearing that there were a large number of enemy troops, the atmosphere in the camp suddenly became solemn. Evan waved his hand, signaling that he understood.
"Marcus, you personally lead the team to reconnoiter the situation of the enemy army, mainly to see how many soldiers the enemy has, you can use your own squad as a reference. In addition, it is better to see how many elites the enemy has, how many levies, how many cavalry and how many infantry, and so on."
"Yes, sir. I'm going to finish it."
As soon as Marcus left, Evan ordered each of the remaining soldiers to prepare chest-high logs, sharpening the tops for backup. After preparing this, Evan asked the soldiers to build a temporary camp in the local area to be used as a garrison.
At the same time, Skuk was secretly found, and the two of them didn't know what they were secretly discussing. Although the others were puzzled, they did not bother, or deliberately listened.
Half a day later, Marcus returned to the makeshift camp with the first team. Upon returning to the camp, Marcus immediately reported to Evan what he had seen. Hearing that Marcus was back, several of the other captains rushed to Evan to hear what Marcus had discovered.
"The enemy army is very numerous, my lord. I estimate the size of at least twenty-odd squads. There are seven or eight squads that look very good with weapons and armor, and most of the others are levies."
More than twenty squads? Evan did the math, it was about three hundred. However, given that his men are mathematically almost zero, the actual number of enemy troops should be more than three hundred.
"My lord, there are too many enemies, we should retreat." Captain Ikt was the first to speak.
The other captains all nodded, if there were only about ten teams of enemies, then they could still fight a dozen. They still had the confidence to defeat the enemy with their own equipment and training, but now that the enemy had dispatched more than twenty squads, not to mention the conscripts, even their confidence had been shaken.
"Retreat? We retreated, won't the enemy retreat? We're going to go around a big circle to get back to the front. The enemy is walking along the main road, is it slower for us to cross the mountains and mountains?"
Skuk sneered and sent out a direct soul torture.
"My lord, this battle should be fought, and no matter how much you pay, you will earn it."
"Skuk, you go fight those twenty-odd squads. How many lives do you have to die?" Ikt scolded.
"I'm more in favor of retreating now, but Skuk is right, maybe we should retreat some distance and engage the enemy on a different battlefield." Marcus asked with some hesitation.
"Retreat? Marcus, where do you think we should retreat and engage the enemy? Don't forget, we're in enemy territory, surrounded by enemy strongholds. If we don't fight a decisive battle near here, should we run near the enemy's stronghold and fight the enemy?"
Marcus wanted to refute, but he didn't know where to start.
"But Skuk, it's a fact that we can't defeat enemy reinforcements. It's too much of a difference, and even if we can kill three enemies by ourselves, we won't be able to kill them all." Quake asked rhetorically.
Evan watched them silently, not participating in the discussion. He looked at the timing, and it seemed that it was almost up, and stood up. All the eyes of everyone in the tent immediately turned to him, hoping to hear the solution from him.
"There's no point in arguing. Since we have differences, I have come up with a very good solution."
Listening to Aiwen's brainless words, several captains were a little puzzled.
"Since we have a disagreement on the question of whether to fight or retreat, it is better for us to leave this matter to our lord to decide, and hope that he can give us the most correct judgment."
Listening to Aiwen's method, the captains were all dumbfounded, if they hadn't been with their own adults all the time, they would have thought that their own adults were crazy.
"Skuk, gather the whole army. I will pray under the gaze of all and ask Our Lord to judge!"
"My lord, is this really good?" Quake asked, a little worried.
Ikt looked at the decent Aven and at his companions with a thoughtful look.
"Eh, Ikter, why do you say your lord is praying at this time?"
Snicky beside him was a little confused, so he had to whisper to ask Ikt, who had the best relationship with him.
"I'm afraid your lordship has seen something wrong with our reactions. If you really can't figure it out, choose to trust the adult. Adults will never let us down."
Ikt's vague answer made Snich a little unsatisfied, but he only muttered a few words and stopped complaining.
Inside the camp, all the Snapdragon soldiers and levies gathered. Evan walked over to the makeshift platform and addressed everyone.
"I think many of you already know that the enemy has sent an army of more than 300 men in the hope of annihilating us all here. I have been discussing with the captains for a long time, and I don't know what to do, so I now pray to my lord that it will guide us."
When the soldiers of the Snapdragon Army heard that the enemy had actually sent so many troops, they immediately talked about it. Many people looked panicked, and they didn't know where to put their hands.
At Aven's suggestion, Skuk brought a wooden cross. Evan knelt before the cross and prayed as if communing with God and listening to His guidance.
After a while, Evan turned to look at the soldiers of the Snapdragon Army and shouted, "My lord told me that it asked me to prepare a hundred gold coins and throw them upwards.
If it's all the same aspect, it means that it supports us in the fight. If there is a difference, it means that it does not support us in the fight, and I will lead everyone to retreat."
The soldiers were shocked again, but they didn't expect our lord to really answer the prayers of their own lords. Standing at the front, Ickert and Quake looked at Evan with some concern, and the hundred gold coins were all facing the same direction, which sounded impossible.
Skuk again brought a purse of money that had been salvaged from Sika Castle. Evan grabbed a handful of gold coins and threw them into the air, and the soldiers quickly withdrew from a large circle, staring at the ground with wide eyes.
"Thank you, Lord of God, for guiding us!"
"Thank you, my lord!"
In the crowd, some soldiers saw the results and fell to their knees reverently, chanting the praises of God.
"This ...... This...... Impossible!"
Marcus had a grimace on his face, and he could clearly see that the hundreds of gold coins on the ground were all on the same side. He rubbed his eyes, making sure he was not mistaken.
At this moment, he had only one thought in his heart, could it be that his own lord was really favored by my lord? He hesitated for a moment and looked at Quake, only to see that the latter was also shocked and did not come back to his senses at all.
"As you see, our lord's guidance is for us to fight the enemy in a decisive battle! Let's have the courage to fight to the death against the enemy!"
"Fight! War! Fight!"
The soldiers of the Snapdragon Army shouted as if the enemy was not three hundred, but thirty, and each of them had a red glow on their faces and looked excited.
Evan pressed his hands in the void and motioned for Skuk to take the gold coins from the ground.
"My Lord has told me more things. I'll talk about the rest when the battle is over. Now let's prepare ourselves for war, and then there will be a bloody battle! But I believe that with the blessing of our Lord and the fight of all of us, victory will be ours!"
"Victory! Victory! Victory!"
"All the captains come to discuss how to destroy the enemy, and the others sharpen their weapons and prepare for a battle!"
Evan stepped off the stage with that, time was running out, and he had to seize every minute he had left......
