Chapter 20: The Translator's Notes on the Bitter Peng

IAK has been to China before, and the writers of Shanghai have hosted him with a banquet, and there are many people who know about it, so there is no need to say more. Here are a few strokes: First, although he grew up in the whirlpool of revolution, he was not a proletarian writer, but one of the attackers who gained a lot of advantage from his status as a "fellow traveler". Second, it was written ten years ago, in the so-called "wartime communist era", when the revolution was at its beginning, and the situation was very chaotic, so naturally there were many such literati at that time - they regarded "revolution as the natural rebellion against civilization, the village against the metropolis, but in the depths of the Russian plains and forests, the peasants who lived thousands of years ago are the achievers of the revolution."

However, his skills are very outstanding. For example, in this one, he uses archaeology, legends, village life, peasant conversations, and the E that he likes to use

The story of Otic is woven into a section of the revolutionary phenomenon, and in this passage it is a vivid picture of how in the uneasy air of disturbance and bloodshed is a return to an instinctive life, but there is also a new life in the leap. However, I myself felt a little dissatisfied with the fact that in the narrative and discussion, it often made people feel cold,—— which may be one of the reasons why he was criticized.

This one, retranslated from his collection of short stories "A Year of Their Life", was originally a translation by Masahide Hiraoka in Japan, and the thirty-sixth part of "New Anthology of Overseas Literature" published by Tokyo Shinchaosha.

Translator's Note on Fertilizer

The author of this article is a very brilliant female writer now; Her work has been featured more than once or twice in China, so there is no need to say more. However, the most reliable ones believed by the translator are the several translated by Mr. Cao Jinghua, which are included in the short story collection "Tobacco Bag", with the author's biography attached, and readers who love to read the works of this writer can refer to it themselves.

The above translation is a story about the revolution in a small village on the Russian side more than ten years ago, and it failed in the middle, the content and technology are very exquisite, and it is the best of the more than ten novels of this author that the translator has seen. Unfortunately, the translation is difficult to be confident in, because it is a retranslation of Fuji Tatsuma's translation from the twenty-third book of the Complete Works of Emerging Literature, and the original translator has already recorded a postscript:

"Suivrina's work, written in the dialect of a real peasant, is so incomprehensible that even in Russia, it is impossible to read it unless you are well versed in local customs and vernacular. Therefore, there are special dictionaries for those who want to see the works of Suiflina. But the translator does not have such a dictionary at hand. …… Always unable to figure out where to go, she sought advice from a Tatar woman who was well versed in peasant affairs. Suivrina was also of the Tatar lineage. When it came time to ask for advice, I knew more and more that this article was difficult to solve. …… If you go to Tambov or some other country and live among the peasants for three or four years, you may get a complete translation. ”

However, the local dialect of the peasants in the translation has been changed to the local dialect of the Japanese countryside, and there is no special dictionary in the ordinary dictionary. So I had to ask for advice from Mr. M, who knew those local dialects, and there were no less than 30 places in the whole article, and I noted this to express my gratitude to Chenyun.

In addition, the so-called "Catholics" in the article were a faction of Christianity and opposed the war, so they were very oppressed by the imperial government at that time, but by the time of the revolution, they finally showed their true colors. If you don't keep this in mind, it's often difficult to understand in this article.

On August 12, 1931, Rowan was recorded in the summer poetry hall of West Lake.

"Mountain Folk Pastoral Song"

Translator's Notes on "Mountain People's Pastoral Singing: Preface".

The retranslation of "The Preface to the Song of the Mountain Folk Pastoral" from the translation of the Japanese Kasai Zhenfu was originally contained in the frontispiece of this book, and it can be said that it is nothing more than a very light-hearted sketch.

Written by Pio Ba

oja Y Nessi was born on December 28, 1872 in San Cybas, Spain, and received his Docto from the University of Madrid

and, literally, on a par with Ibn Naz.

But in terms of skill, I am afraid that he is still above Ibn Naz, that is, in the nature of writing about the nature of the mountain dwellers Vasco, witty and gloomy, although in the translation it is also possible to see the extraordinary means of the author. This preface is certainly a little sketch, but in the laughter, doesn't it also contain a deep melancholy?

Translator's Notes on "Ilisha the Wanderer" and "The People of the Basik".

Pio Ba

oja y Nessi was born on December 28, 1872 in San Chebastin, Spain, close to France. He studied medicine at the University of Valencia and received his doctorate at the University of Madrid. He then went to the city of Stadena in Basko, where he practiced medicine for two years, and then with his brother Ricardo

do) to Madrid, opened a bakery for six years.

