Chapter 29 Appendix
1 To Ye Shaojun [1] to talk about printing several books, to be the same, the so-called mutual foam [2], very sad.
Exegesis:
[1] This is based on the poem "Mr. Bang Lu Xun" written by the recipient (published in Writers, Vol. 2, No. 2, November 1936). There was no punctuation.
Ye Shaojun, whose name is Shengtao, is a native of Wuxian County, Jiangsu, a writer and a member of the Literature Research Association. He is the author of the novel "Ni Huanzhi" and a variety of short stories.
[2] See "Zhuangzi. Fortune of Heaven.
1 To my mother [2] There was a hurricane in Shanghai a few days ago, and the water is indeed a residence, but because of the high terrain, there is none. After a few days of cloud, to the beginning of the day before yesterday, at night that is not a jacket and a velvet rope vest, it is indeed a lot of experienced, know the burden of things, men sometimes do not understand, but he is noisy, kindergarten is Mr. Yun Yin does not go to the countryside to play, find a few country children to be quiet, write a few words of article ear.
It's okay as usual, don't read it.
Sept. 29 [1933] [1] The original of this letter is mutilated.
3 To Gao Zhi [1] I'm sorry because I've not seen visitors for several years. This is not for anything else, but there were many visitors at that time, and there was no time to entertain, and it was not good to see or see, so I had to hide, and now I still keep this old way, and I hope to forgive and investigate. Exegesis:
[1] According to Zhichun's "Lu Xun Incident" (published in Ta Kung Pao, Shanghai, December 29, 1948. Grand Park). The original letter was written on December 9, 1933.
Gao Zhi (1911-1960), a native of Hefei, Anhui Province, was a translator. At that time, he worked as a compiler at the Nanjing Zhongshan Culture and Education Center.
4 To Liu Xian [1] A Henan door god and other things, which were also ---- in my hometown ---- Shaoxing, and were also posted on the wall of the kitchen door, but now they have changed, and they are probably lithographed, and they should be understood by the public, and I think we should try to use their methods. However, there is a slight difference between the old works and the new works after that, the old ones know the story first and then look at the paintings, while the new ones have to look at the paintings and know the ---- story, so the structure is more difficult.
I can't criticize all the woodcuts. The second picture of the Yellow River Flood Map is the best; The first one fails to show a "howl". "No Note There" is good and powerful, but the knife technique in the sky and on the shore is too chaotic. Ah Q's likeness, in my mind, there is a little less hooliganism, there is such a fierce character in us, you can eat idle meals, and you don't have to work for others, Mrs. Zhao can be like this.
The first picture on the first page of the "Scream",[2] As the letter says, of course, it is possible, but it is a "symbol", and intellectuals cannot understand it, and the size is not too large.
2. "TheWoodcutofToday" [3] I once had a copy, but it was destroyed because the plate was made, and I bought it again, but it was out of print. Daglish[4], I wrote the book in the English bookma
[5] The things quoted in the introduction column of the new book have been copied, and I have not seen his entire work. Mef-fe
t[6] In addition to "Shimintu", I also have seven serial paintings, called "Your Sister", which were exhibited the year before. His engraving, according to Kol-lwitL's criticism, said that he was very talented, but he was afraid that he would be harmed by talent, which probably means that he was too arbitrary and left realism, which I think is very correct. However, the spirit is great, so those seven pieces, in the future, I still want to reprint, and when I sell a part of the woodcut collection---- a total of 60 pieces, called "Introducing Jade Collection", has been printed ----.
I have not heard of a special collection of the Japanese woodcarvers mentioned in the letter. Their ethos is to try their best to leave the society and be a hermit, and the content of the works is nothing to learn, and only a little technique can be adopted, and the Uchiyama Shoten Magazine Department sometimes sells "White Black (handprinted) and "Printmaking Art" (machine-printed), and each book is pentagram, just by looking at it, the trend of the Japanese woodcut world can be roughly seen.
