Chapter 5 Diagon Alley Behind the Bar

It's a dirty, cramped pub. If Professor McGonagall hadn't pointed it out, Nolin probably wouldn't have noticed. People who passed by in a hurry didn't even look at it, as if it didn't exist in the world. However, as soon as Professor McGonagall stopped, Norlin immediately realized that this was the famous Leaky Cauldron.

"This is the Leaky Cauldron Bar. You may deal with this place a lot in the future. Professor McGonagall explained, stepping randomly through the bar door.

As a famous place, it's too dark and dirty. And there's a lot of people here. Several old women sat in the corner of the room with small glasses of sherry, and one of them was smoking a long cigarette pouch. A middle-aged man who occupies a table alone holds a wine glass with a blank look, and the table is full of black spiders. A man in a tall black top hat is chatting with a bar owner whose hair is almost stripped and looks like a shriveled walnut.

As soon as Norlin and Professor McGonagall entered, the chattering suddenly stopped. As a high-ranking member of Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall naturally knows countless people. They greeted each other, and Professor McGonagall responded.

"Long time no see, Professor McGonagall!" The barkeeper's wrinkled face was a little surprised, and he picked up a cup, "Would you like a drink?" ”

"No Tom. Long time no see. I still have something to do. Professor McGonagall smiled and nodded in acknowledgment.

"Oh! Professor McGonagall, I can see you here! The man who was talking to Old Tom came over with a look of surprise when he saw the two of them clearly.

"Ahh Professor McGonagall was a little surprised.

Nolin's eyes froze, but almost no one paid attention to him. He scrutinized the man whom Professor McGonagall had become "Professor Krell". This is a very attractive man, with hard lines on his face and a faint scar on the left side of his face.

There is no such professor in the original book, it seems that he is the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts class this semester, and only this unlucky profession that changes every year has a vacancy. Norlin thought to himself.

"I'm here to buy new supplies for this kid - this is Norin Davies, who will soon be a member of Hogwarts." Professor McGonagall said, "Nolin, this is Professor Krell, a professor at Hogwarts. ”

"Hello, Professor Krell." Norin bowed slightly.

"Hello, Norlin." Professor Krell looked at him and said in a tone that seemed to be meaningful, "Looking forward to seeing you at school!" ”

"Then Professor Krell, let's go first." Professor McGonagall spoke, leading the way to the back of the bar.

Norin said goodbye to Professor Krell and hurried to follow.

"Professor, what course does Professor Krell teach?" Norlin asked confirmatively.

"Defence Against the Dark Arts. I teach Transfiguration. You will naturally understand these courses as soon as they start. Professor McGonagall explained briefly.

They walked through the bar to a small, walled patio on all sides. There was nothing but a garbage can and a few weeds.

Norlin was silent, watching as Professor McGonagall pulled a small wooden stick from her cloak and struck it three times on one of the wall tiles.

"Three bricks on the trash can, two more in the cross, and three times with the wand. Norlin remembered, this was the way to get into Diagon Alley from the Leaky Cauldron. Professor McGonagall turned back to Nolin.

The brick she had struck shook and began to move, and a small hole appeared in the middle, and the hole grew larger and larger, and in a short time there appeared in front of them a wide archway large enough for the two of them to pass, leading to a cobblestone road that winded and had no end in sight.

For the first time, the door to a new world opens in Nolin's eyes.

"Welcome, Norin." Professor McGonagall said softly, "Welcome to Diagon Alley and truly enter the wizarding world. ”

As they walked along the archway, Norlin looked back and saw that the archway had narrowed and then returned to its solid walls.

There are all kinds of strange shops on this street. Dazzling sunlight casts on a stack of pots outside the door of the nearest store. Above the pot hangs a brand - a cauldron made of copper, brass, tin-plated, silver, complete in models, self-stirring, foldable. Not far away was a pet shop, from which a low, soft whine could be heard. Out of the corner of Nolin's eye, a stone statue spits colorful bubbles into the sky. The bubbles fluttered in the wind, and the landing point was a small shop window with a broom of strange shape. Norin continued to walk forward, robes shops, bookstores, bars, and more came into his sight. Other windows were filled with baskets of bat spleens and eel eyes, and piles of spellbooks, quills, rolls of parchment, and strange silverware that Norlin had never seen before.