Ideologically, he is an anarchist and looks forward to the action of the bottom of the mechanics (Dy

)。 In literature and art, it is with Ibazzi (Vi

t Iba

ez) is a well-known figure in the modern Spanish literary scene, and is the most original writer with a philosophical background. There are 40 kinds of works, most of which are novels, and many of them are long, and most of them deal with major topics such as social and ideological issues. There are three major productions: "The Past", "The City" and "The Sea"; There is also a series of publications, "The Record of an Activist", which has so far been published to the thirteenth series. Those who have the name of masterpieces probably fall into this category. But in many short stories, there are also many good stories with a unique style.

The Vasco are the Py, who have lived between Spain and France since ancient times

e

The people on both sides of the mountain range are regarded as the "mystery of the world", and the Baroha is endowed with the blood of this people. The articles selected here are also all articles describing the nature and life of the Basik, translated from the thirteenth part of the Japanese "New Selection of Overseas Literature", "Basik's Pastoral Tunes". Previous (Elizabideel Vaga-bu

do) is the original translation of Kasai Towno; The latter was translated by Kansei Nagata, and was originally a collection of short stories, Vidas Somb (Gloomy Life).

IAS), because they were all written about the temperament of the Baske, so the titles of the Japanese translations were used and not changed.

Translator's Notes on "The Friends".

"Friends" is one of the translations of "Mountain Folk Pastoral Singing" by Kasai Zhenfu, which was published in the preface in the last issue, and uses a witty pen to write the stories of celebrities in mountain villages that are not elegant. But this article makes it clear twice: the place of the Baskes is a French territory. The people of the territory are probably gloomy, otherwise they are giggling, as it is written here "the scholars and philosophers of Pella". Residents of the same place tend to have two opposing temperaments in appearance. But on the contrary, it is like two sides of a piece of paper, in fact, it is one.

The author is a doctor, and the doctor is probably a short-lived ghost, not to mention that the person who writes about it is a mountain man who is persecuted by a powerful country, although he is giggling, of course, there will be no fun in his bones.

But what I want to introduce is not the pleasure of literature, but the skill of the author. In such a short story, the protagonist Dietur Pitai is needless to say, his wife La Condido, and the coachman Ma Nanxiu, aren't they also very vivid and give us a clear impression? If not, it is the translator's sin.

Translator's Notes on "Farewell to the Youth".

P. Baroha, the author of "Farewell to the Youth", is no longer a stranger to the reader, and there is no need to introduce it here. This work, which is also one of the "Mountain People's Pastoral Songs" translated by Kasai Townso of Japan, is a novel of a new style written in a drama-like form, which is often used by the author; But he has also performed on stage. Because this form of novel is not very common in China, it is translated and can be regarded as a kind of reference for readers.

Adios a La Bohemia is its original name, and to be honestly translated, it should probably be "The Parting of the Bohemian Stream". But this is already a retranslation, that is, the text, and I don't know how far away it is from the original, so I simply adopted the Japanese translation of the title, called "Farewell to the Youth", which is also very similar to the Chinese poem title.

The location is Mad, the capital city of Spain

id), the matter is very simple, but it is written that the ending of the literary and artistic young people who were full of fantasy before, and then finally disillusioned; And new ones are happening, and people are talking in cafes similar to their predecessors, so you can imagine the future. The translator is unheard, and he had only heard of such a group of literary artists in Paris, but after reading this one, he realized that there was one in Spain, and his speech and action were similar to those in Paris.

Translator's Notes on "Promoting the Narrow Ghost Lai Ge Qiang Taiqi".

Pio Ba

oja y Nessi was born in December 1872 in San Chebasti, Spain, close to France. He was a physician, but also a writer, and he was the same as Ibn Nezhi (Vi

ce

t Iba

ez). There are forty kinds of works, most of which are novels, and many of them are long, called masterpieces, and most of them belong to this category. His serial publication of "An Activist's Record" had long since been published in the thirteenth series.

Here's a retranslation from a collection of short stories translated by Kasai Townso in Japan. Vasco is the ancient Py, who was located between Spain and France

e

The people on both sides of the mountain range are regarded as "the mysteries of the world", which, as the author puts it, are "serious, silent, and unwilling to speak", but on the other hand they also love to talk nonsense, arrogant, pretty, hateful, and good at fantasy and dreaming; Baroha himself is endowed with the blood of this people.

Legoqiangtaiqi is a representative of the latter nature. After reading this one, it seems to be nothing more than ingenious funny. But the thought of such a celebrity in a deserted town under French rule, such a thing as life, can immediately feel the author's sad mood. I still remember that during the Sino-Japanese War (1894), I also saw idle celebrities in the countryside, coming back from the tea shop every night, and telling the women and children what General Liu Da said (Liu Yongfu put up the "night pot array" strange words, everyone listened to the eyebrows and danced, and they should really sigh with the people of Basike. But our speaker, though he may have added some branches, did not seem to be talking casually about himself, but he merely gave a lecture on the news sold in the tea-shop, which was better than Mr. Lygo's encouragement.

On the night of December 30, 1934, the translation was completed and recorded.

