Chapter Forty-Eight: The Imperial Court of Wealth Five Famous Kilns
After listening to Cai Jing's words, I was shocked, future generations all know the centralization of feudal society, I can't imagine that it has reached this level, 80% of the national taxes are all supplied to the central court, and only 20% of the local taxes are left, and what is left to the local area is only 20 percent, how to talk about construction and development in that place, no wonder the Beijing division is full of flowers everywhere, singing and dancing day and night, it turns out that it is a collection of national strength to raise a city, no wonder the descendants mentioned the Great Song Dynasty and said that Bianjing City, which is full of shops on the street, like Panlou South Street (Eagle Falcon Street, Specializing in the sale of rare birds and beasts), Chatang Lane (Tea Shop Street), Mahang North Street (Medicine Street), Hele Lou (Horse Market), Panlou East Street (Clothing Street), etc., there are many "ghost markets" open 24 hours a day, a large number of chain stores such as Caojia Congshi, Shijia Soup, Wanjia Steamed Bun Shop, Dingjia Vegetarian Tea Shop, Li Sijia North Restaurant, Jinjia South Restaurant, Zhengjia Oil Cake Shop, Haizhou Zhangjia Hu Cake Shop, Ma Deng Family Soup Shop, etc., and then look at the situation in other cities outside Beijing, it can be described as barren, Such a deformed form of economic development may have prevented the local government from becoming too powerful and affecting the authority of the central court and the imperial power.
It is undeniable that the Great Song Dynasty court is one of the most enthusiastic about making money, whether it is its monarch or ministers, they attach great importance to commerce and trade, because on one side is the heavy burden of the three redundant historical problems, and the so-called redundant soldiers and redundant officials are the foundation, to solve the problem of this official, it is bound to be unanimously opposed by the officials of the imperial court, after all, it is to move their interests and cheese, so they can only try all kinds of ways to invigorate the market on a large scale, and break all the policies and shackles that hinder the economy. Use all available resources and means to escort its economic development, only by continuously increasing income can we make up for the increasingly heavy economic burden of the imperial court, after all, the old man overhauled the palace is really real money.
However, the development of the market economy is not only a matter of taxation, due to the liberalization of relevant policies, the degree of mercantilism in the Great Song Dynasty at this time surpassed that of previous dynasties. In particular, the large-scale rise and development of the southern economy, especially the economic strength of the states, prefectures and counties along the Huainan East Road Canal has begun to take shape, and the cities along the Erzhejiang Road Canal are also developing very well. It was also the main tax place of the Great Song Dynasty.
Looking at the rest of the country, according to incomplete statistics, there are about 2,000 towns and more than 8,000 grass markets that have formed a preliminary estimate, and these regularly developed small markets are called markets in the north and rush in the south, which has also greatly boosted the economic prosperity of local states, prefectures and counties. In addition, due to the war, the land transportation in the northwest was intermittent, so foreign economic and cultural exchanges mainly relied on the southeast sea transportation. The "Five Famous Porcelain" of the imperial court is famous all over the world. Crossing the Indo-Ocean as far as Arabia and the east coast of Africa. With more than 300 kinds of import and export commodities, it became the most developed maritime country at that time, not only promoting world trade, but also transmitting the three major inventions of printing, gunpowder and compass in the Song Dynasty to foreign countries. Among them, the exported commodities are mainly silk fabrics, porcelain, metals, etc., and the imported commodities are mainly spices, medicinal herbs, ivory, jewelry, etc.
