Chapter 9: The Fairy Tales of Ero Xianke

sequence

Mr. Eroxenko's fairy tales are now being compiled into an episode and appearing in front of the eyes of readers living in China. This was my hope, so I am very grateful and like.

Among the twelve articles in this collection, "Autobiography" and "The Tower Built for Falling" were translated by Mr. Hu Yuzhi, "The Land of Rainbows" was translated by Mr. Fuquan, and the rest were translated by me.

As far as the translations I have chosen, I was the first to get his first collection, Songs Before the Night, which translates the first six articles, and then the second collection, The Last Sigh, which translates Two Little Deaths, and Modern Times, which translates For Humanity, and the original manuscript of The Fire of the World.

In my opinion, the translations are "The Narrow Cage", "The Pool", "The Heart of the Eagle", "The Dream of a Spring Night", and in addition, they are translated according to the author's wishes. Therefore, I feel that what the author wants to call through the world is the sorrow of all-pervading love and yet not being loved, while what I unfold is a childlike, beautiful, but real dream. Is this dream, or is it the author's veil of sorrow? Well, I'm too dreamy, but I hope that the author will not depart from this childlike dream, and also call people into this dream, and see the real rainbow, so that we will not be sleepwalkers

Translator's Note on The Narrow Cage

After the Japanese exiled a blind Russian man on May 28, 1921, there was much discussion in their newspapers, and I paid attention to the wandering blind poet Huaxili Erochenko.

However, Erosenko was not the world's most famous poet; I don't know much about his experience. All that is known is that he was about thirty years old, first in India, and was expelled by the British officials on the grounds of anarchist tendencies; So he went to Japan. They had been sent to a school for the blind and mute, and now they have been expelled by Japanese officials on suspicion of propagating dangerous ideas.

Japan and Britain are allies, and since they were expelled from Britain, they must also be expelled from Japan; But this time it was added with verbal abuse and beatings. Just as all the people who were beaten often left behind objects or blood, Erosenko also left behind things, which is a collection of his creations, one is "Song Before Dawn", and the other is "The Last Sigh".

Now the first one has been published, a total of 14 pieces, which is a fairy tale style work that he made in his wanderings for the Japanese. On the whole, he has no interest in politics and economy, and he does not hide any smell of dangerous ideas; He had only a naïve, but beautiful, pure heart, and the boundaries of the world could not limit his dreams, so he often made very angry remarks about Japan.

His Russian spirit of the great wilderness is not in place in Japan, and of course he should be rewarded with a beating, but he did not expect it, which shows that he only has a naïve but pure heart. After I closed the book, I am deeply grateful to the people and writings of mankind who have such a pure heart.

This "Narrow Cage" is the first article in "The Song Before Dawn", which is about the feelings and anger of drifting in India. He himself said, "This one was written with blood and tears." In India alone, they are not concerned with their own lack of effort to live a human life, but they are indignant at being forbidden to "Sati", so that even if they have no enemies, they are still "nasty slaves" in a cage.

The tears of the vast number of poets, I love this naïve Russian blind Erosenko who attacks the "Sati" of other countries, and it is far more than the praise of the "Sati" of his own country, the Indian poet St. Tagore, who has won the Nobel Prize; I curse the beautiful and poisonous mandala flower.

ta has such a meaning: life is like a meteor, Huo's flash, attract people's attention, light over, disappear, people will forget!

But this is still as far as what is seen, and there are many meteors that people don't see.

At the beginning of May, for the sake of public order, the Japanese expelled a blind Russian man from their borders and sent him to Vladivostok.

This is the poet Huaxili Erosenko.

At the time of his expulsion, there were probably some sad things, and the newspapers published a lot of grievances about several of his friends, but strangely enough, he left the gifts of beauty to Japan: one was "The Song Before Dawn", and the other was "The Last Sigh".

It is a collection of poets' fairy tales, containing beautiful feelings and simple hearts. Some people say that his works are too serious for children and too serious for adults, and this may be true.

But I don't think his fairy tales are too unserious, and I don't see any dangerous thoughts. He is not like a propagandist, a demagogue; He is only dreamy, pure and white, and has a big heart, and sighs for the unfortunate people who are not of his race. That's probably why he was expelled.

He flashed; I have long forgotten it, and unfortunately today I saw his "Song Before Dawn", so I had no choice but to introduce his heart to the Chinese. It's a pity that Chinese is a hurried text, and the words are also hurried, so it is the most suitable for translating fairy tales; I don't have the talent, at least half of the calmness and beauty of the original work.

Translator's Note on "A Dream of a Spring Night".

I have already featured an article in the "Morning Post" last month. This is also included in "Song Before Dawn", and that one is the most poetic work. He himself said, "It was made as my smile." Although it is a sad smile, in this age, in this country, there is no happy smile. ”

The meaning of the text is very clear, but it is just the sin of the possession of beauty, and the situation of the spring dream (which is completely different from the so-called spring dream of a spring dream in China, and should be paid attention to). And his vision for the future is in the final verse.

The author used to be known for his dangerous thoughts, but after reading this one, it makes people feel that he really only has very peaceful and generous thoughts, close to conciliation. But humans are still very nonsense, and they are afraid of it. In fact, if this is the case, it is still people's happiness, and the terrible thing is that it will end up with only dangerous thoughts.

I previously translated the author's surname as Ero Xianke, and later transcribed it in the "Enlightenment" column of the "Republic of China Daily", changing the first tone to love, which is good, and now it has also been changed. Lucao is called duck plantar grass in China, because it is very detrimental to the beauty of the article, so the original name is still used.