Translator's words

The author of the "Table" is Bantai Reyev (L.Pa

teleev), I don't know about his deeds. What I have seen only says that he was a street boy who was educated and became an excellent author, and a world-famous author. There are three kinds of his works translated in Germany: one is "Schkid" (an abbreviation of the Russian "Dostoevsky School"), also known as "The Republic of Stray Children", which was co-authored with G. Bjelych, and has more than 500 pages, and the other is "The Revenge of Capnauli", which I have not seen; One is this novella fairy tale, "Table".

Now it is based on Albert Einstein's (Ma

ia Ei

stei

Madame's German translation, published in Berlin in 1930. At the end of the volume, there were two pages of the editor's postscript, but because they were only spoken to German children, all Chinese readers of the age were aware of them, and the readers of this translation were probably the majority of people who had reached the age of age, so they were no longer translated at the end.

When I was translating, I was greatly helped by the Japanese translation of Kushiro Makimoto's "Golden Hour". In December of the previous year, it was published by Tokyo Rakulang Academy. In that book, it is not stated whether he is based on the original text; But looking at Fujimori Nariyoshi's words (see the inaugural issue of the Literary Review), it seems to be a retranslation of the German translation.

This is even more beneficial for me: I don't have to worry too much about myself, and I don't have to go through the dictionary too often. But there are also differences between the two books, and here they are all based on the German translation.

There is a translator's preface in the Golden Hours, which is aimed at Japan, but it is also very useful for Chinese readers. Translate it here:

"People say that there are as many sweets and children's books as Japan has, and I am afraid that there may not be more in the world. However, there are many scary bad snacks and small books, and as for the nourishing and beneficial ones, there are very few. Therefore, when ordinary people talk about good dim sum, they think of Western dim sum, and when they talk about good books, they think of foreign fairy tales.

However, almost all of the foreign fairy tales that Japan reads today are old works, such as faded rainbows and old clothes, and there is probably no new beauty or new pleasure. Why? Because most of them are the books that my brother and sister read when they were children, and even before their parents were born, they made very old works seventy or eighty years ago.

"Even if it's an old work, it's not beneficial to see it, and it doesn't have a taste, so of course you can't say it. However, if you really read it carefully, in the old works, there are only the 'beneficial' of the ancient times and the 'tasteful' of the ancient times. This is understood by comparing the previous nursery rhymes with the current nursery rhymes. In short, there are ancient feelings, feelings, emotions, and lives in the old works, but there are no people who observe the world of animals, plants, and humans with new eyes and ears, like the new children of modern times.

"So I think that for the sake of the new children, we must give him new works, so that they can continue to grow in a new world that is constantly changing.

In this sense, this book must be enjoyed by many people. Because this kind of content is new, very interesting, and very famous, I haven't introduced a book to Japan yet. However, this is a foreign work, so no matter how good it is, it always only highlights foreign characteristics. I hope that readers will read this book as if they had traveled to a foreign country, appreciating this feature, and on the other hand, with a broad range of knowledge and noble sentiments. I think that your knowledge will be wider and deeper, and your spirit will be tempered as a result. ”

There is also an Akita rain sparrow's trek, which doesn't matter what, so I won't translate it.

When translating into Chinese, I naturally think of China. More than ten years ago, Mr. Ye Shaojun's "Scarecrow" opened a way for Chinese fairy tales to create their own. Unexpectedly, not only did there be no transformation after that, but no one followed him, but he was desperately turning backwards. Looking at the newly printed children's books, it is still Sima Wengong knocking on the water tank, and it is still the tattoo on the backbone of King Yue Wumu; Even as for "immortals playing chess", "seven days in the mountains, a thousand years in the world"; There is also a vernacular translation of the story in "The Shadow of the Dragon's Whip". When these stories were born, not only were the children's parents not yet born, and even the great-grandparents were not born, then the "beneficial" and "tasteful" aspects can be imagined.

Before the translation, I did have a lot of ambitions. First, it is necessary to introduce such a new fairy tale into China for the reference of children's parents, teachers, educators, and fairy tale writers. Second, I don't want to use any difficult words, so I can read it for children around the age of 10. However, as soon as I started translating, I immediately hit a nail, and I knew too little about the child's words, which was not enough to reach the meaning of the original text, so I still translated it inconsistently. Now there is only half of the ambition left, but I don't know how.

Also, although it is just a fairy tale, it is often difficult to translate it.

For example, the translation "inadequate" means "incomplete" or "flawed". The Japanese translation omits it. Now, if it is translated as "bad", the tone is too heavy, so I have to fill it up like this, but I still feel that it is not relevant. Here the translation "cousin" is Olle, and the translation "head" is Ga

ove, I checked several dictionaries, but I couldn't find these two words. I can't think about it, so I have to use the first one according to Spanish, and the second one according to the Japanese translation, which is so perfunctory for the time being, and I hope that the reader will advise me, and I will have great luck in correcting it.