3. The picture of "Kong Yiji" [7], I think it is good, especially the expressions on many faces, which are not badly engraved, and are slightly different from this article, and it is not a problem, but this Kong Yiji is the Kong Yiji of the north, such as the mule cart, we don't have it there, but this can only be so, and it makes me know that if Kong Yiji was born in the north, it should also be such an environment.
Fourth, European woodcuts, in the middle of the nineteenth century, were originally painted by one person, and the carver was another, painting and carving, only recently. Now to engrave other people's paintings, naturally everything is possible. But there must be a purpose: or to make the flow of his painting wider; Or in addition to the original painting, add the specialty of carving knives.
I have only seen the works of パルパン and パスO ケール [8], and it is explained that these two people are famous because they can express the colors of the original paintings with shades (they are probably copies of other people's works); And it contains a feature that is not found in the original painting, that is, the characteristics of woodcuts. When copperplate was not yet popular, this kind of woodcarver could also be famous. But none of them were woodcarvers。。。。。。。
6. The "Collection of Jade" was sent with the letter, one volume was given to Mr., and one copy was forwarded to the M.K. Woodcut Research Society.
7. The picture of "Liberation of DQ" was misprinted, and the printing was a mess, and it could not be seen. Exegesis:
[1] The first five here are quoted in the afterword of the recipient's woodcut "The True Story of Ah Q" (published by the Unnamed Woodcut Society in June 1935). The letters were written between 1934 and 1935. The latter two are quoted from the recipient's article "Lu Xun and Woodcut Prints" (published in the monthly magazine "Literature and Art Spring and Autumn", Vol. 5, No. 4, October 1947).
Liu Xian, formerly known as Wang Zhidui, the word Shensi, pen name Liu Xian, a native of Lanfeng, Henan (now Lankao), woodcarver. At that time, he was a student of Shanghai Xinhua Art College and a member of the Anonymous Woodcarving Society.
[2] According to the recipient's recollection, the picture of "The Scream" refers to the woodcut collection "The Scream". These include four sets of woodcuts of the four novels "The True Story of Ah Q", "Kong Yiji", "Storm" and "White Light". The "first sheet of the first page" is a comprehensive engraving of the main characters of the novels of "The Scream".

[8] パルパン and パスOケール recalled by the recipients, namely Babon and Hasmager, both French printmakers.
5 To Qian Xingyu [1] 1 This book [2] was originally a little larger, it was raw, and it had been cut small by the old owner.
Second, as for the written seal characters, it is not made by Mr. Taiyan, but written by Chen Shizeng, his name is Heng Su, Yining, the son of Mr. Chen Sanli, and later named after the painting, and now he has passed away. Exegesis:
[1] The two articles here are quoted from the article "Lu Xun's Writings" written by the recipient (published in the Salvation Daily, October 19, 1937). The dates indicated in the citations are 12 February 1935 and 30 April 1936 respectively.
Qian Xingyu (1900-1977), pen name A Ying, was a native of Wuhu, Anhui Province, and a literary scholar. A key member of the Sun Society.
[2] The books mentioned here and below refer to the first volume of the Collected Novels of Foreign Territories.
6 To You Bingqi [1] The Japanese national character is indeed very good, but the greatest blessing is that it has not been invaded by the Mongols; We were born on the mainland, we were early in agriculture, and then we were victimized by nomads, and our history is full of blood, but we have supported it to this day, which is actually great. But we also have to expose our own shortcomings, which are intended to revive and improve...... Uchiyama's book is for another purpose, and the things he cites are not found to us until they are revealed, so they are interesting, but if they are self-sufficient, they are harmful. Exegesis:
[1] According to the August 1936 translation of "A Japanese View of China" published by Kaiming Bookstore. Translator's Notes. "A Japanese View of China", that is, Uchiyama Mitsuzo's "The Posture of Living China". According to Lu Xun's Diary, this letter was written on March 4, 1936.