Seeing that I was thoughtful, Cai Jing asked with concern: Prince, did the old minister not understand just now. I immediately retracted my thoughts and replied with a smile: What Taishi Cai just said is deeply inspiring to this prince, very good, please continue. Cai Jing nodded slightly and continued: There is also the foreign trade of our dynasty, and the imperial court has set up cities (customs) in Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Mingzhou, Quanzhou, Mizhou (now Zhucheng, Shandong), and Xiuzhou (now Jiaxing, Zhejiang). When a merchant ship goes to sea, it must apply to the Municipal Shipping Department and have a guarantee before it can pass. Otherwise, the goods will be confiscated and the personnel will be punished. After a foreign merchant ship arrives at a Chinese port, it must immediately report to the municipal shipping agency, and the municipal shipping department will send personnel to board the ship for inspection. Generally, one-tenth of the goods are levied as an import tax, which is called "extraction". It also stipulates that certain goods are prohibited goods, all of which are purchased by market shipping institutions, and other goods are also bought part, which is collectively called "Bomai". The goods purchased by the extraction and Bo were all sent to the imperial court. Coupled with the current progress of our shipbuilding industry, the use of the compass has made sea transportation extremely convenient. There are more than 50 countries and regions that trade with our DPRK, among which the important ones are Goryeo, Japan, Cochin, Champang, Chenla (Cambodia), Bagan (Burma), Pak Ni (northern Kalimantan), Sriwijaya (southeastern Sumatra) and Dashi. It is precisely because of the development of the shipping industry in our DPRK, many foreign merchants and goods are hungry ships made in our DPRK, and at present, the large Chinese sea ships in our DPRK carry 10,000~12,000 stone (500~600 tons), and can also carry 500~600 people. Medium-sized sea ships carry 2000~4000 stone (100~200 tons) and carry 200~300 people. Due to the current changeable border situation, the fields between our dynasty and the Jin people and the Western Xia are often closed, so the trade volume is not very large, and sometimes it is not open regularly.
At present, the most representative handicraft industry of our dynasty is porcelain, and it is also the main commodity of export goods, and the five famous kilns of our dynasty are the representative masterpieces of this, first of all, the official kiln set up by the emperor of this dynasty himself, the official kiln porcelain is mainly plain, there is no gorgeous carving, and there is no bright color painting, and the most use of concave and convex straight ridges and string patterns for decoration. Its tire color iron black, glaze pink blue, "purple iron foot" adds simple and elegant beauty, "purple iron foot" refers to the iron content of celadon fetal material as high as 3.5%-5%, resulting in the edge of the product glaze thin place exposed gray or gray-purple, and the bottom end of the glaze scraping exposed tire is black-brown or dark gray. After the official kiln is fired into the finished product, it is mainly used for important occasions such as royal sacrifices, and does not flow into the folk circulation, and it has strict regulations, even if it is burned porcelain, the fragments are transported to the outer city to dig pits and bury deep underground.
The second is Ru porcelain, Ru kiln is mainly celadon, "glaze azure", "crab claw pattern", "fragrant gray tire", "sesame nail" and so on are an important basis for identifying Ru kiln. Among them, the crab claw pattern refers to the textured hairs of the glazed opening piece; "Sesame nails" is because the feet are supported by very small nails during firing, and then the Ru kiln porcelain is burned in the air. After the porcelain fired in this way is fired, there will be several points on the bottom glaze. Ru kiln porcelain carcass is generally thinner, the glaze layer is thicker, there is a jade-like texture, the glaze has a very fine opening piece, and the shape is more solemn and generous. Its craftsmanship is exquisite, so it is very precious.
Then there is the brother kiln, many porcelain in the firing process, in order to pursue the process is generally not allowed to have too many glazed cracks, but the brother kiln has brought the beauty of the "open piece" to the extreme, resulting in the "gold wire" This typical feature of the brother kiln: due to the different sizes of the open piece, the different shades of the shade, the exposed parts of the carcass due to oxidation or pollution degree are not the same, resulting in different colors of the opening piece. The glazed glaze of Ge kiln porcelain is iron black, called "iron wire", and the small opening grain is golden yellow, called "gold wire". The "gold wire" makes the calm glaze produce rhythmic beauty. Ge kiln porcelain is mainly plates, bowls, bottles, washing, etc.