"There's a lot you need." "But obviously, we have to get the money first. ”

Norlin greedily took in all his gaze. This world, for him now, is an incomparable novelty.

The two continued on their way, eventually stopping in front of a snow-white building that towered over the surrounding shops. On the shiny bronze gate, there is a string of wide characters - Gringotts.

"Gringotts, the Wizard's Bank, opened by the elves, is arguably the safest and most reliable place." Professor McGonagall said slowly, stepping forward.

Norlin pursed his lips, somewhat unimpressed by the "safest and most reliable place" assessment. As far as he knew, Gringotts had been stolen quite a few times.

Standing next to the gate was a fairy in a scarlet and gold uniform. They walked up the white stone steps, and Norlin took the opportunity to look at the elf. He was probably a head shorter than Nolin, with an intelligent swarthy face, a pointed beard, and exceptionally long hands and feet. When they entered, the elf bowed to them.

Then a second door appeared in front of them, and the silver door was engraved with the following words: Please enter, stranger, but beware of the fate of insatiable greed, and if you take it for nothing, you will be punished with the severest punishment, so if you want to take a piece of wealth from our underground vaults that has never belonged to you, O thief, you have been warned, beware that it is not a treasure but a bad retribution.

It's not streamlined enough, it's too long-winded. Norlin secretly spat out.

Two elves bowed to them and led them into a tall marble hall. About a hundred or so goblins sat on high stools behind a long row of counters, some weighing coins on copper scales, others examining gems with eyepieces, and scribbling them into the large ledger. There was a meticulous and serious expression on his face.

There were countless doors in the hall, leading to different places, and many elves directed people in and out of these doors. Professor McGonagall and Norlin made their way to the front counter.

"Hello, I'll get some money." Professor McGonagall said as she found a goblin who looked a little idle.

"The vault, the key."

"Number 24." Professor McGonagall said, motioning for Norlin to pull out the key.

"Follow me." The goblin took the key, stared at it sharply for a long time, and then turned around and said.

He opened a door and walked in, Professor McGonagall and Norlin following closely behind. In front of him was a narrow stone corridor, illuminated by burning torches. Under the stone corridor is a steep descent, and there is a small railway below. The goblin whistled, and a small cart rushed along the railroad.

The three of them got into the cart, and the cart spewed a cloud of steam as if cheering, and it ran wildly. Norlin was so blown by the wind that he couldn't open his eyes, and after some time, the car stopped in front of a door.

The elf unlocks the door. A faint smell of stuffiness made Norlin wrinkle his nose. However, when he saw the situation in front of him clearly, Norlin couldn't help but gasp. Jewels came to his face, and there were piles of gold and silver coins inside, but there was not half a bronze nat to be seen. Inside the small vault was a cabinet with several things wrapped in cloth. Norlin didn't open it, he had a hunch that he didn't need these things now, and maybe one day, this cabinet would give him a big surprise.

"Liana was very rich." Professor McGonagall smiled faintly, "Go and take your wealth." The gold coin is Galleons, which is 17 silver sicos and 1 Galleon, and 29 copper nats are 1 sico, which is simple enough. ”

Norlin asked the goblin for a bag and grabbed a few and stuffed it in, feeling awkward about the strange conversion. But my mother turned out to be a hidden rich man, so isn't she also a rich second generation?

The thought made Norlin laugh and cry.

"Let's go." Seeing that Norlin had taken so many gold coins, Professor McGonagall raised an eyebrow. But she didn't say much, and turned and walked out of the vault.

After another ride in the car, they stood again in the sun-drenched street outside Gringotts.

"Let's go buy you a uniform first." Professor McGonagall looked across the street at Madame Morkin's robes shop and said.

Lady Morkin was a stocky witch with a smile and a purple dress. When she saw it, she exclaimed, "Long time no see!" Minerva. ”

"Long time no see." Professor McGonagall began, "Grab the Hogwarts uniform for this kid, Lady Morkin." ”

"Gladly." Mrs. Morkin said with a smile. She had Norlin stand on a footstool, put a robe on him, and pinned out the length that suited him.

After about three minutes, Mrs. Morkin motioned for him to come down. Then she walked into the back room, and it wasn't long before she came out with three uniforms in hand. After paying the money, Professor McGonagall exchanged a few more pleasantries with Lady Morkin before continuing her shopping trip with Nolin.