Next is the Jun kiln, although the Jun kiln also belongs to celadon, it is not a porcelain dominated by cyan. The color of Jun kiln also has a variety of colors such as rose purple, sky blue, and moon white. The typical feature of Jun kiln is "earthworm mud pattern", its formation is due to the thick and viscous glaze of Jun porcelain, so when cooling, some of the glaze filled between the open and non-open pieces of the place, will form like the rain after the sunny, the earthworm crawling over the wetland.
The last is the kiln, the kiln can be prominent in the world, on the one hand, because the tone belongs to the warm white, the thin and lubricated glaze white is slightly yellow, giving people a moist and quiet beauty, on the other hand, because of its good use of printing, carving, scratching and other decorative techniques, the white porcelain from the plain white decoration to a new stage. The shape of the kiln is most common in plates and bowls. The Ding kiln is mainly a kiln for the court to fire imperial porcelain, and it is also the only kiln among the five major kilns to burn white porcelain.
In addition, there is the Xinping official kiln located on Jiangnan Road, and the bottom book of tribute porcelain is "Jingde Year System". Famous for white porcelain, known as "white as jade, bright as mirror, thin as paper, sound like chime", porcelain quality is excellent, light shape, decoration is diverse. In terms of decoration, there are blue and white, glaze red, ancient color, pastel, bucket color, new color, underglaze color, blue and white exquisite, etc., especially blue and white, pastel products are the bulk of the color glaze. There are many varieties of glaze, including blue, blue, red, yellow, black and so on. Its innovation is to scratch with a knife carving, embroidery with acupuncture, printing with plate printing, and cone flower with cone tip chiseled into a pattern, pile up with a pen dipped in powder to pile into a convex, and then apply white glaze.
Porcelain has become an important item exported to foreign countries in our dynasty, and a large amount of silver is exchanged for the imperial court every year, and it is also deeply favored by the royal family, gentry and magnates.
The Song Dynasty attached great importance to the development of overseas trade, and regarded overseas trade as a major event for the benefit of the country and the people. In the early years, Song Shenzong said: The southeast is a big country, and foreign merchants also live in it. If Qian (referring to the Wu Yue regime) and Liu (referring to the Han regime) stole from Zhejiang and Guangzhou, and those who were rich on the inside and resisted China (referring to the five dynasties of the regime in the Central Plains) on the outside, they were also obtained by the Langhai merchants. Therefore, the monarchs of the Great Song Dynasty actively promoted economic diplomacy in order to "reap huge profits and make foreign vassals spread over China". During the Song Dynasty, China's first and the world's first foreign trade law, the Navigation Regulations, was born 571 years earlier than the Navigation Regulations, the first act promulgated by Britain in 1651 to protect the monopoly of British maritime trade.
At this time, from the imperial court to local governments at all levels, they were committed to creating a good investment environment, formulating laws and policies to attract foreign businessmen and protect their legitimate rights and interests, not only reducing taxes, but also setting up various incentives, giving clothing, gifts, etc.; When foreign businessmen come to China or leave, city officials also have to set up banquets to entertain them. In addition, a professional investment promotion team has been set up to attract overseas investment with trading merchant ships, and for those with outstanding achievements, they can directly attract merchants to be awarded official positions. In this way, the investment promotion is really unimaginable in all dynasties, no wonder the Great Song Dynasty has money that has a certain reason, under the education of the imperial court, almost all the people are doing business and engaging in trade, and the economy will develop naturally in such an atmosphere.
In the face of the professional money-making government, although the land trade route was blocked by the enemy, it still could not stop the enthusiasm of the imperial court to make money, and used the developed shipbuilding industry to directly transport many commodities of the Great Song Dynasty to overseas through the sea voyage trade, and by the way, brought local products, rare species and a large amount of gold and silver from all over the world into the territory of the Great Song Dynasty.
